But from what we have seen of the trailer, they already have scenes that are unique to this game. Aerith grabbing Cloud and the Jenova smoke, Sephiroth showing himself to Cloud in Midgar, these are things that were not in the 1997 version. This isn't the same game.

A lot of hack writers in Japan use this trope- a cute girl close to the protagonist dies just to prove to the readers that the writer isn't afraid to kill someone off. Low IQ readers are supposed to go "Oh boy, shit is getting real, they aren't messing around, etc" and that creates tension as the readers wonder 'who will die next?'. When in a lot of cases, nobody dies next, or nobody major at least.

In the original FF7 once you hop off the train at the start you get into a fight then enter a door on the left at the end of the pad. Once you enter this you then instantly teleport to a door on the second floor and walk out of it. In the remake when you enter this door you actually enter the interior of whatever that building is, from there you have an interior gameplay section to make your way upstairs and proceed to the gang and have a cutscene.

This is what they mean, they are going to get rid of the hand waves and actually show what's happening while also slightly altering how things played out to make it a smoother experience. Example here is the first materia you get, in the original its just laying on the ground inside the reactor, obviously in the remake there is a new added motorbike escape scene which then Jessie when it's over gives you the materia.

Overall this doesn't change the games narrative but allows the player a better experience as they travel along it. I'm sorry but Aerith is going to meet the same fate, they aren't going to chop off half the game and redesign everything just to have her live.

- Zack
- President Shinra

You have to consider that cutscene model is prepared for face caption more than the gameplay model. Since you have an issue with her mouth, I guess it is related to this fact.
I don't know if square hand designed these models on their entirety, but we know that they use real people to capture the facial expressions. On top of that, the mouth sync changes depending on the spoken language.

We have to consider that most woman don't have such a thin and pointy facial structure like Aerith has. Real woman have more defined and square jaw lines, which obviously means longer mouths in comparison to an anime-like style.
If we were to follow your solution, I guess square would have to get a model with a rounder face as Aerith's face capture, since people with rounder/fatter faces tend to have smaller mouths.
But that's the same as saying square should get a fat woman to face capture Aerith, which is ridiculous.

What the hell are you going on about? There's so much facial capture that doesn't even use a look alike and its always been modified afterwards.
This game is unrealistic so they're free to miss ALOT of details, it doesn't matter half as much who's doing the face animations as with RE2R.
In this type of visual zone its just a base with the motion capture it never tends to stay the same, no one can naturally do an expression that makes their mouth wider like THAT either.

It is. With 3D character and capture its preferably that they look similar or else it could look bad. HOWEVER, this largly only applies to games striving for a real aesthetic. So face scans for example. Aerith is not a face scan (If she was she was heavily altered so that she wouldn't look it).

It would still be good to have someone who looks alike in this case but regardless when its unrealistic models like Aerith we tend to modify the animations pretty heavily anyway other than general fixes (which is my point). The base animation that is captured would definitely not be used on the model if you get what I mean, it would be a pretty edited version.

Everything you said is 100% accurate, its just that my point in this case is that the animation (in a technical sense) would be very different once its used on the models. With Resident Evil 2 Remake they wouldn't edit the animation half as much.
By edit animations I mean how it was traditionally done e.g. handmade (although not handmade it has manual adjustments made to it on a far grander scale when the model isn't realistic usually).

With Aerith I very highly doubt if they're using mocap for her face that the animation is remotely similar raw to what is when its being used.
My point being they should fix the lips since its not necessary for them to be any way for the mocap.

Just ending it with a "small team of elite fighters" is boring since you do the exact same thing with Sephiroth afterwards.
