In the first world there's nothing but a few houses with pipes in them. The pipes lead to a subworld with a really hard challenge in it, that gives you a key on success. Once you get three keys, you go to the end and realize that the flag pole was open the whole time and the keys just lead to rooms full of one ups.

It's honestly rather brilliant how they lay out the basic mechanics of the whole game in one level and make it easy to experiment with before the next one.

An automatic level where you have to stand perfectly still for the whole level until the very last second, where you have to make a frame-perfect jump.
