touchscreen is indeed a gimmick and only the earlier games in the console's lifespan forced it or relied heavily on it, later on devs realized the second screen was all anyone cared about and games benefited a lot from it, made dealing with tiny ass screen resolutions a lot easier since you had essentially double the space to put UI shit on

I recall in 2005 all the kids at my school born 1995 and 1996-1997 were playing games from Pokemon's third gen. Then when the fourth gen began in 2007, all of them had moved on from Pokemon, with the exception of my uncool self. I always assumed the only other people playing Diamond and Pearl were uberzoomers born in like 2000
