Perhaps the most important scene in FFVII in reference to Cloud is Tifa's flashback to when she happened upon him at the Sector 7 train station. Cloud was a babbling, aimless vagrant. Tifa filled in the blanks enough for him to pretend he was a cool guy like Zack and able to help her, because he joined Soldier/Shinra to impress her in the first place.
Cloud is an unreliable narrator, and Tifa validated his fake story so as to keep him close.

I mean, this is the case for most major characters of the series as a whole, Sephiroth gets memed to a carzy degree as well in everything he's one, Vincent is very different from the original game and onto his own rails shooter, tifa acts odd in AC considering her characterization, etc. The entire cast of characters has been memed to hell and back based on the simple fact that it's a game heading to it's 25th birthday.

Not going to bother with the spoiler tags, just going to say it now: Spoilers on a 20-something year old game
Basically yes, Cloud is really messed up in the head. It all started as a kid where dear little Cloud suffered from some pretty serious insecurities due to not being particularly popular with the other children in his town and owing to his crush on Tifa, who truly and for all intents and purposes knew Cloud, but they weren't really friends (which is why she seems like she knows him but not really in the beginning--it's because she actually doesn't. She's not playing dumb and doesn't remember--she just wasn't close to him like he remembers. This gets revealed later on in the game.
ANYWAY there's this whole thing with Sephiroth and Nibelheim yada yada. Cloud remembers being Zack (on account of Mako poisoning and his proximity to Zack who was nursing him back to health) remembers being in SOLDIER, etc.
The one thing that DID happen (and I personally don't remember if Cloud remembers or not) is Cloud being stabbed by Sephiroth and using the leverage of the Masamune, throws him into the life stream at the bottom of the reactor.
So for the first time (but not the last) Cloud is delusional from Mako poisoning (due to an experiment on him by Hojo to turn him into a Sephiroth Clone) and near death and basically cooks up this entire story to protect his own fragile little ego, effectively living life through Zack.
When he gets mako poisoning a second time and he and Tifa fall into the life stream, the life stream and Tifa help him sort out his shit and reclaim his identity while becoming a stronger person for it.
TLDR; yes

if you're talking about Nibelheim, Cloud got a sucker shot (stab?) right through Sephiroth's guts and had a fresh round of Mako steroids to boot. Sephiroth was keeping Jenova's head safe and guarding himself while wounded. It really isn't out of the realm of possibility that Cloud could slam him against the wall in that situation.
It's just seems so much worse to flex Sephiroth that early. In Midgar he's only mentioned like three times not counting the flashback with Tifa, and Shinra HQ massacre. It build him up to finally show up during the Nibelheim flashback.

Cloud is a girl whose brain was messed up and based part of her life off of her friend Zack, even adopting his gender. I hope she realizes her true gender identity in the remake.

Well to get SUPER SERIAL about it, I think the whole point was that Cloud was never weak. Cloud was always strong, possibly stronger even than Zack.
But where Zack had confidence and belief in himself that he could accomplish whatever he set out to do, Cloud was eaten alive by insecurity and self-doubt. Cloud didn't believe in himself. He was his own greatest enemy and always held himself back.
It's quite possibly the reason Cloud decided to incorporate so much of Zack into his own personality after his bout of mako poisoning. He envied and looked up to Zack because of Zack's confidence in himself.

Technically Sephiroth had to have beaten Cloud down to get by him and make it to the catwalk area. Cloud just kept going after him to the point where he gets tired of fighting Cloud and stabs him and Cloud uses that against him to throw him into the exposed Mako pit.
They've already completely ruined the climax of Episode 1 by having Sephiroth show up before the Shin-Ra Building. So yes, they're probably going to ruin that too.

FFVII is a legitimately enjoyable jrpg, I'm not even talking about it from an objective standpoint, or its legacy.
I played it for the first time in 2015, and I had a fucking blast.
The cast is fun and memorable, the equipment mechanics are cool too mess around with, and the scope of the game really makes you feel immersed in a grand adventure because you can travel the world and there's so much variety.

I've been replaying it for the first time since like 2005. It's still fun and endearing in that "it's really a SNES game, but on PlayStation" way.

The ending to episode one is going to ruin one of the coolest moments of the game, stepping out of midgar into the green open world, but beyond that it puts pressure on the opening of episode 2. The only way you could really have a fun opener is if you started off inside the flashback at Kalm throwing Sephiroth and that whole situation right at the player. If they fuck up his slow buildup and lack of a full reveal inside Midgar then who knows really, the flashback scene won't have the same sort of energy as it did in the original.

The wrong characters died.
This is a story-telling mistake in the original, I think. We find out Sephiroth was there in Shinra HQ, but we don't really know what that means. The player is confused by this knowledge, but really the better emotion to convey in that scene is dread. We only learn who Sephiroth is in an infodump in Kalm, which gives you all sorts of context that would've been helpful to have a couple hours earlier.
If Sephiroth is established as a foreboding figment of Cloud's imagination earlier on, then it will become far more sinister and horrifying when the real-life violence in Shinra HQ occurs. Cloud will realize that maybe that wasn't a figment of his imagination, but that Sephiroth is actually alive and dangerous.
This better sets the stage for the next leg of the game, as well as the broader theme: the interplay between Cloud's identity crisis and the pursuit of Sephiroth.

Who fucking knows "how" he will be revealed. There is no telling that this scene even exists in the actual game, neither is there proof that it's the "first" scene. For all we know it might even be post-Shinra-HQ content (Cloud's group might not neccessarily immdietly leave Midgard this time around) or even the final scene of the game.

I just had an interesting discussion with my brother and we concluded that the best they could come up with is a new section between Sector 6 and the Shinra HQ taking place in the upper plate. The life in the upper plates is completely left aside in the game. We barely even know how the towns look.

No the original is more subtle. We don't need to be told Sephiroth is incredibly powerful and scary because Cloud has visions about him. We see it ourselves. When he slaughters the entire building that just took an hour for us to get past. Or he kills the dragon in the flashback in one hit while Cloud dies immediately. Or the giant snake that took over an hour of learning how to catch Chocobos to bypass was utterly decimated by him. These were some of the best narrative aspects of the original and would totally be ruined by revealing Sephiroth earlier
Completely disagree, there is an extra layer of dread that comes from the player not having all the information. Coming across such savage scenes without knowing the full how or why to the situation is what makes it so terrifying.

Physically revealing him isn't a big deal though, especially if he's just there to passively taunt Cloud. What the other user is saying is Cloud's panicked reaction to an apparent ghost will hit home much harder when the Shinra massacre is revealed. None of this shit matters to us since we've all played it, but it adds some interesting depth for the somehow growing number of people who haven't yet
Sephiroth appearing earlier establishes him as an INTERNAL threat. The Shinra HQ escape would still be the first instance of him as an external, real threat capable of violence.
As far as Cloud knows before Shinra HQ, Sephiroth was someone who fucked him up and that he experiences visions of because of PTSD. The penny would drop in Shinra HQ when you realize no, this guy's real, he's not just in Cloud's head.
When I first played FFVII as a kid, I was spooked by all the blood and death in Shinra HQ, but also confused about what it even meant. Other characters were talking about Sephiroth, but they had more knowledge than me. Information was withheld from the player to artificially build dread, and that's a storytelling technique I've learned to see as quite cheap and lazy as I've gotten older. I appreciate the fear of the unknown, but I don't appreciate characters having full knowledge of something and the author/creator/narrator withholding it just to mess with the reader/audience.

I do think we'll see every area in the remake but I can see them moving things around because otherwise the final part after Aerith's death would be too many revisited locations.

Considering E3 though, it appears like Kitase is the "real one" in charge. That might actually be true considering that in 1997 Director might be more important than Producer, but in todays super-corporate-centric gaming development, the Producer, escpacially someone who plays the "suits guy" seems to have more power, so other than Sakaguchi missing, everyone important from the original is on board at the correct position. They even specified to have "new" dev members who didn't participate in the making of the original to only be actual fans of the original FFVII, so literally everyone in the team is a nostalgiatard, to the point one would have to worry that they'd keep things TOO close to the original, possibly.

by the time i played it aeristh's death was pretty much common knowledge, my little brother who dosent even fucking play FF knows she dies.
I feel like part of your emotional link to her death has to do with whether she was with you during the game's many optional scenes. The game does have pseudo-dating sim elements so you can miss out on a lot of Aerith's scenes if you've ranked up points for another girl instead.
it was alright, the main story is pretty much nonexistant until the final 2-3 hours, but thats KH in general, the combat is fun but it has alot of shit that get on my nerves like the ungodly amount of recovery frames after landing from a jump and how magic is gimped hard on critical mode.

It's ATB, brainlet. I am talking about the actual ATB from the original not the "play pretend pseudo-turn based system" that people deluded themselves into by changing ATB settings to "Wait" at the first moment possible, like a pussy. The things that got "replaced" can be listed one by one:
- Added Second ATB bar
- Expanded real-time from ATB-bars into the battlefield
- Reworked "Normal Physical Attack" (OMG! HOW DARE THEY REMOVE/CHANGE IT!? REMAKE RUINED!), now a free action
- Reworked "Defend" (redundant in the original 99% of times), now a free action
- Reworked "Change Position" (redundant in the original 99% of times), now a free action
- Added Dodging, a free action
- Added Synergical Effects between different attacks
- Added Stagger system from FFXIII
- Limits now only cost a Limit bar and no longer an ATB bar.
- Magic still appears to work exactly the same as in the original
- Added character-specific abilities
It's the natural evolution of ATB. Adds things while still keeping the overall structure reminiscient of the original.
It's a dangerous thing to be hopeful with these games. I can get blasted for this but I noticed the trend a long time ago, with Electronic Gaming Monthly. A weird shift occurred around 2008 where they no longer gave bad reviews. Then gaming sites starting doing the same thing soon after. And I realized: the industry needs to support itself. They can't risk a game doing badly so even if they get X amount of suckers to believe IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT and have shills on youtube, reviewers, streamers, reactionaries, etc the game will sell. Something at least.

It's a good game. You don't need to reskin it. But with a full redesign with the RPG battle system, it would sell. Persona 5 sold. Final Fantasy 10 had a turn based system, just do the same fucking system 10 did. It would be fun. For people that like RPGs
