Tfw phones are starting to turn into god tier emulation devices

Not sure about Iphone but modern versions of Android has insane overhead, so any game that is not turn based suffers from insane input lag.
PC is still the king
I agree, but I also hate the touchscreen controls. I'm not going to use a fucking controller either.
It's okay as long as you don't play action focussed games.
>buttons obscuring your view
I could never. I respect it, but I tried to play FFV on my phone and literally got so sick of it I hacked my 3DS just to play it with buttons.
controls are shit
Nah, any game with touchscreen controls and more than 2-3 buttons is unbearable for me. I tried emulating Pokemon and couldn't fucking stand it for more than an hour or two.
Until Banjo Kazooie get ported to the Switch, my phone will be the only way I can play Banjo Kazooie.
>he isn't playing on the best emulation device ever made RIGHT NOW
Yikes, hack your Switch and have sex OP.
>720p
Oh no, how will I play my SNES and gamecube games now
I emulate games on my Galaxy Note 8 (samsung is known for having the slowest OS due to their shitty additions), with a bluetooth controller, and don't have any issues with input lag. How much newer do I need to get than a last gen phone?
>best emulation device has a 2 hour battery life
Rather stick with my PSP.
9+ is great too, but I think Samsung has their own Bluetooth codec, so that might affect it.
If you don't have one of these then you're doing it wrong.
Why would you use a controller for every other game in existence yet it is somehow bad for a phone?
>hands all over the screen blocking view of everything
>no actual feedback for the "buttons"
>using an important communication device that needs battery power to play 40-hour video games
yeah nah
I have a Razer Phone 2 and Skies of Arcadia glitches out bad. WTF are you doing that I'm not?
I just stream it from my PC at 1440p 120fps and it's fine. (Stream is 129, game is 30)
>Samsung has their own Bluetooth codec
That actually makes it worse. Sound delay is horrendous over bluetooth. But even with that, the controller doesn't have enough of a delay to be noticeable. I'm playing Legends of Dragoon and have no problem getting the timing for attacks.
Ohh wait, is that not Legends?
Are Dreamcast emus that good now?
I kinda want to play Legends, though, as it has an extra waifu and all that. Already played the original.
>>using an important communication device that needs battery power to play 40-hour video games
Modern ""smart""phones are toys for children.
Pic related is an actual important communication device.
don't tell me you go out with these
Imagine wanting to play games like this.
Can your PSP play Dreamcast and Gamecube games?
Keep it at work, use it all the time. Would use it on the train if I rode one.
Fucking Bluetooth controller latency sucks so much on Android, and kind of in general.
The Switch has it right, and XB1 has 2.4Ghz + Bluetooth.
I've had PS4s suffer major interference and get multiple second controller latency for no reason.
You have Snake on that thing?
>not using haptic feedback
This exactly. I pains me that the best versions of the old Dragon Quest games are on the phone. To make matters worse it's portrait mode only which I absolutely dispise.
Why can't I play Skyrim on my phone
>buttons obscuring your view
Until phones go back to the flip/slide format to combat this it will never be close to god tier.
take me back...
Was that actually good?
I have less input lag using my phone with an 8bitdo bluetooth controller than I have using a GC controller playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Not every bluetooth device has the same input lag user.
until it got worn out and outdated, yes
the buttons were cool but it was kind of uncomfortable, it could sort of barely emulate N64 and the analog trackpads were hit-or-miss. it was ace for PSX games and anything that supported remapping or its particular control scheme. A few PSX games didn't really work on it, but all the major stuff does.
The slider is not the sturdiest either, and the wake button inside it can stop working.
it was eventually outclassed by literally everything.
if you're into collecting Sony hardware it's worth looking at if you can have one cheap, but don't expect much more than a PSP Go that makes phone calls (and doesn't play PSP games lol).
>analog with no haptic feedback
No fucking thanks...
there is a center locating bump, it's not awful, but in my experience they never worked right with anything but the built in POPS emulator.
>Phone posters openly show themselves on Yea Forums
What happened to this place?
I beat Birth By Sleep on my old phone.
Mapped the volume buttons to become my L&R
I'm surprised at how smooth it all was.
PPSSPP is a goat emulator.
That's just a stock Wikipedia picture.
This is my actual Nokia 1100, I've been using it for about 13 years. It's quite dirty (trust me, I've tried cleaning it and nothing works) but I still love it. Thankfully whatever network this thing supports still hasn't shut down in my country.
And yes, it does have snake. It's Snake 2 though.
On I know.
I have the SN30 Pro and both of the original ones, and the original ones had TERRIBLE input lag.
The pro has okay latency, but neither on my Pixel C, my Razer Phone 2, nor my nVidia SHIELD TV and og tablet have low enough latency to be perfect. It's good enough, but it's annoying in fighting games and shooters.
>Phone posters
I'm posting from a PC faggot. Also, cellphones are acceptable for emulation. Cell phone games are the cancer. The fact that you don't know this makes you just as bad as phone posters.
For anything turn based, sure.
Although I don't know about the GC controller latency you're talking about...
I have the 8bitdo GC/Classic Bluetooth dongle, and it has less latency than my SN30 Pro. And my Wii U adapter has the same latency as my Switch Pro Controller.
I've even seen actual latency tests show this.
Check on YT.
>Phonelets can't emulate PS2 with 4x supersampling
lmao
>Also, cellphones are acceptable for emulation
Not him but no they're not, it's just dumb fuck zoomers who have overrun this site who say otherwise. Get rid of the buttons on the screen then we'll talk.
You can turn those off, user.
Then you don't know where the fuck you're pressing.
I've probably been emulating games on Android for longer than you've been posting here.
I agree that touch controls is never acceptable.
But my phone can output HDMI, works with every major controller, I can even just plug it into my TV and run Retroarch, ePSXe, Dolphin, etc, and play almost all games flawlessly at 720p, and near flawlessly at 1080p to 1440p.
There are plenty of good controllers that hold the phone.
It really is getting pretty cool.
...
>my Wii U adapter has the same latency as my Switch Pro Controller
Those video's you mention show the GC controller with a better latency than the Pro controller user. Also, both are pretty bad compared to previous games. Again though, the latency on my 8bitdo controller is less noticeable than the GC controller is in Smash. That is just a personal experience and unless you are saying you came to my house and tested my controller, IDK what you are trying to argue against. Maybe I got lucky with the controller I bought, but it is what it is.
>touch screen pieces of shit that'll drain your battery and overheat if you touch anything worth playing with it
no thanks
I can't get rid of buttons on the screen since I don't have any buttons on the screen. I use a controller like any other non-dumbass out there.
Handheld systems like 3DS don't have controllers because they are controllers. Having 2 things that require both hands to hold makes no sense, if I'm going to be using a controller I'm gonna be playing on a tv/monitor.
playing jrpgs on phones is the best
I am playing on a PC though.
>for longer than you've been posting here.
How come the only people who talk about how long they've been posting here are always faggots who've been here a week?
>needing external things to make it work well
Not really god tier then, it sounds good for portable emulation but god tier is still PC.
PC doesn't need an external input device?
>stretched-out
disgusting
>responds to one post
>ignores the picture posted LITERALLY 1 post before that post
>is dumb enough to talk about needing to hold 2 things separately
I'm sorry but I don't know how to help you be less ignorant....
No Mice.
No Keyboard.
No Controller.
Best way to play emulated games.
It does but why do phones? if they were god tier they wouldn't need 3rd party additions and carrying around a controller addon to snap to your phone is pathetic as all fuck in public, might as well emulate on a PSP or a 3DS.
Is that a note 9?
>input lag
The factors are so complex it could be the hardware but it could also be the software implementation.
Some are just plain better than others, which is why I stick exclusively to a specific brand of Quake and Doom ports that have very nearly been wiped from the web, because the touch control implementation by and exclusive to this one specific brand is godlike compared to any of the ports by others you can more easily find.
Extremely robust and flexible.
The Beloko ports that got nuked by some Russian for being paid products, but they were objectively better made and had active development
>controls overlaid on the display
It's fucking trash.
>needing external things
>god tier is still PC
Fuck it, I'll respond to this shitpost anyway. OP didn't say it was god tier. He said it was approaching. Even worse you quoted me, when all I said was that it was acceptable. Now go back to jerking off to your (you)'s.
>unironically a luddite
No, it's a 9+ or possibly 8+.
You really need to get over that, dude.
Same Beloko control implementation ended up being ported to the Android ports of Xash 3D and Half-Life as well, and slightly expanded and revised.
As long as you need to snap things to a phone it won't be god tier of anything outside of repelling chicks.
I was thinking of getting a note 9. Wonder if there's something like that for it.
>he's not playing on original hardware hooked up to a CRT
Stay on Reddit
Umm... could you please repeat your question?
The point of phones is portability. The moment you need to use an external peripheral with them, you might as well carry something else better suited to the intended task.
i left my gigantic crt at my last house
Okay I guess I do know how to help you be less ignorant. Lurk more
>Input lag and battery still drains like crazy on anything remotely demanding.
Not really and the latter can't be fixed.
Why would you do that?
Note 9 barely fits in that with no case. Don't know of any decent bigger telescoping controllers.
Yeah dude, just buy a whole separate device that's worse at what you want to do so you can carry that around instead of just using a compact portable controller for the device you already have.
This. This is the best fucking controller you can get for Android emulation. Not even any input lag, I tested it. Specifically get the Flydigi Wee 2 though, not the shitty iPega or other shit ones.
If we're never getting another Xperia Play phone, then this is the next best thing.
>separate device that's worse at what you want to do
Anything with buttons is obviously superior, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to use a gamepad with your phone.
>playing games when chicks are around
The thing you are snapping to the phone is NOT the thing that is repelling them user. Also, what do women have to do with gaming?
You're being obtuse.
>might as well carry something else better suited to the intended task
>carry phone, controller, keys, and wallet with you
>pockets full
>get to play games, make calls, use internet, listen to music, buy shit, drive around, and so on
>switch to something like the Switch
>cut list in half in favor of playing a couple more games
>switch
I thought we were comparing portable devices.
I went full retard and got a Razer Phone 2 with the controller...
And it's actually pretty great.
I love that the buttons are pretty much mouse buttons, ie, they click. Over the little Type C to Type C cable It comes with it obviously has zero latency. Overall triggers, analogs, buttons, better than an XB1 controller.
The D-Pad is weird, though. Too recessed into the controller, but better than the XB1 and Switch, but worse than the PS4 IMO, and worse than the old Wildcat.
I can stream my PC games with Moonlight at 120hz over T-Mobile's "LTE+", and play nearly latency free 1440p desktop games. Will post pic in a min.
I might buy that controller you talked about, though.
May be more compact.
You can get one of those custom controllers.
>switch isn't a portable device
Why isn't your handler paying attention to what websites you visit?
>C to C connection
Though about getting this one for that reason, but I went with the Flydigi Wee for something more compact.
I'm a flip-phone using geezer, so I can't relate, but I have to give you compliments on playing Skies of Arcadia.
stfu phoneteen
>obviously has zero latency
No controller has zero latency user. Also, low latency isn't obvious as previously mentioned wired solutions in the form of GC controllers on Switch have fairly high latency compared to previous Smash titles. Some wired controllers can have outrageous latency if they are designed horribly.
>mfw just got an lg v35 and it has almost the exact same specs as that xiaomi
And the Raiju Mobile is overpriced.
I think $100 for a nice controller is okay. $150 is overkill.
Type C everything is great. I love that the SN30 Pro is type C, so even though it's Bluetooth gives me problem, I can just use a C to C and wired is fine.
Does the clip get in the way of the port on the SN30 Pro? I got one to use with my phone but I have problems with it over bluetooth too (joystick inputs get hung up) so I never use it.
I check for latency by sidestepping really quickly in Soul Calibur V, or booting up Doom 2016 and seeing how it feels.
Lots of games don't require low latency, though.
I guess old-school fighting games are a better test.
Ohh I didn't buy the official SN30 Pro clip, because I read it does in fact block the C port... Which is mega stupid as it would be perfect for a direct connection.
Also I read it's too too heavy. The Raiju is big enough to help counter the weight of the phone.. But imagine a tiny SNES controller being too heavy... I imagine it sucks.
I personally use what's called a B-Land Cell Phone Holder for tablets on Amazon. Buy it. It can mount up and hold a Switch without Joycons or a phone perfectly. I even use it with my 10 inch portable touchscreen monitor.
Based.
You try the MGS games on it? I've got an older phone that's quad core and a full generation behind GPU wise but maybe could squeeze out 45s.
That emulator is one of two I've ever seen and looks like a chink scam.
I literally just got it 2 days ago and I've never played emulators on a phone before sorry
Also looking at new phones HOLY SHIT they are fucking dirt cheap to their overblown specs compared to just a few years ago.
I upgraded too early.
Tfw hated tablets as a kid
Same with android
Tfw tablets with a controller might be better than ps5 cuz of how shit modern gaming is
Who cares tho we got hacked consoles old shit and emuatlors
Phone + External Monitor + Keyboard + Mouse + Moonlight Desktop Streaming.
Bring your desktop gaming PC anywhere-ish.
Lighter than a laptop.
I just finished Valkyria Chronicles and am now aware that the unit Vyse was based on this character. Is there an Aika as well?
the nes versions are good enough for me. 3ds can play like every game except for spinoffs if you hack it
Slate hybrids are the future.
I use one exclusively now for absolutely everything I could ever need aside from the extremely intensive GPU stuff, but can't recommend them yet.
Still way too expensive and their reliability and longevity is absolute dog shit in my experience.
Too many things go wrong and when they do, you're typically SOL unless you can get it replaced. Third party repairs are tenuous at best with them.
does the 120hz display really make a difference?
Considering buying one soon just to play Clash Royale on it.
Pls respond
I actually came to the same conclusion.
Laptop keyboards almost always suck, and having them so close to the screen hurts your neck.
All I want is a screen with a PC in it, and I can use my own keyboard and mouse.
Asus has a monster gaming slate thing, but I don't have the money for that.
phone specs totally leveled off like 2 or 3 years ago. all the top end shit now is running a octo core 2.8 ghz snapdragon 845 with a adreno 630 or 640 gpu and either 6 or 8 gigs of ram. screens are all a bit over 6 inches and are all 2800/3000x1440 resolution. batteries are all about 3300mah. the only meaningful difference is the camera.
meant for
How do people play on phones? Your fingers are literally blocking the screen since thats where the buttons are.
Snapdragon 855 is a meaningful improvement, we're really moving into 6th Gen console games being playable now.
...
Yes. And the medic Fina is also from Skies.
Even if you did, I can't recommend it, because I've been using something similar for the past few years and had to get one replaced under warranty due to some defects.
You get exactly what you're looking for in the experience, and they're great, until something inside them randomly breaks.
The problem isn't the act of repairing them proper, it's an easy enough process, the actual problem is the availability of replacement parts and BATTERIES with no aftermarket presence. The battery represents the product's total lifespan, and it's finite.
Give these things another five to ten years when the kinks will hopefully be sorted and their cost should be much lower.
I actually never play mobile games. Only emulators, really, but yes. Yes it is worth it.
Also the IGZO display is super neat. It doesn't flicker... It is a solid image, no scanning... Kinda cool, and is easier on your eyes than OLEDS and normal LCDs. Never have to worry about burn in like with OLEDs, and it's so god damn smooth. The smoothness of the animations isn't even the good part, the good part is the input latency is half that of a 60hz. That's more of a game changer than the smoothness of the animations.
I originally semi-bricked my Razer Phone when I unplugged my portable touchscreen from my portable battery before unplugging my phone, so it pulled too much power from my phone and blew some part of the chipset where it decodes H.265. Weird. Got a replacement.
Android Q is getting a desktop mode, and hopefull the Razer Phone 2 gets it, or else I'll have to flash Lineage or something.
The only games I've ever been able to play comfortably on a phone that aren't actual mobile games are the Sonic Taxman remasters. Not only cause Sonic is a simple one button game but they did such a good job making the touch screen controls actually responsive compared to a lot of other ports I've played on mobile. And you can resize the on-screen buttons and make them as transparent as you want so they get in the way as least as possible.
Otherwise I'll use my Flydigi Wee 2 for everything else
I miss replaceable batteries!
I mostly got a new phone because I didn't want to spent whatever it cost to get a new battery for my Pixel 1. 3 years in and it can't even fucking stay on for 20 minutes after a 100% charge. It's terrible.
At least if I ever do get a new battery in it I can exploit it's free lifetime unlimited drive storage.
FTP files to it and have it auto upload... Unlimited cloud storage for movies and photos for LIFE. Unlike the new Pixels, which have a set duration of unlimited uploads.
>Flydigi Wee 2
Wait.. It's wireless only?
Isn't there a company that makes one that has a Type C direct connection? It's that one that sued Nintendo over the Switch, I think.
Wouldn't that be better?
If you're worried about input lag, I tested it and it's pretty much identical to my controllers connected to my PC via USB. It's the best of the bunch. Don't know if there's one with type-C connection though.
gamevice.com
Here's what I meant.
This one looks better, but I haven't tried it.
There's Gamevice, but it doesn't have great reviews.
Ohh? So the Flydigi has better buttons? Analogs? D-pad?
It's wireless, so you have to charge it, right?
I'm skeptical that the bluetooth connection is that great compared to wired.
GameVice looks like it might wobble back and forth with how it's connected and not one big solid object... And the company hasn't done any improvements for a while it seems...
Flydigi has been my best experience with a mobile controller, but it is not the same quality as a console controller. You're sacrificing a bit of quality for portability. But the build quality is solid and the buttons feel nice. Battery life is phenomenal. Latency isn't noticeable. I can reccomend it without reservations.
I can't speak from experience with the Gamevice though, I've avoided it because of reviews.
