If you can't manage your health with an additional 40% damage reduction on top of any you already have, you deserve to lose. Furthermore, even if you suddenly have additional enemies, you still have the option to escape.

to elaborate, vial of love will fuck you if they are too many enemies and you are overwhelmed, you can't sneak past them and the item will only work on one. which leaves you with fighting them off or running away. however it would be powerful in a duel or against a group with a tough enemy, as it allows you to take care of the most important target, even turning him on your side
cannibal's tome would be powerful in the right situations, similar to the devour ability from destiny 2, I'm sure it's in many other games as well but if you're in a duel/bossfight and there's no easy kills that you can use to heal then you're almost certainly dead since you can't heal
arcane shell is great and explained the main problem, but actually, if you can heal yourself it will keep you from ever getting below half health pretty well. it's also great if you're just doing shit that isn't hard in the first place, but if anything can do half your health in one shot, then even if you were powerful enough to heal back to full then you'd get hit by two of them, which would one shot you, so it will guarantee your death in that situation
essentially, they will all help in certain situations, maybe even most the time, but the downsides can get you killed. they all cripple your ability to adapt to different situations, which might be able to be offset if you avoid ever getting into those situations in the first place, but overall I wouldn't take any of them. however can we just note how fucking insane someone with both cannibal's tome and arcane shell would be and killing groups of enemies?
