Right, but that seems to be a more recent thing. 1, 2, 3&K, Adventure, Adventure 2, etc. had stories about it. Sure Unleased didn't, then you have things kind of like Secret Rings and The black Knight. Rush was the Sol emeralds which is different if you want to say that. Then from there it really kind of deviated. Colors was about the Wisps as an energy source. You can't deny the importance of the Chaos Emeralds especially as they were a core point in the majority of the games.
