I have gotten ton of value out of it. RGB is worth the investment if you want to get the best experience out of some of your older consoles. That compounded with it acting as a nice multiplug that all turns into 1 hdmi it helps my set up.
The main draw though is the level of customization you get with it. Scanlines, picture manipulation, etc. are all fantastic for getting your retro consoles to not look like shite on hd tv's.
The one main negative is if you are using a ps1 select games that change resolution fuck with it really bad. The solution for this is to just play the select titles that do this on a ps3. Other than that I think it is definitely worth it.

I do have a CRT but I'd like the convenience of it. How much worse than a CRT is it? Is it just whatever lag is inherent to the screen I'm using?

The input lag is almost zero man. It is like the main draw of using a framemeister. Also if you don't have a crt with rgb hook ups cause you are an amerifat like me it is also nice.

I do need to organize it a bit more. Like I said I just moved into my new place. So balancing that and work has left me with little time.
I unironically play all of those consoles on the monthly. The only system I haven't touched recently is my n64 because the systems built in AA makes me want to kill myself (working on hdmi mod).
