RE4 informed the biggest gaming trends of the 2010s: over the shoulder third person shooters with quick time events up the wazoo.
Dont get me wrong, I love RE4, and it did what it did very well (hell, it's one of my favorite action games period), but don't act like this is some hidden gem or it isn't talked about. Thousands of people still play it today, given how many times it's rereleased.

Saying Re4's escort mission was bad is braindead sheep tier, because of "le escort bad BAZINGA" meme. RE4 basically solved escort quest dynamics by giving the player complete agency over what Ashley would do, even outside of garbage bins. However, the industry ended up dumping the knowledge of this solved problem because the nature of the dynamic between Leon and Ashley became too problematic for the new industry emerging in in the 7th gen where every female side character needs to be some strong but useless independent womyn. So they just made every escort invincible because it would be offensive for female characters to be dependent on male characters or shown in a weak light, also because it's easier to program.
