If you could die during glory kills then it upends the entire flow of combat and renders them useless anyways (as most people only bother with them on low health). Would you prefer to have no glory kills (and have to pick up health off random enemies/hidden spots in the map) or just regenerating health like a shitty brown cover shooter that they desperately steered the game away from being?

i played the first nudoom on the hardest difficulty and it was too slow and easy. i really wish doomguy moved faster. i know he didn't really move at Ranger speed originally but the new arena-style layout makes it so boring when you can't go fast. i even played with a controller to try to handicap myself and make it more fun but it was still too easy considering i don't have retard thumbs like most of the people here. the new movement options look cool but his base movespeed still looks really slow

just to add to previous posts. helmet is from older designs while whole body is from Doom Eternal. Quake Champions doomslayer classic skin has the same helmet as does figure you posted. add marks, add scratches etc and make curviture at the part of the helmet where lower jaw is.
The worst part about SS3's melee animations was how jarring the sudden screen movement was, especially with the small spider-like enemies. I don't suffer from motion sickness but god damn if it wasn't disorienting

That system runs even without glory kills. Enemies are always pacing themselves so you don't get overwhelmed
i like the contrast. it was just a matter of time when they introduced heavenly side. before that it was just hell/demonic powers and biomechanical mixed with that. and believe me this is coming from a guy who had doom1 on a floppy diskettes.
They were actually very risky on higher difficulties, so I only ever used them if there was only one or two enemies left in a fight. The other enemies aren't on pause as the glory kill happens, so any projectiles heading your way or imps that were near you might hit you when the animation is done. On nightmare, it's basically a 50/50 chance of actually ending up with a net negative of HP after a kill for this reason. And about 1/5 times, you'll actually take enough damage to die because you stopped to do a glory kill. Not worth it and the glory kills are merely a crutch for casuals who play on easy.

Not that user, but I literally opened the game just now to test this and the enemies do keep moving and firing at you. You get iframes, but as he said, the enemies are not on pause and you can get hit by projectiles that were fired DURING the kill. That slide says nothing about pausing the other enemies as the animation plays.

If you're referring to the "combat pause" part, you're still wrong. All this means is that melee enemies like imps won't hit you while the animation plays because it could cause clipping and bugs. They will MOVE towards you though and hit you as the animation ends, without you having a way to avoid it.

If you're stuck in a multi-wave arena, most ammo pick-ups are going to be from glory kills. It's not like classic Doom where the game balances its enemy placements/waves with environmental placements of ammo/health in mind. Not to mention that unless you're wasting more ammo by not killing off an enemy with a glory kill than if you use one. If you get an enemy to glow yellow (meaning they're ready for a glory kill) and you don't do the glory kill, you have to keep shooting them until they die. It's an extra inefficiency.

There has been no mention of invasions since E3. It's not even mentioned on the Steam page.
Regular glory kills don't even give ammo. Those are chainsaw kills, and I almost never have to use the chainsaw after a few ammo upgrades. I do think the ammo capacity should be larger right from the get-go, but you can basically stop using the chainsaw completely around 1/3 of the way through the game if you invest into ammo capacity.
There aren't any hitscan attacks in the game aside from the shotgunner, so you can still avoid those fireballs as the enemies re-target you.
Avoid them how? Pick a random movement key and wish upon a star or do you play with fucking 200 fov?

They actually changed some of that in patches. Can't say for sure about the glory kills, but right after that he talks about target leading and enemies missing on purpose if you're moving. This is definitely no longer the case, as all enemies with projectile attacks will lead you and even follow the arc of your jump in order to land accurate shots. It's quite possible the way glory kills work has also changed in patches.
If he's one of multiple enemy types you can invade as that means he's not the invader exclusive character, just a tough enemy type you idiot. Go watch the quakecon footage.

Why do people insist on shitposting about games they haven't played? The super shotgun can't even be upgraded using the upgrade drones. As soon as you find it it deals the maximum amount of damage per shot that it can deal.
None of the weapon upgrades are damage modifiers. They all add extra functionality to the gun, exactly the way weapon upgrades should be. Funnily enough, the SS is the only weapon that doesn't have these upgrades, so you're full of shit.

The Bethesda article was from December. Invasion mode isn't mentioned anywhere after the Battlemode reveal. Battlemode itself follows the same format as Invasions did at Quakecon, there is no reason to believe they're making it to the final game.

Except for the fact that the alternate fire modes are all limited in one way or another. They have cooldowns, spend a lot of ammo, limit or completely disable mobility, take time to activate, etc. The only weapon whose primary fire mod I practically ignored was the regular shotgun after I got the SS. It remained useful for the grenade launcher only, but I still used the other weapons' primary fire mode more than the alternate fire. I'm not gonna complain about the upgrades being powerful, that's what I want from them, and there are obvious trade-offs to using them.

When saving manking was no long convinient for angels, they told Doomguy to fuck off.
After Doomguy refused and waged war on now both angels and demons, angels ascended a demon champion to be doomguy's equal and to kill him.

All Doom games always portrayed hell itself as another dimension, in Nu-Doom there is even the skeleton remains of some giant titan like it's another universe with it's own fauna system and physics. Doom 3 literally implies the hell is just another dimension and it's energy turns people into undead.

Biblical hell is a plane of existence where bad people go, you can't access it with a portal machine, dying is the only way of reaching it. Your soul goes to hell, not your body, your body is merely a vessel that stays on earth and rots away when you go to hell, anybody who read the bible knows this.
Doom 1 and 2 are obviously just a metal guy's wet dream, it has no story, it's just satanic for the sake of being satanic, but Doom 3 is actually science fiction.

I'm not a fan of the "locked in arena until demons are dead" design, but between each of the arenas there's always a bunch of ammo to find, not to mention ammo pickups around the arena itself. You could temporarily run out of ammo for a specific weapon and be forced to used the rest of your arsenal, but you have to be really terrible at this game to struggle with ammo in general. Enemies drop some ammo when you're running low, and we're talking normal kills, not glory kills.
Why can't you just think of "heaven" as yet another dimension and "angels" as creatures from said dimension? If you were willing to accept all the demonic, hellish shit that is obviously directly inspired by biblical hell and demons as "another dimension", why can't you do the same for heavenly, angelic forces?
What I was trying to say is that atheists would claim hell is just a place that has always existed and humans interacting with it in the past is why religion and myths allude to it. Whereas theists would claim hell is the proof that God is real since it's where sinners are sent.
Adding heaven actually makes it legitimately religious.

It's a high risk, high reward mechanic on UV and higher. Hardly bad design. It may save you when you see death is imminent if you DON'T use it, and it's usually not worth it if you're still doing fine on HP and armor.

doom 3 kinda sucked because of that claustrophobic level design and encounters, the gameplay itself is identical to quake more or less and it fucking sucks that doom 4 intentionally did away with all that in favour of modern console shit

they are still active and attack you but the priorities change for some enemies, for example an imp will still target and throw a fireball while you are in invincible animation state which can lead to eating a fireball as soon as it ends or being re positioned close to a zombie which will instantly slap you which can be insta-kill on nightmare, it's straight up bad game design and goes against the whole point of the system in the first place

With the exception of 2 demons, the design of the bestiary was absolute dogshit. Doom 3 only excelled in the envrioments. UAC's Sci Fi cultist science labs were fucking cool. They looked like futuristic ritual altars.

it is very obviously balance around them not only in terms of health/armour/ammo drops but the damage and stagger too even if you purposefully avoid doing glory kills like you pretty much have to on nightmare it's still encouraged at ever step, there is no denying it
DOOM4^H combat was half Doom, half Quake Deathmatch, all awesome. the two-way portals made the arenas literal Pac-Man boards, harkening back to Wolf3D/Doom level design. it's fun as shit especially on Ultra-Nightmare Arcade, and I just hope they don't fuck it up next time and actually improve on the base game. I do wish it was PC exclusive so they could design it around that instead of sacrificing potential vision for console babbies but whatever, for a modern AAA DOOM what the fuck do you expect.
I honestly enjoy both, but my favourite Doom is probably the third. Just liked the atmosphere a lot, even though the nu-Doom is a total banger as well.

on Ultra-Nightmare Arcade I use glory kills with the +distance +speed runes basically for mobility, occasional fight pacing, and occasional small health boost. I'm in top 100 on PC on the first and second levels. shit is kino as fuck. anyone who doesn't like glory kills played on too easy of a difficulty and/or is a turbosperg who is so used to QTE gameplay despite pretending to be teh hardcorez gaemer that they're literally incapable of seeing the GK outline without immediately pressing melee every single time

Are “tha graphiccs” to blame? Like the game looks phenomenal and runs at a solid 60 on consoles but I was weirded out when I first heard about snapmap monster limits. It made me wary of what other corners they have to cut for gameplay because consoles are insanely substandard performance wise, mainly so now.
The aesthetic, music, the “feel of being the Doom Slayer” is fun for a few hours but that novelty doesn’t last the whole game.

it lasted the whole game for me because when you get to the Hell levels you're just starting to get fatigued by the game and then suddenly it's DOOM again. the final boss was kind of underwhelming but it came RIGHT as I was actually getting bored with the game for real (at release before Arcade Mode). it's a really good game, solid 8/10 minimum but personal 10/10 for me despite it's glaring flaws (once they added the centered viewmodel option). runes are cool but it's bullshit that there's no "all runes" mode, hell they should just be permanent upgrades anyways, Doom Slayer feels really good to control but once you get the air control rune it feels amazing, and it sucks shit to give up that rune slot to something else
I think I liked DOOM4^H so much because it exceeded my extremely low expectations in so many ways, while feeling like DOOM to me while still starting to flesh out a new identity for the modern iteration of the franchise.
when I want to play DOOM I play fucking DOOM, a game like DOOM will never get made again and that's ok, there's infinite fan content to discover to this day. I dont expect nudoom to scratch that exact itch, in a modern AAA game ffs

Idk what that means. First foray into hell was where it peaked for me and then sort of stayed there: The combat didn’t get anymore interesting beyond that point, and the “exploration” segments seemed digital and ‘by the numbers’; it made combat and encounters feel more like a gameplay ‘switch’ as opposed to part of the level.
There’s just something that feels off and weird with NuDoom: I love Doom, I rediscovered how awesome Quake was, I’m a small Painkiller fan, by all accounts I should love this game.

it has been bad and once a week or so I get a game with unplayable lag out of nowhere but it's generally fine and plays fine. it's the best worst game of all time imo, I love playing it and I love what they did with the characters and lore, but the menus, f2p systems, constant progression resetting and occasional netcode issues hold it back. deathmatch is addictive as shit though it's too bad i think i'm the only one on this board who genuinely enjoys it and wishes it was better

Out of the SS games I've played, I'd recommend First and Second Encounter. SS3 isn't as strong as the two I listed, but it's not bad either. If you want more SS then you can move onto it afterwards.
I've only played Painkiller: Black Edition and to be honest, I'm not really a fan. But you seem to enjoy more arena-based combat (which makes up most of Painkiller) so you might enjoy it more than I did.
