The memes were homogenized on purpose. Advertisers, influencers and even just generic spambots found it too hard to penetrate the unique culture found on nearly every board on this website to push their wares due to having to essentially learn a new meme language every time. Whenever they tried to fit in it came off as phony, like an old man trying to be 'hip' and 'funky' like the kids, so all memes were intentionally cultivated into wojak/pepe clones for ease of access. Now anyone from anywhere at any time can make their own pepe/wojak and as far as anyone can tell, it belongs on this website with the rest of them. Now any advertiser, influencer and spambot has an easy time raking in bait/attention/etc, and the mods are complicit in this.
This is what hiroshimoot meant when he said the website was becoming advertiser friendly. Everyone uses adblockers, so the threads and conversations you have are now the advertisements. Constant "This is your X, say something nice about her!" and "-new product blocks your path-" spam, they're started by machines. If you comb through the archives, half the threads/posts on this website are identical and posted every hour on the hour.
