Because it's a decent game, not amazing, but fine for what it is.
It just got swept up in the whole lootbox/microtransaction controversy of last year, despite them being pretty negligible part of the game and not forced like Battlefront.
Also ecelebs who hate AC like Dunkey and Yahtzee decided to dunk on it, so retards ended up parroting their dumb opinions.
Because it is the most decent Assred game recently made, that is, it's not a great game, it's just okay, which is something weird for assred fans because they are used to mediocrity
Because it features very many black people in ancient Europe, like God intended.
Because it's pure kino. It's like The Witcher 3, but the gameplay and quest design isn't shit.
>but the gameplay and quest design isn't shit.
That's right. It's cancer
It's quite literally better than The Witcher 3 and BoTW
>It's like The Witcher 3, but the gameplay and quest design isn't shit.
Too bad it's missing the most important parts: lovable characters and good writing.
Please fuck off. Witcher 3 is GOTY. Asscreed odyssey is ubishit grindfest #234332
Kassandra is lovable, though.
Ah, I see you haven't played the game. The combat is better, the characters are better (even though they suck in both games), the world is better, not every quest is the same. I get it, you really like medieval stuff and want to live in a forest and I won't judge you - I still think ACO is better
>the gameplay and quest design isn't shit.
Every quest is "go here and free this person/loot this piece of paper" to some fort with the same copypasted guards walking around. The quest will levels higher than you so to level up you need to go to some copypasted fort or cave and loot 3 chests, kill 3 guards, burn 3 supplies no less than 100 times. Either that or you fight some bullet sponge animal. The combat is janked 2 button spam with fucked up dodging. Witcher has a million different types of quests. Fuck off shill, you have shit taste. There's a special type of autist that enjoys infinite grinding, and that is you
I would say Steam users rate games according to how functional they are. If the product works fine, and there aren't any major issues with it, games will generally get very positve reviews, regardless of their actual quality. Don't take Steam reviews as an actual quality indicator of the game. It's literally just a thumbs up/thumbs down system.
Because there's a billion bear-asses to collect in every region
imagine actually being this person
why Yea Forumsirgins love grind and farming so much?
I also remember people liking the metal gear zombie game
it's like people here can only enjoy mindless tasks that makes them feel like they are building or getting better at something except that it's only a stupid algorithm made to make them waste as much time and money as possible.
Becasue it's a good game.
>Watching the GDC talk about the way Ubisoft tackled developing AC as a franchise.
>The only reason the Juno situation happened the way it did was because they didn't want to spend time in a game dealing with something only a small amount of the playerbase cares about.
I honestly can't believe they said that as the reasoning. That's a Capcom-level excuse.
what's the juno situation?
this
Fridge dyke
>Every quest is "go here and free this person/loot this piece of paper"
There's a reason for that. Remember Far Cry 2? Clint Hocking's masterpiece? Every single quest in that game was either kill a dude or steal a thing. There were not real set pieces. Just go to this location and complete the task. That is what game design should be.
So they build up Juno as this big bad for multiple games starting from around either Brotherhood or Revelations. In 3 the entire main conflict in modern day is that saving humanity means letting Juno out which Desmond obviously did otherwise the new games wouldn't have happened, Liberation glossed over it from what I remember, in BF it's that the First Civ people can take over people's bodies and because her husband was killed before she could take over a body she's floating around in "The Cloud™", in Rogue she's still there, in Unity she's still there, and then I'm not entirely sure what's going on around Syndicate but I seem to recall reading she was close to getting a body or something? Around Origins or Odyssey they decided that instead of actually solving this problem in a modern day segment during the game they'd rather focus on Desmond's father, Shaun, Rebecca, Bishop, and so on. Instead they would solve the Juno problem they've left open now by killing Juno in a comic off to the side. I'm not even entirely sure if this even is referenced in side content during Odyssey either.
You literal ubisoft employee shills have no clue what makes good game design
>That is what game design should be.
since we're not robots we need also some writing and sense of accomplishment going beyond points and currency but that would actually require people that gave a shit about their product and we know AAA industry only cares about microtransactions and simple mechanics for simple minds
I have over 100 hours in it, it's pretty fun.
Not very deep, but it's consistently entertaining.
It has adventure mode instead of having shitty quest markers it can just describe the objectives location then you can look yourself for that it's a 10/10 for me
Ubisoft's handling of the AC story is fucking terrible. They should have dropped the modern day a long time ago since they apparently only care about making each game "accessible" to everyone. So it's impossible to make a good over-arching plot.
The Layla sections in both Origins and Odyssey are visibly lower budget than the rest of the game - shitty models, animations, voice acting. Just goes to show how little of a shit they give about it. It's such a shame too, because the Desmond games were hype as fuck in this regard.
It just tells you to go to some spot on the map then the bird will find the thing for you it's hardly that interesting
are the dumb mechanics of Origins still there?
I'm talking about the "your knife is still too much of a noob to backstab this high level sleeping soldier"?
It's great but I like all AC games
Witcher 3 is literally the same except you sometimes follow a red line while holding a button. Don't even try to make it out to be anything more than that.
Because despite the heightened sense of superiority, PC gamers are just as big of plebs as console gamers.
The insane thing is that in the same talk they put incredible emphasis on the fact that modern day has to be prevalent and that the Animus always has to be a focal point in some manner. They want modern day to exist but at the same time they want to pick and choose what's actually important. It's just insane how they can be so serious about some things but as soon as it becomes inconvenient they just stop caring.
If you feel like watching the talk then here:
youtube.com
The Juno thing is mentioned in the Q&A near the end, they speak about their AC Bible roughly 20 or so minutes in where they have diagrams about how all games should be structured.
One of the worst takeways I got from it was that they don't understand why Unity was actually complained about. They thought they were adding too much meaningless side content (Which was a fair complaint) rather than it also being incredibly buggy (Like the one glitch where a character Arno was speaking to had no face they had the excuse that "This was only on one graphics card!"), Arno being a boring main character that felt like a discount Ezio, the story being one of the most boring in the entire series, and the game being more about an internal Templar dispute rather than anything historically intertwined. They also pretend Rogue never happened for some reason, it wasn't in the timeline unless I missed it while I was watching. They seem to treat it like Liberation rather than a mainline.
>people on Yea Forums play ass creed in 2019
fucking LOL
PC gamers are retarded, who would've thought...
>people on Yea Forums play
HOLY FUCK LMAO
u mad bro?
your taste is shit, NPC faggot
Witcher 3 has interesting quests, interesting stories, meaningful dialogue options. Ass creed doesn't. It clearly tries to copy witcher but the quests are boring shit with mandatory ubishit fortresses everywhere
>He likes thinly veiled forced grinding
kys yourself my man
its the height of asscreed
imagine actually playing as alexios
If only she actually looked like that
Last one I played was Origins so I might be misremembering, but I think the noob knife problem you mention wasn't there but I'm sure it is on Odyssey
Considering Kass is actually canon due to both the novel and the AMA it doesn't really make sense to pick Alexios outside of messing around.
>Playing SJW: The Character
Decent game, fun characters and world.
her face is really hot in-game, though
yikes
I played both and the Alexios voice actor is 100x times better than Kassandra. He is also a better protag overall
Unlike the extremely refined tastes of console gamers...
He also had the better looking versions of the armor from what I've seen and he's more believable in the setting. I'd like for him to be the canon protag or for them to have pulled another Evie/Jacob rather than what they actually did do.
If I wanted The Witcher 3 I would go play it why does modern ass creed need to be like other games
>why does modern ass creed need to be like other games
Because Unity was a massive mistake in Ubisoft's eyes and they panicked thinking they needed to reinvent the wheel to keep things fresh. Again, the GDC conference goes into this, their logic is that AC was becoming stale and that everything they were doing was wrong (Even the gameplay improvements Unity brought to the table) so they needed to essentially redo almost everything with Unity's engine being the base of everything because they spent so much time on it.
It's really dumb because it's starting to lose its identity thanks to the two new games, the gameplay is barely like the older ones and they're starting to get more lazy with their seriousness towards historical accuracy (I mean hell, these are the guys that cut out the crossbow from Altair because it wouldn't make sense historically but then add hundreds of hulking statues of random soldiers and gods all over Greece which never existed or were way smaller). Tthe worst part is that they neutered stealth to an extent due to the level scaling system when Unity only strengthened the stealth system. It's like Unity is the focal point of how they lost their way, they use it as an example for what not to do but at the same time the gameplay of it is exactly what they need to be looking at and improving, not turning into a action RPG.
>Because of backlash instead of building and improving on foundations they scrap everything they made well
man I sure love corporate greed on my vidya
No idea, I uninstalled Origins immediately when I backstabbed a guy and he didn't die because my 'level wasn't high enough'. Haven't played this shit either, fuck the forced rpg shit grind.
It gets even crazier because in the talk itself the guy even says some of the positives they got for the game were the increased stealth capabilities and freedom they gave players. It's not like this is random people who still to this day believe Unity is a bad game because of launch glitches, these are the people making the games themselves. It's fine to have a reality check with Unity but to just throw everything but the engine and the up/down parkour away because you had a mistake due to a bunch of issues is just so profoundly stupid.
>crap "game" is like another crap "game"
>forces you to fight multiple enemies constantly
>no way animation cancel or counter/dodge out of attacks
My biggest gripe. They put you in bamham situations constantly but don't give you the flexibility to deal with it. You either get poked to death mid-attack or spend the whole fight kiting enemies into a line and attacking once per minute to avoid being ganked
>people on Yea Forums
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It, along with all other Ubisoft open world games, are open world games for the sake of being open world games. The worlds are absolutely abysmal with no life in them. It is because of this that their other flaws are heightened.
If you have an open world then you have to make getting from point A to B worth the trip. In Ubisoft open world games you just travel from section to section doing stupid fetch quests.
Games like Witcher 3, Dying Light, and Fallout, for all their faults, have something you may find interesting during your travels. However, with Ubisoft open world games you always know you what is going to be in the world after the first few hours. They fill the world up with checklists, grinding, and resource gathering to mask the fact that the whole experience is shallow. They should honestly just go back to making linear games.
it's fun
and Kassandra a cute
>Why is the steam rating so high?
Because it's a good game, user.
How's Origins?
Worth a buy or a pirate? I used to love AC since I'm one of the few who actually cares about the modern world and how they handle it left me disappointed.
theres a new ability where you can teleport back stab someone then bounce to another 4 targets doing insane dmg.
Imagine being this fucking retarded
people are so blind to obvious bait these days, good work user. anger is a gift.
Cause its actually good
FAGGOT
I mean, are they wrong? the vast majority of people just like asscreed as Historical city action game simulator, they don't give a shit about the actual first civ/future/assassin templar shit
Juno’s death isn’t referenced. Essentially swept under the carpet tier forgotten kek
I liked Oddyssey, i really did.
But the finale being 'buy the dlc' soured me on the entire experience. Honestly worse than the text box at the end of ME3
Because it's great.
First DLC is meh, but the second DLC is worth it.
Fuck that i want an actual finale of any game i buy to be on disc. Dlc should always be supplementary
Ok Yea Forums you drove me to pirate another AC game after I said I was done for good with this run to the ground series when I finished Origins. Fuck you if it's worse than that.
>Kassandra's facial animations are TOP NOTCH during prologue
>mediocre for the rest of the game
fucking bait and switch
Was it ever cracked?
Of course it did, a long time ago.
This. Its loaded with content may I add. I racked up 70 hours and just finished the story, I still have the two new dlcs to do on top of that. Its a good game, dont let the AC label scare you off.
It's pretty good. First AC game I ever paid for. Shouldn't even be associated to that shitty franchise.
Forgot it existed, will torrent later tonight
Ubisoft saw the success of Witcher 3 and thought
>Maybe we should try a bit harder to get the reception we want
And Odyssey was born, effectively killing AC as it used to be, stone cold.
Isn't it just more of Origins' gameplay?
I can't stop playing this fucking thing. And I couldn't finish Witcher 3, because it was boring.
It's a pretty big improvement from Origins.
I mean two of the three insanely long main questlines are all tied up I don't understand why you would get mad about a good 20+ hours of content added in as DLC for the final atlantis story.
Well, yes, NOW. But not when modern day was actually good. People were hype as fuck for the 2012 end of the world prophecy, learning more about the Isu, seeing Desmond become an assassin in the modern day, etc
But with how shit the modern day has become, obviously no one cares anymore.
The gameplay loop is the same, but the game is way more RPG heavy. The game has more dialog options that change the story and you cant choose all skill trees and stay effective in combat like in origins.
it seems a lot like origins at first glance, but it's a lot more arcadey and has lots of active abilities whereas Origins really only had overpower
>quest design isn't shit
Are you for real, nigga? Same missions over and over to capture some fucking lands. Witcher had unique hunts with dialogues and lore! Fuck you, ubicuck!
I'd say that it is kind of a knockoff Witcher 3 in ancient Greece. The historical stuff is pretty good, but its not quite on the level in almost every regard except combat. They improved from Witcher 3's combat, which should at least be expected by a game to come out after. They have hindsight to see what worked and what didn't.
should i pirate this or origins first? those games dip below 30 fps on my pc so skipped them both.
People have shit taste.
>writing
>more important than gameplay
ok
Can't pirate this my friend.
I was loving this game
then an update where Equipment Ability Levels got increases broke shit and I could not upgrade the levels of any of my abilities.
why do you plan on pirating them if you know your pc can't play them??
>every single level your previous gear becomes garbage and you replace it instantly
It can. I'm used to locked 60 though and this game's shit engine constantly runs around 30-40. But i'm willing to look past that if the game is good.
I tried playing this game but could barely stomach it for more than a few minutes. There are so many small things to do and objects on the screen that it just gives me a headache and overwhelms me.
Just upgrade your shit already instead of playing 10 year old games and indie crap.
Oh ok. In that case get Origins first and if you like it play Odyssey. Can't miss out on that Egypt setting.
>Yea Forums unironically enjoy these types of games now
The witcher 3 was a mistake, it stealth made cancer aaa game mechanics accepted just because of how polished it was.
>Singleplayer franchise
>Yearly installments
>All but 3 of them play exactly the same with the same garbage mission design that fail to meaningfully use the mechanics
>Public opinion has begun to turn
>Most people are disgusted by how samey all the games are
>Even turbo normies are noticing how the missions are intentionally grindy to coerce you into buying microtransactions
>Yea Forums now loves Assassin's Creed
You are actually retarded. The normies love it, the whole fucking premise of this thread is that it's rated highly on Steam. It also sold better than Origins which ubisoft was satisfied with. If it was so disliked, It wouldn't be getting constant massive expansions like it still is.
Oops, sorry, correcting myself.
>Can't pirate that without downloading a botnet my friend
Tell me what "interesting" you can find in Dying Light's world. Dying Light is literally just the ubisoft formula copied. In fact, that is EXACTLY what Witcher 3 is, down to the literal question marks marking "points of interests" - exactly like in a Ubi game.
Witcher 3 has actually got the most static open world I've played yet, you can't even attack random npc's for gods sake.
Yeah Yea Forums has gone turbo contrarian, a mixture of wanting the next TOR, post-election newfags and general tryhards who think hating everything is "Yea Forums culture"
Its worth a buy for like 20 bucks max id say
it's good, the virtual tourism aspect is probably the best in the series yet, Alexandria is incredible as is the pyramids. Great atmosphere. The story is so-so. The modern day is... best ignored, honestly. It's there, but it's just lame and not really that interesting anymore. Gameplay is okay. Better than before, for sure.
>stop enjoying games
If the gameplay wasn't awful we wouldn't need to look at the writing, too bad it's the same shit as all the others
Didnt dying light have dungeons, hideouts, people to save, vans to break into etc? Also Nightime was very dangerous
been a long time since I played it
bots
Origins was better than odyssey
Remember when everyone freaked out about Kassandra getting put in her rightful place in that one DLC and having a baby put in her? Bunch of incels bitching about their strong female waifu that would never actually exist.
no. you most likely will just do very little damage. however, i specced into assassin damage and I had almost no issues with assassinating characters 10+ levels above me
Because it's Witcher 3 with more involving combat. It's literally normie heaven. Disgusting game.
>ubishit skinnerbox "open world" tower climbing 5 mission types checklist rpg simulator #21532515
>Because it's Witcher 3 with more involving combat
I wish
be warned though, I couldn't find a single torrent with the DLC or the patches that balanced the SIGNIFICANTLY broken skill tree.
It's only $30 for base game on uplay right now and $40 with the dlc, and I'm currently debating whether to buy it or pirate it, myself.
The version of the game on torrents has some bad sailing bugs, minor combat things and a really bad skill tree with ranged being incredibly overtuned.
you can get it dirt cheap from this russian site that sells cracked uplay accounts
Then you got your wish. It's the same dogshit 50+ hour long braindead errand boy simulator with level scaled loot but it has several weapon types, active abilities and enemies that fight back.
No unfortunately it is not, the quests are all dogshit, the story is also dogshit.
Obviously. So?
So it is not witcher 3 you retard
But why? What you said is also true for witcher 3
I knew you'd say this, fuck off
>act like a retard
>I knew you'd call me a retard :)
Well, don't act like one next time.
Nah, a scaling enemy level RPG might as well not be an RPG at all. At least AC Origins had the balls to a straight up RPG.
But to be fair, AC's real problems are that Ubisoft don't understand how to create fun missions. They think tower climbing and following NPCs is enough to carry a 30 hour game.
Finally, Assassin's Creed as a franchise should just reboot, or better yet, just give it to a competent developer who can write a story that isn't shit and create a good mission every once in awhile.
look at this baiting groid
if you are latent homosexual and prefer men
The optional dialogue to bitterly tell your baby-daddy "I only did this to secure the bloodline" is pretty kek worthy when you consider all those people who were probably fuming.
