So, in true retard game journalist fashion, they took the word "fluid" and the AudioVox implant then turned it into "CYBERPUNK LEAD DEVELOPER PROMISES GENDERFLUID AND TRANSGENDER CHARACTER CREATION OPTIONS." Queue an additional spergout.

I think this game will still be decent, but I would be lying if I said the game didn’t look a million times better a couple years ago. Regardless of if the game book has anything to do with it, the larger genre of cyberpunk has tons to do with trannies/sex changes/etc. Also it just makes sense (the one time trannies are being included in a world where they actually make sense to exist in). You think if technology existed where you could easily swap genders/appearance, people wouldn't be all over that shit? So many novels on the genre mention sex changes casually, include transgender characters, or have them as background noise (pretty common for cyberpunk novels to mention seeing a prostitute or club person of 'ambiguous gender').

Off the top of my head I can name quite a few books that include it.

I don't think my expectations were too high in that regard, because unlocking more homes has been a staple of the GTA series and open world RPGs like Elder Scrolls and Fallout for decades now. It's not something that takes a lot of resources to design either so it just seems like a weird choice that would be befitting of a more linear, narrative-heavy game.

One of the big draws of the original rpg was that your character could be associated with a larger entity and had social skills related to that entity. Not social skills like just being able to talk to girls, but soft-power beyond physical violence that could affect their capabilities.
One good example is with Corps, they had Resources, which affected how many company resources they could draw on. This could be used to obtain information, experimental tech or just man-power for jobs.
But a lot of how 2077 seems to be going suggests that the role and social role the player plays will always be that of a lone, independent merc.

The original E3 2018 demo had the player choose which childhood hero they looked up to instead of which background they came from.
While you can see which heroes match up with which backgrounds (Keanu to Street, Blackhand to Nomad, Arasaka to Corp), the weird thing is that there's the possibility that this change was done because, at one point in time, there was a plan for the player to have whoever they chose as hero to be their digital mentor. But, now that they've went all-in with Keanu, they might have decided to scrap that and instead turn that option into a background-option

I know a lot of people who need a hoard-storage area with customization opportunities (sorting your shit into pleasant piles like money in a bathtub) otherwise the game means nothing to them. It's this Skyrim and Fallout behavior; I suppose they did it in Witcher 3 too although they didn't actually get a house until a year after the game.

Well, the main thing with Deus Ex is that you exist as an independent agent unconstrained by normal restrictions of cops.
In Mankind Divided, you get to walk into the no-aug zone despite being an aug cause you're a super-special cop.
I specifically would like a game where the powers AND limitations of a class are impressed upon the player.
In the case 2077, what I fear is that the choice to have the player be a solo was made more for player freedom (in the granular sense) than for storytelling purposes

to be honest expecting furniture customization or all the classes in the game was a quite unrealistic, although having a couple of houses to purchase would not be so hard to do/implement.

I'll watch any Twitch streams of the game and decide if I want to give the game a go. I'm sure there will be streamers who will get early access to the game to hype it up. If it looks interesting at all I'll pirate it and go from there. Always pirate a game prior to making a purchase decision. Method has worked out great.

I mean this was supposed to be one of the most intricately designed games ever and giving absolute control to the player to define their role in the world. Now they're cutting features, casting Hollywood actors and just dumbing it down for 12 year olds to be interested just because John Wick is in it. There's objectively less that a player can do in the game than what they told us originally. And it sucks knowing that despite all that they backtracked on, this shit is still going to sell millions and be considered GOTY by every journalist imaginable, when the game it was supposed to be would have been better.

In the first one, you’re pretty limited in a story sense since you’re a UNESCO agent. HR also had the player act in a pretty limited role as a corporate security detail, but they get more freedom since they’re not really expected to handle any actual corporate responsibility as they’re a one man army and not part of a larger sub division.
MD is the one that basically bends all in-universe rules to let the player go anywhere and break in-universe rules for the sake of player freedom

And it’s also the usually least interesting one in all tabletop sessions.
It’s really rare (or at least it was back when people still player 2020) to find someone whose main character was a Solo that wasn’t some self-Insert power fantasy

I’m fine with the player being able to pick from those three different skill branches.
But my issue is that all we’ve seen of those skills are for combat (or avoiding combat) because the player’s Role is a Solo merc.
When I talk about Roles, I’m talking about the 2020 ones. Those weren’t always just about the mechanical game capabilities but also the societal role and jobs that character undertook.
It feels like they’re avoiding any of the societal role stuff so that the player never is locked out of any content because they helped one group or another

But you can choose your background which is the same thing but might even have more roleplaying elements since it informs a lot more than just your childhood hero.

I don't know why people thought this would be anything different. A lot of games promise to deliver a world like GTA V, and so far every game has consistently failed. As retarded as Rockstar is, the one thing they managed to do successfully was create a huge, open world that actually distracts you long enough to make you think "Hey, this is pretty cool.". Far Cry and Assassin's Creed always try that shit and just fall short. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to try, and they are going to fall short.

have you ever read a cyberpunk novel or played one of the RPGs? there is loads of action, martial arts, street samurais, etc

well considering the only RPG element they've talked about so far and shown in the latest demo according to multiple youtubers is "if you're X, Y or Z background, then you have these dialogue" which is pretty shitty, and we've seen this in multiple games that aren't even RPGs. i'm having huge doubts that having a different background drastically changes the world around you, and mainly only matters in the mainstory line. basically it's looking linear which is fine, but the fact that they said it was an RPG last year, but suddenly changed it to "open world action" is alerting.

because if i were a kid with a corporate background, i should be able to jew people into selling me shit for less, and have good speech skills to possibly land me a exclusive quest for that background, meaning if you choose the other two choices, you won't be able to do that specific quest, but you'll have your own unique little side quest you can do which eventually gives more replay value to go back and choose the two other choices.
