it was fucking great

Attached: feels_good_man_goat.jpg (574x471, 39K)

Fpbp

Imagine the smell

It was good until you zoomers had to fuck everything up with your casual bullshit.

It was still considered a loser's hobby, meaning that a lot of games were still passion projects.

It was the last of the golden years.

Attached: 10931401513.png (1400x1039, 3.2M)

>early 2000s
Back when Wolfenstein was good..

Attached: 58et_beach1.jpg (800x600, 250K)

Fun.

Nerds back then actually wore deodorant.

PC gaming in the late 90s / early 2000s is the golden age of all gaming of all times. Morrowind, Gothic, Thief, System Shock, Baldur's Gate... Console peasants can only dream.

You can tell things went to shit when companies stopped making interesting designed consoles and monitors and got into the simple minimalist design meme. There's no creativity anymore.

sure was.

Lan parties were absolutely amazing. I'm sad I will never relive those days.

>mow the lawn

Kids really need to do things like this to build character

It had less presenters going "You get to kill NAZIS! You gotta kill ALL NAZIS. This is a game about slaughtering NAZI SCUM. HATE NAZIS! Die NAZI death to NAZI shoot NAZI hang NAZI murder NAZI!! FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE"

Comfy

Attached: 1559694286671.png (720x480, 730K)

>build character
What does this mean in simple words and why is it a desirable trait in every man?

And almost no one liked nazis even without such powerful speech.

>everything you knew about games came from dedicated magazines
>e3 was small and comfy and you only read about it on said magazines
>pirating ran wild but not online. Everyone had 'that friend' irl who could burn any game you wanted on a disc
>going to internet cafes to play csgo with friends
>studios were just a couple of nerds making videogames in a garage, not multibillion companies with thousands of employees making products
You should have been there.

Attached: don't let them see you cry..jpg (550x550, 45K)

Its a buzzword that boomers use, that you either understand it or don't, and is never explained.

Holy shit, while I know that's wolf, it just gave me a massive nostalgia pang for AS-Overlord from original UT.

>csgo
1.6 you mean

Most modern men have cookie cutter builds instead of investing points on stats for a specific build.

early 2000s is when online piracy blew up as P2P file-sharing took off.

>buy one of those cereal boxes that included a vidya disc to play with
>flash games
>that one chinese bootleg console with 200 games in it

>csgo
wannabe boomer zoomer detected

it was the only time in my life i was "that friend"

Its not only comfy, it's realistic. Its why I cant stand battlestation threads where they have this clean neat straight edge designs and glowing lights. It makes their room look more like a hospital. where's the interesting designs, the clutter.

>discovering online play
>download every halflife mods there was, dick around and play just for fun
nowadays nobody wants to have fun, it's all about leaderboards, K:D ratios, muh e-sports, mmr or whatever. I want to go back and play stupid shit like wizard wars or rocket crowbar for hours

Yeah, sorry, fuck me, I've gotten so used to it my fingers run on neutral

napster and livewire absolutely uprooted the music industry so hard, they literally whined to government to create laws to shut down those sites.

It was fucking great.

It was a time before everything was trivialised by min/maxing.

You wanted to get good at Counter Strike? You played 600 rounds. You knew how to throw a grenade to get it to bounce perfectly where you wanted it to? That was skill, not watching a youtube video of exactly where to aim for every possible spot.

It was a time when you built your character how you wanted in RPGs rather than looking up a guide to ensure not a single stat point was wasted.

Was a time for real men who enjoyed playing games more than just following a set of steps in order to win.

>livewire
What's up with wannabe boomers iit?

this

Attached: 1559694286671.png (1024x768, 1.23M)

I destroyed so many computers with limewire/morpheus trying to download pamela anderson sex tape

>go to Microcenter
>great fucking games everywhere, holy shit
>literally 3 or 4 aisles full of big ass boxes with great art
>Quake, System Shock 2, Duke Nukem, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, Warcraft 2, Warccaft 3, Starcraft, Diablo 2, AoE 3, Fallout 1 and 2, Age of Empires, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Civilization, Deus Ex, Empire Earth, Simcity, Wolfenstein, C&C series, Battle for Dune, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Half-Life, Secret of Monkey Island, Sanitarium, Hexen, Tomb Raider, Worms Armageddon
>racks of magazines
>second phone line to play red alert
>playing diablo 2 on 56k

They were honestly better times, especially as a PC gamer.

This and there were a ton of them. Even literal kid's games were pretty difficult and had a lot of passion put into them.

lmao, I thought I was the only one who did this with CDs for no reason at all

blasting slipknot and meshuggah 24/7

i still burn game backups and such on DVD's sometimes despite shit like 4tb hdds/sdds being online for cheap

It was hell, but it was the real deal.
You had to drag a deer to stone arcade to play with stones for half a day with all those T-rexes all over the streets just waiting to take it from you, so they could go to Dino arcade and play Dino Crisis.
My friend Bob was eaten three times before he actually managed to get to human arcade with a dead dog intact.

Back then we played competitive OFP all fucking day long on hexenkessel when we weren't playing zombie coops or other random mods, you had ravenshield, H&D2, CS1.5, Day of Defeat, The Specialists there were so many great games and mods coming out at a crazy pace and people actually played all of them. Then HL2, CSS, DODs and GarryMod... RO ostfront and Darkest Hour and the OrangeBox in 2007 and then suddenly it just stopped, pc gaming went to total shit...

Attached: tfw.jpg (222x222, 19K)

PS4 isn't an interestingly designed console?

This.

Even the packaging was pure fucking kino back then.

Attached: 12134-aliens-versus-predator-2-windows-front-cover.jpg (800x957, 118K)

It fits his description perfectly

>remember downloading the Iron Wrath expansion for Rainbow Six 3 when it came out on dialup from Gamespy
Pretty sure I had to leave it on for a day

I remember spending all my money on an internet café to play CS and DOD while I was in highschool then we got fast internet home in 2k4, then my life was over.

Boxed/Big Box PC games were pure kino, can't find them anymore.

>there and brothers among us who will never know these joys

Attached: DKtIAsQXUAA_icq.jpg (640x481, 36K)

>console is in italics, glossy on one side. Buttons are essentially hidden from view
Don't even have a PS4 but it's pretty creatively designed

The Specialists was fucking insane

>all the gamers back then grew older and got families, so they dont even fight for the industry going to shit anymore
>devs have gotten old and dont care anymore, so just let business men decide all their decisions
>microtransactions and short games everywhere
>lazy open world games when back in the day, we could only dream what the ultimate open world game technology would be able to allow
>notch the only person who did anything interesting with tech. everyone else just cares about vr

Game industry died when the passion died.

Attached: 1532032216199.png (500x482, 97K)

its a rectangle

It's a parallelogram. Retake Kindergarten

Hate Gen X all you want but they demanded creativity and the entertainment industry provided.
As young as I was, I'm still glad I got to experience just a small taste.

my modern battlestation is full of clutter, from used cups, pencils, papers everywhere and some other shit that should be in the garbage

there were few games to play too and we invested more time in them
also playing games was pretty much guilty free and just our personal nerdy hobby
and I thought at that time that gaming popularization could be a good thing

Attached: 685.jpg (381x381, 22K)

wow amazing. shouldn't you be reposting a tifa thread?

Why doesn't shit like modern os x and windows have much SOUL as their early 2000s OS's did with all that shading and high contrast colors?

Shouldn't you be growing up?

>handdrawn covers
>manuals and leaflets you could study for hours
This was it, bros

Attached: 1517528515559.png (488x463, 28K)

It was shit. People actually though Ocarina of Time was a good game. No standards whatsoever.

1995 to 2006 was the Golden age

Attached: 1560375650248.jpg (425x319, 35K)

Box/cover art has really gone down the drain. It's no longer about standing out or having some unique composition. Instead its decided and designed by soulless marketing suits to increase appeal. It's lost any sense of identity.

>just our personal nerdy hobby
This was the most important.
Games were something for the nerdy kids who didn't do sports to play and the general public didn't give a shit save for when some mothers league or whatever stirred shit up about violence in games.
It feels too big, too bloated now.
Everyone plays videogames and they are regarded as important in pop culture as music and movies are, with all the baggage that comes with it.

youtu.be/E6IK1XiTtIw
We listened to bad music while playing very buggy games.

Fuck this game was good.

this pic will always be true until the end of time

Attached: 1532562752605.jpg (4040x626, 437K)

It was fun, mostly because life didn't seem so stressful and the internet with its gigantic wave of retards wasn't sipping into everything.

Attached: 1560724-littlefighter2.gif (794x550, 85K)

Online cafe culture was great, nobody had their own internet connections yet so everyone would come and play together.

It was gaming, like pure gaming without any other bullshit added on it.

when i saw that pic for the first time, it translated my feelings exactly
over time i find myself replaying old games or investing in old franchises instead pursuing new things
sooner or later i'm finding another hobby Yea Forums, let the normies finish destroying this thing

I was only a kid back then and never fully 100% got to fully experience it as much as I would've liked to. But what I experienced I enjoyed. I played almost all the PS2 and PS1 classics back then. Enjoyed the shit out of Legacy of Kain. Then my brother introduced me to mods and PC gaming. We played Half-Life, Earth's Special Forces, They Hunger etc, I remember adoring Windows XP and spending hours browsing it. Then my brother attempted to install a bootleg of STALKER he got from a Russian friend that wound up bricking our computer. And we switched to Windows Vista. At which point I got to experience the nightmares of Games for Windows Live

Attached: 1551548014288.gif (225x200, 42K)

>manuals and leaflets you could study for hours
I remember literally taking these where I went and reading over and over again repeatedly.
I still have few of them with me.

I was a poorfag and didn't really even have a computer in my home until 2007 or so, so going with some friends to an internet cafe after school to split the bill and share a computer for an hour or two was an amazing treat.

It had so much soul...

Attached: returntocastlewolfenstein-10-1100x880.png (1100x880, 1.08M)

Man i remember running this on my school computer in 5th grade, teachers back then had no idea how computers worked

So much this.
I wish indies weren't just pretentious tumblrites hoping to be the next undertale and just operated like older studios did and made games for a small niche

Holy shit is that some fucking Motherload? I played the shit out of that

Attached: sadfrog.png (480x480, 351K)

What you described was more mid to late 90s though. By 2001 the internet and P2P were already in full swing. Reminder the PS2 came out in 2000.

Although I agree on the mags
>magazines had demo discs that offered hours of gameplay for the non-ADHD and cool trailers

>writing a basic script on the school computers that made the CD tray immediately open up as soon as someone closed it, that I read off somewhere online

What I lived through is mostly 2000-2006 but I live in literally nowhere - Europe so the internet wasn't really a thing in my country until 2009 or so

I miss class based shooters like RtcW or old Battlefields from about the same time. One of the first online shooters I was hopelessly addicted to.

Beach Invasion was so much fun. Why have they never brought that back?

Kino.

before they can do that, they have to be nerds and have made their own way. a lot of companies back then got started on bank loans, publishers, and their savings

WHAT HAPPENED?!

I was too young back when rtcw was a thing, so I only played it offline, but damn they really dont make games like that anymore, it had such a dark weird atmosphere, completly different than what you get today...

My god the memories! I've played this game probably when I was 8 or so. Never finished the marine story because it was too scary though.

Faggots didnt watch other faggots playing vidya, other than jealously watching your dickhead brother conplete level after level, hoping he would die so you could have a go

I never was much of CS guy.

>RTCW and Doom on GBA
What a great pic.

You're right, man did it have a wonky (in a great way) campaign. I can assure you the multiplayer was even better. I can still remember placements for the Lieutenant's smoke grenades to call in the perfect airstrikes on certain maps. Fucking beautiful.

Those were the days. you could look at porn in the library and nobody would know, it was still all so new to everyone

This, I was only 6 years old when I played it for the first time, but I played the SP RTCW for years over and over and over. Never tried the multiplayer or ET. I definitely missed out.

Somehow I don't think Meshuggah caught on until the mid '00s.

The part about gaming devs being le small indy companies during that period is bullshit, as well as the piracy part, but the rest is true.

Id also add that couch co-OP (or versus) was the standard if you were a kid. When my mom or my friend's mom took us to blockbuster they wouldnt even let us rent SP games most of the time, we'd have to pick out a game we could play together when coming over. The idea of gaming as a social hobby was just that strong back then.

I miss just walking through a Blockbuster and looking at the cover art for all the games. Even if I didn't buy the game, it was cool still looking at the pictures.

You can go to any game store and still do that. The unfortunate part is, we have so much entertainment now that you go "I could play this, but I dont have time"

No it wasn't poltards, it was shit and Wolfenstein The New Colossus it's a LOT better than that shit, you are just being racist.

Barely played 1.6 personally, we stuck to 1.5 for a whole year after 1.6 came out until we switched directly to CSS. Too bad though, since as a result I waited almost a year to create a steam account.

>The part about gaming devs being le small indy companies during that period is bullshit
Iirc from the bethesda documentary, they were boxing game copies themselves.
You wouldn't see that from any company today.

Hit or miss.
Game quality is about the same, to be honest. People just remember all the really good ones and ignore the massive amount of trash that released back then.
Though, there are a lot more games these days, thanks to how easy it is to develop and distribute a product, so there's a lot more trash proportionally.

As a kid, I used to choose games based on the box art. Rarely did I make a mistake, not only because of the art, but also due to the fact that the average game had a lot more quality back then.

it was so fucking cool dude. imagine gaming without faggots. it was like that

What the fuck does Wolfenstein have to do with this?! I like Return the best because of the pacing, it just lets you run around expansive levels getting into fights, where as The New games frequently put you into slow scripted sequences.

>still have the floppy disks for MS DOS games like Wolfenstein 3d, Centipede, Frogger, Speed Racer, and Doom

Yeah, fags usually hung out with the goths. Now they intermixed with all these different groups and they wonder why everyone hates them

>tfw no early 00s closet goth twink bf to take to the mall and walk around the local park

Attached: 17.jpg (600x350, 34K)

How do you win at that? You make the best animal noise? You hit the most ducks? You throw the biggest rock?

twinks back then were nothing like today, they were way too masculine still, we're living in the golden age

It only gets worse until 'geek' stops being 'chic'.

'Geek' and 'nerd' nerd culture and interests going mainstream has irrevocably damaged them. People from the mainstream flood in who don't care about the culture or the interests as a whole due to lack of investment and cheap thrill seeking. Companies follow hot on their heels, producing easily digestible content for mainstream sensibilities. The founding groups are out numbered and pushed further to the fringes, alienated by the very same thing they created.

These people who started flooding in during the mid to late 2000's have never had to build up, create, or search for the things they wanted. Being from the mainstream, whatever they've wanted has always been right at their fingertips. This desire for convenience inevitably erodes the content of everything.

I'd say that was closer to 2007. That's when the internet went from this second reality to an extension of real life, with stuff like social media becoming so prevalent, smartphones making internet access more constant, everything phsyical was turned digital so even if you wanted to avoid the internet, now it's pretty much mandatory.
>Recently went to a job interview
>Guy asks me for my social profile on Facebook or Twitter just for some standard review to see if I was a good fit for the company
>Tell him I don't have one
>Guy looks at me like I just said the most offensive thing he's ever heard
>Didn't get the job

The world started dying in 2007, and completely died in 2010. We are now in Hell.
Fuck this world.

S'alright.

The Internet really became an extension of real life in 2010, but it started going down that road around 2007, yeah.

It's vidya, nobody understand the rules.

I'm pretty sure Windows 2000 had a theme like XP with the green start menu.

I played everything one that picture at the time of their release except for the football and hockey.

Lan parties were still super common
Budding internet meant torrenting, kazaa, LimeWire etc
Games were good
Normies didn't use the internet yet
Msn Messenger, Yahoo messenger etc

Only drawback was forums and online play wasn't a thing

you would take your friends systems and physically link them together and then youd play for like 10 hours or until you got a headache and youd cram as many fuckers into the game room as possible

the duct tape to the ceiling guy is a meme but that shit was the truth

except degeneracy like twinks, porn and traps, it's better now than ever before

MK Subzero was a pretty cool game, despite being really flawed. i wish more fighting game franchises had side games like that

true but I'm too old now to have a cute 18 year old twink bf. the gay window is 18-21. If you're any older you need to give it up and be straight.

I used to survive off of Kid Cuisine, shit was so tasty back then.

2006 to 2007 is when Yea Forums started to die. It’s pretty much the point when Yea Forums stopped being niche.

I genuinely don't have a FB or twitter either. The only thing I do have is a YT account and that's it.

There were very few months i wasn't genuinely looking forward to a new game. The lack of internet meant that learning about new games took effort, and hearing about something new meant being hopeful, not obsessively cynical to the point of absurdity.
Tiddies were still very okay in all aspects of the medium.

Yeah but at least 2008-2009 had Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the Caramelldansen craze.
Everything after is pure unadulterated dogshit.

There's no going back, is there?

Zoomers didn't fuck gaming up. The most you can blame them for is microtransactions, but that's really more their shitty parents' fault for letting them blow money on worthless shit using their credit cards.

Friend of mine was sorting through his stuff before moving recently and brought over a huge stack of gaming mags, mostly the Xbox ones (original xbox). Flipping through them was a trip but also both of us pointing out art/ads/sexual jokes etc. that's get you crucified by twitter babbies today.

This is the third day in a row I told you to fuck off with that pic! It's inaccurate, sucks, and was made by a consumerist zombie.

It stopped being niche but the people who were getting involved were somewhat committed to what Yea Forums should be. We got a bunch of OC from that era, fun threads, silly threads, interesting threads, the occasional what the fuck am I looking at at? threads.

Attached: 1456957706553.jpg (1159x792, 114K)

That was back when the Internet felt like the deep end of the swimming pool.
You could hang out in with your friends in the real world, or you could go on Yea Forums and expose yourself to hardcore porn and gore juxtaposed with cute cat pics. It felt like another dimension that you weren't allowed in, but you went anyway.

we lost the war on feminism and faggotry in video games before we many of us were even old enough to realize there would be a battle, unfortunately

Attached: 1559270875791.jpg (500x626, 164K)

Depends where you were honestly, which state or country you were in.
Internet wasn't a widely available thing until like 2003 where i was at. Before that it was CDs with "60min of free internet!" that came with a ham radio magazine but you could just reinstall the software again to reset the time.
Back then Lan parties and BBS servers were where you got your movies and isos. I miss BBSs, they were like private localised 4chans full of shit that'd get you banned now

Attached: 1557143571310.jpg (722x500, 99K)

I don't know because I spent all of the early-late mid 2000s playing Diablo 2 and WC3

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we end up with some of these people killing themselves and simply leaving a "i'm sorry for the modern internet" note.

It was a different time. Looking back it's kinda awkward seeing so many ads that treated their audience as horny adolecents.

Maybe things changed because things got more 'woke'? Maybe things changed because with more easily accesseable pornography such titilation didn't really function as well?

Attached: 53MtJ.jpg (558x808, 53K)

>expose yourself to hardcore porn and gore juxtaposed with cute cat pics

I wonder if Moot will ever have to make a formal apology for the existance of Yea Forums and all that it has brought the world.

Whoever made 2ch should be the one apologizing for allowing the id to run wild.

That's fantastic. I always liked how stuff from this time wasn't afraid to do a bit of banter.

Attached: hV4ms7W.jpg (800x800, 229K)

The worst part is, Yea Forums is easily the best part of the internet these days.

One thing I notice playing GC/PS1 era games recently is that games were a lot more arcade and barebones back in the day. The menus are much simpler and the games usually carried themselves by having great core gameplay/replayability. Games seem a lot more fleshed out nowadays and there is a lot of shit to do in-game but at the same time they're also kind of overwhelming and you're like... I don't have time for this shit.

>no Bomberman 64
That game was always more expensive than the others for some reason. I was so happy when I finally got it.

Attached: 16009101.jpg (616x796, 510K)

It's because the vidya scene was/is full of thirsty losers who would do anything for a whiff of some pussy.

>Never played the game though.
Do yourself a favor and give it a whirl.
youtube.com/watch?v=SrEFWv8aSQ8

I'd blame the second one option. This stuff eventually just lost its edge, not really because anyone really complained. Only nowadays do people look back and complain. Ads simply changed because they wanted to grab more people.

Wow even then boobs were censored I guess nothing's changed!

And even that is starting to fade.
Now, every thread has people saying, "Now that the dust has settled, please have sex :)"

I'm surprised he wasn't lynched at Google for having created Yea Forums.
100% agree. Which is a terrifying thought.

and now this is no longer okay. its fine to HAVE tons of sex with random people you meet on the internet, but to WANT sex with beautiful women? you may as well just do the world a favor and kill yourself.

There are definitely better parts. The secret is having relative small tight-knit communities and never mentioning them to anybody apart from people you know would make for good members.

Gaming in general was better up til 2010

After 2010 propaganda bullshit and political drivel ruined it. Thanks progressive shitheads.

EARLY 2000s nostalgia is dead pretty much ran its course on the internet back in 2016-17.

Now Zoomers are posting childhood nostalgia on social media for the LATE 00s-Early 10s things like Minecraft, MW2, iCarly, Johnny test, Chowder, flapjack, Adventure time, etc.

thats because of the difference in philosophies in game making. games were made as a product back then - complete on purchase, relying on nothing but itself to entertain. now they are a service, meant to keep people engaged for long periods of time, and not necessarily through entertainment - lots of games now give you a sense of duty, like you have to do this before a certain window or you'll miss out on this or that item.
its crazy that finished games are a rarity these days

That's generous. Anyone born after 97 wouldn't consciously remember the early 2000s(2000-2003) too much.

You're just a faggot and you never were a true gamer if you're that booty tickled because women play games now

I think starting in the 2000's games you bought installed and worked.

It feels like you can actually smell the fucking carpet, damn life is just suffering now

I worked at CompUSA back in the mid to late 90s. The economy was still in the dot com boom and everything was fucking awesome. I was making great money to reinstall Win95/98 on every PC with an issue to come in because fuck troubleshooting anything. Got a fairly high end computer I built for cheap out of "DOA" parts back then. I want to go back so bad

The problem is that women playing games now means that developers now feel the need to cater to their tastes, which are shit.

this thread just gave me such a boner. where are my Wolf:ET senpai at?

I played lans n stuff, i was 16-18 and those were some of the most fun trips ive ever taken. everyone was trashed, team captn gave us all adderall or concerta and we still got our asses kicked

It was a pre-9/11 aesthetic of the future. Where everything was cheap and clean and optimistic. If anything, the jews ruined that with 9/11. Just because something is plastic and uses industrial materials doesn't mean it's soulless. I posted both pics you're replying about.

Attached: Dup0y6vVsAA8LYY.jpg (844x1200, 205K)

Yeah this. Before 2004 or so MMOs were the hot new genre that took over after RTS games.
Funny that the 4-5 MMOs even worth playing are still ones that came out in 99-2004.

Core Millennial was the last great one and probably its greatest peak. Late Millennial was ok but a downward trend that continues to this day

80s-1993 futurism is better by far, there was plenty of colour and variety and soul, the 00's futurism shit is as bland, sterile and soulless as it gets. It's the artistic/aesthetic equivalent of commieblocks.

im a fan of y2k more

Things were already on the decline from the 90s. Early 2000s was basically the same as current gen honestly.

>Early 2000s was basically the same as current gen honestly.
Definitely not the case. Most can agree that 2007ish was some kind of weird turning point.

>Early 2000s was basically the same as current gen honestly.
Mid 2000s maybe, but I'd disagree about the early 2000s. The early 2000s were a trippy/weird time that was like the last breath of the 20th century, and had a mysterious/cool feel that 2004-2009 just didn't have as much.

People often said "The 90s ended in 2004", since 2004 had a lot of changes that screamed "the 00s culture is here" and the late 90s influences were fully dead:

>Nick and Cartoon Network cancelled all the 90s shows
>The re election of Bush
>Approval ratings of Iraq began to dip
>Movies like Team America began to come out that were disillusioned with the American Dream
>People began to get over 9/11 and the "Bush is stupid" schtick began
>The Rock retired and WWE begun transitioning to Cena and Batista
>Emo overtaking nu metal
>Crunk rap overtaking glam rap
>Myspace getting popular
>Web 2.0 coined
>Friends finale
>Laguna Beach started
>Release of Nintendo DS
>Broadband overtook dial up for the first time
>Eminem fell off with Encore
>Green Day changed their sound with American Idiot
>Last full year of 6th gen gaming, before 360 came out next year
>iPod became popular

this just looks like shitty melty blobs

I've said it countless times by now, this industry has a long-term memory problem. Nothing they do thinks in the long run. Games from the past are left for dead and buried, only saved by fans in a sort of illegal way with emulation. A lot of stuff from that time, stuff like source code, was thrown away because these companies are fucking retarded. Despite this, they still try to enforce takedown, because they don't give a shit about their own history and legacy.
Because of this, modern devs are only capable of looking back 5-10 years for references, with the few exceptions of stuff like Ocarina of Time, which everyone claims to love but then you try to talk about that and they'll only talk about Breath of the Wild.
>Oh yeah, BOTW is my favorite game of all time. I only played for 5 hours, got bored afterwards but it's amazing.

You mean it's what happens in a future ruled by jewish interests. You see the same exact ideas in Bauhaus art, which was a degenerate school of art created by the kikes in Weimar Germany.

This

There was shitposting, banter & alot of bloat in game genres like MMOs but at the same time something more - today, it feels like more and more people are becoming just antagonistic

Are you that same guy from a couple months ago who thinks brutalism is a jewish conspiracy to get rid of old architecture? This shit has nothing to do with the Weimar republic and you saw nothing like this from then. You sound like you just want to complain about jews in a thread that's not about complaining about jews.

this is a photoshop right?

>Yea that's what happens in an economically stable and productive future. everything isn't dirty ass DUDE CYBERPUNK MLAMO normiebait.
Literal NPC opinion. You crave efficiency and straight lines in everything because you have the soul of an insectoid automaton. You are a bugman.

That's because the Nazi's were just Nazi's and not literally everyone who disagrees with the current social narrative.

>want to experiment new things
>omg report user for trolling

If you think this aesthetic is about straight lines you're a fucking moron. Learn to analyze art fucktard. You looked at one thing and invented a jewish conspiracy about something you didn't even knew existed before the post. And you're calling others an NPC while going off on pre-programmed rants you read from some other mentally ill faggot's manifesto.

The feeling of your loved ones not aging, everything feeling eternal and happiness didn't come packaged in with guilt or destructive consequences...

Games didn't need to be amazing because your imagination made the game eternal in depth, scale and story. You remember when you still thought characters actually existed, and wasn't just graphical "things" that had an actor behind its facade?

E3 was a huge event like San Diego Comic Con and had booth babes.

>Local Multiplayer was on it's last leg but powerful and so much fun to spend Friday nights with pizza and the bros playing Halo or Melee all night long

Fpbp

pretty weird isn't it
>no you can't tell me to not be a massive roastie slut fucking random guys on tinder everday
>but you also can't have good looking women in video games, that's sexualizing women!

The argument is that it removes agency from women. Women want to be huge roastie sluts on their own terms, fuck the guys they want to fuck. They do not want undesirable men being aroused by the women they want to fuck. Female mentality is batshit.

Close but when it comes to this stuff about the legacy of games, my anger has gone full abstract.
My anger transcends the mortal realm of reality. My anger sees the past and the future and the present all at once. It sees the disrespect from both the players, the developers, the publishers. It sees the devs of yore dismissing their early work due to some trend, it sees the current devs disrespecting franchises just because the new one is more "cinematic" and "mature". It sees it all. And nothing seems to quench that anger.

Time to post this:

Nigger this is an anonymous imageboard, are you retarded?

Ah, Playstation 2 ads. In other words, jesus christ what are they even trying to sell me.

I was always autistic about gaming history. Growing up I'd talk about 'oh man this game has x composer/director/character designer' or 'they did game x' etc. and be met rightfully with blank stares from my friends. Skimming any piece by a game journo usually makes me wince in pain since they know nothing about the fucking industry or its history.

It was still a niche culture, so, if you were a pc gamer, there was a good chance you could strike up some friendships with other such people at PC gaming/pc stores or vanila eb games/ gamestop if you were a consolefag.

Yeah but then you get to claim you weren't the same person when backed into a corner for being a dumbass. Sorry, you're not getting the plausible deniability faggot. Take responsibility for being wrong.

It's nice that I see more yt channels dedicated to the history, but it always felt weird to me when people would just mindlessly buy games. I always wanted to know the company, its history and people involved before purchasing.

Seething gaylord

You're still wrong, and you're taking this way too seriously. There are no upvotes or downvotes to worry about here. You have no reputation to uphold. I recommend you stop posting and lurk for a few years before attempting again. You very blatantly have the mindset of a redditor.

>You have no reputation to uphold.
I've been here since 2005. Even anonymous people are worried about looking stupid. You'd know that if you've spent any significant amount of time here.

I don't think they predicted so much as never moved on from the futuristic=ugly and misshapen idea. Future generations will probably laugh at us for not realizing you can actually make beautiful things with new tools and techniques.

I'm seriously considering trying to go full out with game preservation. I have no idea how, not exactly what I planned my life to be but I'm seriously getting to the point where I think that if I don't, no one else will. I'll make a god damn manifesto, I'll fly off to every developer and publisher in the world to convince them to care about this.
Who knows how many games have already been lost due to companies not giving a shit about their own games? How many games that could be used as jumping off points for new ideas and concepts? Early gaming was the wild west of ideas, good and bad.
But now, every single motherfucking time, I pick up a new game, I know exactly how it's going to play out because everything plays out the exact fucking same. Only indies still experiment and all the need is a bit of money to suddenly go along with the AAA formula. The fucking nickle and dime bullshit where no game is complete because buying into these sleaze tactics IS part of the game.
I fucking hate it all.

How the fuck does mowing the lawn even come close to that? Don't tell me the spirit of your words were literally "to better mow lawns"?

Shit theme. But I miss manuals and LAN xbox as well as 4 controller ports for split screen(screen watching) and relying on toys r us slips for release dates and prepurchase.

Well I am not rich and I am not middle class.
And I am not on food stamps but belong to the lower class.
So I am sort of poor.

I even drive an old 2002 VW Jetta 1.8t GLS.
It's having issues starting sometimes.
I might scrap it and get a 2017 prius for gas mileage but I don't like the idea of paying 350USD a month for 5 years and I don't want to drop 18k all at once...That would dip into my savings for a house down payment.

The term you are looking for is yonic

Voltaire lied when he said anonymity means people tell the truth. People lie even when they're anonymous because they lie to themselves. Like you're doing now. You can't admit you were wrong because it makes you feel weak. So you lie about your posts and pretend to be other people. Not the same guy you're replying to btw, just an observer.

My grandparents and parents bought my consoles and handhelds up to PS1. Then I had to buy my own.

It's the ability to persist with something either menial or unplesant to attain something desireable rather than having the instant gratification of getting something there and then whenever you want it.

I litetally bought Gran Turismo 1 before I had a PS because i needed that game. Got motivated and had one 4 weeks later doing odd jobs. Felt so good.

As a kid I figured out really quick that my Genesis power plug would work on my Game Gear. Fuck that thing ate up 6AAs in like three hours.

>HE'S A RESCUE

was this really where they made the Mario PC demo? wasn't it at the building in the back where they originally where working?

I stopped posting pictures 20 minutes ago you dumb faggot. Stop replying to my on-topic posts with your architectural and design butthurt. Nobody cares you don't like apple or anything that isn't 17th century roman columns and plaster.

I always imagine myself giving my kids the newest entertainment system and feeling huge regret after seeing them squeal and fawn over it nonstop while using it constantly for months on end. I know I felt huge joy being the kid myself but it sure was a slippery slope of playing VIDEO GAMES way too much.
