In the original, you're definitely stuck. In the remake they let you switch whenever though.

You can pick a character.
You can choose either Classic, which lets you choose a characters from the initial roster of 8 racers and you stick with that same character for the whole playthrough, or you can choose Nitro Fueled where you can swap and change racer whenever you want from the entire roster.

The only reason to even play N. Sane over the original Crash 1-3 is Coco. That's it. You get Future Tense and Stormy Ascent, but the latter is screwed over by the hitboxes and slightly higher jump gravity.

Do you think they'll have a way to block this from happening? I remember it was easy to do in Mario Kart 7, but Mario Kart 8 made it a lot more difficult to shitpost in because they got more strict by timing you out quicker. It was also easier to be abusive in 7 with the tighter controls and item RNG.

It’s perfectly possible they’ll add secret characters in Grand Prixs, just not announce them until they’re out. I’m assuming that the Trophy Girls were announced all at once since keeping some secret and not others just doesn’t work.

Cons: Only own 1 controller, not sure how many players for splitscreen will be possible anyway.

Pros for Switch: Seems like most people here will get it for Switch, portability, easy local MP.
Cons: It's the technical equivalent of a smartphone with a controller attached to it so I expect graphics to be shit.
Also I dont have Switch Online yet because Nintendo doesnt know how to run a business

Yeah it has a campaign mode (uncommon in kart racers from the time, but it was actually quite good surprisingly), and all the extra characters and tracks plus a lot of customisation options that weren’t in the original are unlocked from an in game store with coins you get from playing in any mode, including the campaign. There’s easily over twice the amount of content from the original plus they’ve confirmed free DLC for after launch too, so there’s a metric fuckton to unlock.
