I liked GB Shantae because it was an exploration platformer with an emphasis on a world to run around in, and dungeons to explore. I liked Risky's Revenge, because while it was smaller it had most of the same concepts. I was kind of lukewarm about Pirate's Curse, since while it had a lot of the same style, every stage being its own separate thing kind of took away from the interconnection that the older games had. Yes, you spent less time wandering through towns and fields, but you also never revisited any of the stages either outside when it was required.

I haven't played Half Genie Hero yet, at least not much.

I do like the character, even if I don't care much about her games anymore. Seeing her is Smash would be nice since she's been on Nintendo platforms since the very beginning, although I'll admit that even Blaster Master has more classical NES standing than Shantae.

The reason I don't like Shantae is because her games just aren't that good. Take out the disgusting sex fanservice and the cringeworthy ploy, and you're left with what can't even be remotely described as a metroidvania. It's basically the same boring, button mashing trash pushed by lazy devs for years. I've tried my hand at the series, and every single installment, EVERY LAST ONE, relies on you liking the characters and wanting to fuck them. Without that, they are boring as hell. Not to mention repetitive.

It's a disease spreading among developers sadly. If you can't make a good game, use titties to sell it. Yes user, it is pointless to an extent. The only character design you need is one that works for the gameplay. You know, a design that helps differentiate the character from the background, or helps you spot them from a crowd, or gives you a general idea of their gameplay prowess. For example, with bayonetta, I hate her over-sexualization, but one thing I would keep is her gun heels, because that's representative of her gameplay. Why do I hate her sexualization? Because it often leads to cutscene after cutscene of me having to watch her strip down while she uses her hair magic in a bloated quick time event, and that leads to unfun.

Give Mario credit, every time he's ever worked wiht Bowser to save the world from a bigger problem, he doesn't go "oh I forgive you for all the kidnappings wahoo!" He does it begrudgingly. He's also a silent character, which is far better for video games, and I love his little italian gibberish in the Mario and Luigi series.

You might be thinking of the Shy Guy from Color Splash who knows that his destiny is to fight against Mario at some point on the train. Then you fight him later on in the woods and he says it was nice to have his life mean something...

The shantae games are fun to play but there's just not much to talk about in terms of gameplay. It's not deep or complicated so there's not much discussion about it. I guess if you really wanted to talk about it, you'd probably want to talk about how the transformations are kind of annoying to do cause they force you to stop and do a dance before you move. Pirate's curse is probably the best shantae game because Risky's items are just incorporated into your movements. The canon and risky's boots are fun to use cause they give you movement options

I've played both Pirate's Curse and 1/2 Genie Hero to completion and I had a good time playing both.

I can list plenty of other series that people only like because of waifus. Yea Forums might be inconsistent, but I keep tabs on every last series. From Senran Kagura to Dead or Alive to Street Fighter to every single JRPG in existence, every single one is lackluster waifu pandering shovelware.
