It's Game Freak's fault. For a company in charge of one of the most profitable IPs on the planet, they are incompetent fucking devs. Framerates in X & Y dipped down to single digits during battles at times. They copy and paste a model of the same Pokemon for every area in the game they appear in. They don't just have one model for each Pokemon and use it for all areas, like any game developer with a half-functioning brain would do. This means that their games are bloated as hell. Remember how Iwata had to assist in development, and had to write a compression algorithm to be much more efficient with storage space than what Game Freak originally had? So much so that an entire new region could be added to the game? That should give you an idea of how much Game Freak's programmers suck.

I would love to see a mainline Pokemon game developed by another studio.
