I just use my real name. If this is DQ like I think it is, then you should do the same. It's what Yuji would want you to do.

Use the default name if there is one.

That's always easy, it's when there's a second prompt asking for another character that there's a problem.

MY NAME IS NOT IMPORTANT

Just name your character after somthing you like.
In Dark Souls 3 I named my pyro Hollowcaust.

Self-insert and use my real name.

If there is a default/canon name I use that one. Otherwise I try to find something that fits with the setting. For example, I just started playing DQ9 where you play a literal angel, so I named my character Raziel.

That's so cringy though, especially in earthbound, putting your real name there
