So long the gaming industry is in the clenches of capitalist, profit-driven hold, it'll seek to appeal to trends and masses, and as such quality will perpetually be reduced to a stale mediocrity that the same masses deem quality.

Another less drastic but less realistic solution would be to boycot the industry until it collapses and resets. It will genocide the customer base, and as such, only those driven by passion to create video games will be putting them out in the first place.

Basically, gaming went down the drain the moment it became a tool to garner profit first, instead of a creative outlet. The latter is nowadays not even a second, third, but a tetriary concern and motivation to make video games, and as such, they are largely devoid of actual artristic quality.
