Do you think TF2 could ever make a comeback and be widely played/well known on the same level as other current FPS games today such as Fortnite, APEX, etc.?

tf3 maybe not tf2
I think the Team Fortress IP could, but not TF2 itself
TF as an IP did, with TF2.
TF3 eventually will bring TF back.
But for that to work we'll still have to wait a LONG ass time.
Distance between the titles is key.
You're right, as it is TF2 is a relatively niche game, but the characters are so popular because of SFM animations and such I feel like TF2 is at least familiar to a widespread audience
>TF3 eventually will bring TF back.
Am I an idiot missing the joke or was there a mention or rumor of TF3 a thing?
what other possible games could they add to the franchise?
considering their most recent ventures the most likely addition to the TF series will be a fucking mobile gacha game
I could've lived my life being blissful and ignorant of that fact, now my day is ruined. Nevermind fuck any hope of TF3
>Orange Box 2 releases
>TF3
>L4D3
>Half Life 2 Episode 3
If that happened then yes
Honestly I would love to come back to tf2 but without all of the wacky sack add ons and shit. I loved pre medic update tf2.
If that happened I'd shit and cum, but knowing Valve at their current state that will likely never happen.
pre update tf2 isn't nearly as good as you think it is, trust me.
>syringe gun
>we'll never get the heavy update
just
The cosmetic stuff is probably going to be here to stay since its been connected to TF2's identity at this point. It may be heavily changed in the future though considering how some companies have gotten in trouble for in game gambling/lootboxes.
>the most likely next update will be another crate/case with even more garish shit
>also, no new maps because fuck you
Huh...
Heavy feel funny...
Can it? Yes.
Will it? Well, a man can hope.
>playing scout and double jumping off a staircase directly over a friendly yelling medic with a neon red speech bubble to take fall damage and run over a med box in front of him
>stopping and looking at him before you do it
>they realize the jig is up and they immediately stop moving and you know they're typing in chat
Brings me the fuck back, wew
Reminder that this is the closest we'll ever get to a tf2 series
youtube.com
would be easy, just make team fortress 3 with both male and female character models for the waifu fans.
Reminder the pyro's update ended up making him worse than ever thanks to the Blue Moon nerfs that came a few months later. It's probably for the best.
What happened to Valve? Why don't they care about anything anymore
I think all they need is to go back on having actual quality control for what gets in and what doesn't. Stock art style is god tier but realistically, they need to monetize the game with this stuff.
I just wish they kept that early restrictions instead of basically giving into the war-themed hat simulator joke. It became their excuse to allow shit like that banana.
>Pyrofags won
Worst timeline.
Don't even joke, man. It's not funny.
Pool > Cable > Bush Beaters > Grill
They get more money off selling other people's games on Steam than they did making their own games. Also they make more money milking DOTA.
Watching Valve fall is like watching your cool friend from high school drop out of college and end up in jail.
This.
Wanting updates after the MyM fiasco is like making a wish on the monkey's paw
No. Because redditors like have taken over the community to where they will never fully demand Valve to fix it's shitty netcode, cheater problem, bad matchmaking, and merc balance
I just want a clean look.
No cosmetics, no meme guns.
A coherent feel
I like cable a little better but i respect your opinion
Install a cosmetic removal script. That's the most you can do.
>make a comeback
In what way? It's still here, people just only play 2fort, hightower, dustbowl and the rest are idle, weapon-effects, weird modes and trade servers. I would re-install it in a heartbeat if people would actually play the game and its maps like in 2010.
Currently have a boner for hardware and going by Glassdoor, the senior staff has basically given up on trying. If you don't get their endorsement while coming up with projects, it seems the project just dies because no one will join you, even if they don't actually seem to prohibit certain projects.
pink and neon green paints should have never existed. they add very little to the game compared to the damage they do to art style. they're colors you would never encounter in a reasonable costume. they're only used for the sake of ugliness and visual noise.
Undo every update that happened after Meet the Medic
Like make a comeback in terms of being mainstream and extremely popular, again on the same level of Fortnite where even my boomer dad can go "Oh TF2? I've heard of that game before"
Also insert rant about normies and mainstream things bad
It's very unlikely they would just casually undo 8 years of updates and expect the community not to make a fuss
That is the equivalent of putting fingers in ears and going "lalalalala"
I had my fun with TF2 back in 2009 and have no desire to return even since it went F2P
do you guys have any tf2 reaction pics?
It's very unlikely they will do anything huge with the game anymore. Shame they scrapped TF2008, shit looked great.
>Team Fortress Battle Royale
probably not, but it doesn't need that kind of popularity
tf2 community is pretty stable, those other games community are made mostly of locustes ready to fly to the next new fad
Only if they remove all of the cosmetics, crates, and Mannconomy.
Good point. TF2 is at a good place where it's not completely dead to the point I can't find an active server. Again we all just wish valve gave more of a fuck
I hate that we have to keep crawling back to this irradiated guinea pig of a game simply because it has no true successor and everyone learned the wrong lessons to it.
TF2 was a genius combination of not having assault rifles and not having bunnyhopping. No assault rifles means that you can actually have a ton of variety in your combat, no bunnyhopping means that the game doesn't devolve into complete insanity like Quake did.
I told you hats would lead somewhere bad.
>Your Main
>Your kit
>Medic
>Overdose, Stock Medigun, Vita-Saw
Unless it’s on consoles, no. The vast majority of apex or fortnite is played on consoles.
>flagship VR game is a Soldier simulator where you romantically snap necks with Zhanna, have sex with her, and then you both fight robots while naked and covered in honey
Should we get the idea to Valve? They could sell 30 million units with that alone.
literally yes, all it has to do is to start churning out new characters regularly
>TF2 was a genius combination of not having assault rifles and not having bunnyhopping.
this makes me think that sometimes a genius game concept only needs an existing concept, but with a dominant element removed so that others aspects can thrive. tf2's nature feels weirdly fair when the most effective guns are projectile based and thus give room for reaction. sniper is probably the worst offender to TF2's design philosophy.
just take my fucking money now
They really need to release TF3 for next gen
My favorite thing about TF2 is how you can have periods of time where the players can see each other, poke at each other, and react to each other's moves but they can't really kill each other yet.
You can't have this if every player spawns with a rapid fire long range hitscan weapon. I fucking hate assault rifles they put a hard limit on player interactions and map design.
TF2 being the only FPS I played for so fucking long, by the time I tried out OW I legitimately couldn't handle playing like a cover shooter pussy constantly ducking behind other people or objects and shit like that. It just feel so much less... interactive or something.
Even if Valve made TF3 it wouldn't recapture the magic. TF3 would just skip right to the part where the game turned into a clusterfuck because that's where the money was.
TF2 never broke much more than 100k. Everyone knows em from gmod/sfm. It's a shame since the game is super fun but thats why people still play it, even the vanilla ps3/360 versions.
Unless they make TF3, no.
>As Scout
>See enemy scout
>Super duper epic 1v1
>We both miss every shot
>"Nice shot"
>"Thank's, pally"
>A new friend is made
>We each go out separate ways
>Spend the rest of the match avoiding each other if possible
I've never seen another game capture this sort of spontaneous moments so organicly as TF2
>even the vanilla ps3/360 versions.
I had to look that up to make sure you weren't bullshitting. Godspeed those players keeping that version active.
I was playing today on my xbone. Was nice not having the framerate shit itself.
don't forget when one of the players types something like "gg scout" in chat and the other player either doesn't respond or types some weak response like "lol"
>want reinstall tf2
>remember snipers
>desire disappears
I knew that Overwatch wasn't going to scratch the TF2 itch when I saw that it had lots of hitscan weapons capable of headshots, many of them being rapid fire.
It feels less interactive because it IS less interactive.
If that were literally any other multiplayer shooter one of you would have died in half a second tops and there would be nothing memorable about it.
it's proof that money and power corrupts even the purest of souls.
same
FUCK snipers
and FUCK lmaobox
Imagine playing TF2 on PS3/Xbox and seeing all these players complain about not getting an update in a few months lmao
fuck, i used to play the 360 version exclusively before i had a PC
weird looking back how people were making a huge deal about the sandman being added
>queue into casual match
>three people spamming shit that's cut off
>check their profiles, multiple vac bans
What's the point of vac anyway?
Something that happened just a couple of days ago
>As Engie
>Enemy Scout approaches
>We start shooting
>I'm one hit away from dying
>Fuck it, Rancho Relaxo time
>He stops firing
>Starts playing the bongos
God I love this game.
It's time is over. The only unfortunate thing is that what's come after is bunk.
No because class-based competitive games are fucking dumb and never properly balanced because every class besides the dev's favorite is an afterthought and the dev will never let their bias be trumped.
It revolves around arbitration and fake scenarios where you're not allowed to do certain things "because".
The biggest retardation of TF2 is the ability to pick sidearms and melee weapons, but limiting what you can pick instead of limiting how each class can use said sidearm or melee weapon.
Anyone should be able to use a pistol or shotgun. Only some classes should be able to use two-handed melee weapons. How fast or efficiently a class uses said sidearm or melee weapon is based on the class, so scout can equip and shoot fast, but heavy does it slower but has more health. etc
The current system is flawed and caters to 5v5 mobafaggots. Moba is a shitty subgenre and always will be. Period.
what in the god damn fuck are you talking about
I hate soldier so much. Fuck you, Robin.
>No because class-based competitive games are fucking dumb
stopped reading here. TF2 was not and never will be competitive, in fact, competitive is a big reason why it's in the hole it's currently in. meet your match was undoubtedly the worst update to ever happen. i wonder how much better off we'd be if that piece of shit never left development.
>hey gabe our retarded hat economy is making our game an extremely unpleasant experience
>let's force comp down everyone's throats and kill the fun that was community servers
>BRILLIANT
>implying the lack of balance isn't what made it fun
Not their fault you get shitty teammates
This is pretty much true.
Another major issue with classes-based online games is how they'll always have to be a compromise between gameplay diversity and consistently high skill ceiling.
>more diverse and varying classes -> the more battles are predetermined by class countering
>less diversity -> more room for individual player skill
TF2 hsa relatively undiverse classes as far as core mechanics go and thus offers a lot of room for individual skill, which usually determines fights. Any class can kill any class if there is a clear skill difference between the players.
you're delusional. in hindsight, cosmetic economy was obviously a genius addition. it brought in plenty of money and simultaneously simultaneously gave the game even more memetic value in interntet discourse, increased player-identity significantly and simply added plenty of value to the game, even if it had its downsides.
>we'll never get affordable strange gunslingers
just
Like what others are saying, TF2 won’t make a comeback, but the IP has potential. Team Fortress 3 or a remake/remaster of Team Fortress 2 is needed.
Are the west coast servers dead? Been wanting to pub stomp again
>but the IP has potential
definitely, but the semi-politically-incorrect and careless attitude of TF2 probably turns Valve off from developing a new game for it when they have the Dota and Half-life IPs.
Thinking about CS:GO, it's pretty funny how it's also getting a bit "problematic" with terrorism becoming more prevelant in the West each year and people getting more and more sensitive. It's certainly not the most marketable theme when comparing to the likes of Overwatch and Fortnite.
>They never released a GamingHeads Scout statue
So mad, I was all ready to get it.
Even though they're definitely less active, imo community servers are still active and fun
There isn't enough TF2 merch. The pattern seemed to be "Valve licenses TF2 for merch, forgets about it so it's always out of stock"
If I was rich I'd plaster that in every corner.
I miss party van's old soundlist
I blame Overwatch for TF2's lack of updates
>try convincing friend to play tf2
>"nah user it looks so childish and boring"
>yo have you tried overwatch?? Shits sick!"
Fucking normies
Despite all the jokes, I don't. It's not like Overwatch suddenly took away TF2's player base since after a couple of months, the numbers went back to normal, likely people who wanted this to finally be a worthy successor but didn't even come close. It's just Valve being Valve. Who the fuck knows what goes on over there.
to scare children into not losing their virtual items
also i've seen people with bans between 0 days and a week old like what the fuck man
Since TF2 is considered a gateway game for pc gaming and if a lot of people were to get a gaming pc for some reason then yes it could make a comeback.
frontier justice is fun as hell. used it for the first time and ended up with 26 crits
>that piece of shit never left development.
Stopped reading here.
>the hit reg will NEVER be fixed
>quickplay will NEVER return
>keys will NEVER go bellow 50 ref
>cosmetics will be getting uglier and uglier and NEVER be good looking again
>cases will NEVER go back to being crates again or just dont arbitrarily seperate cosmetics of a set to different rarity tiers that are artificial and complete bullshit
>the caber will NEVER be good again
>spy will NEVER be fixed so he doesnt have to rely on cl_interp 5 and the kunai dead ringer to do his fucking job because sniper outclasses him
>tf2 will NEVER be fun again
