It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. They said they were going to play it super safe to show they could make a competently playing Gears game.
The characters looks to be getting a little more likeable if the cutscene they released is anything to go by

What are they even doing with the series storywise at this point? Only thing I know about 4 is that it's about Markus' son and now a sequel is coming out and its about Markus' daughter or something? What are they even fighting now? The Locust and Lambent were pretty much done for by 3's ending.

Basically Marcus' son joined the army, then deserted because the new government is doing the same shit old government was doing. People start dissappearing, apparently the weapon at the end just fucked up the DNA of the locust and let them evolve slowly over time. Girl is grandaughter of Myrrah.

The mech section was pretty cool. I wish there was a multiplayer mode with one of those on the maps. Reminded me of the Brumak section in 2. I hope they weren't fucking around when they were saying 4 was going to be a safe game and 5 was going to be where they try to go nuts with stuff. Only thing I absolutely hate that I've seen so far is the awful crimson omen they are using. Everyone seems to be screaming at them to change it so I doubt they won't cave. It doesn't even just look bad, it actually fucks up gameplay.

Quick rundown:
>locust war over
>all locust corpses grew some kind of crystals that prevented humans from burning/destroying them
>humans builds mega cities with robots but apparently the COG still is all military fascist and shit
>JD (Marcus and Anya's son) is a soldier in the COG and one time sees some unspecified incident that makes him leave the COG
>He then joins some "Outsiders" that live on their own, Kait's among this group
>One night some random craetures start killing everyone and kidnapping people in town
>a lot of other shit happens, they ask Marcus for help, find their hive and stuff
>turns out some of the Locust "evolved/mutated" thanks to the wave/bomb thing at the end of Gears 3 and they started capturing humans to create new locust/human hybrid monsters known as the "Swarm"
>at the end of the game you destroy their hive and Kait reveals her necklace belonged to her grandmother and it has the Locus symbol on it

The crimson omen in the gameplay they showed is reversed from normal. So instead of the center of the screen filling up with the omen the center of the screen stays clear but the rest of the screen gets red. It's fucking awful and people are already hounding them to change it.

They already confirmed the damage numbers and health bars can be turned off. Hopefully there will be similar options for the the damage indicators because it's fucking awful now, we went from a harmless icon in the center of the screen to a fucking obnoxious B-B-BLODDY SCREEN covering the whole thing.

Yeah, I believe that was answered in a book or something. She was a scientist at New Hope I believe and grew sympathetic for all the test subject miners who were getting fucked up by the Emulsion and they somehow made her the queen.

It'd be fine if you can toggle it. Some people might just want to be able to see exactly where their crosshair is, but I sure as fuck don't want to be forced into that.

So everything happens because people were too stupid/stubborn to take precautions against shit that fucked them in the first place. I know it's Gears story so you shouldn't really care much. You'd think the Locusts being covered in crystals they can't break would have a response of 'lets put them in some type of quarantine' than just 'lets all dump them in a mass grave and pretend it never happened'

The story after 3 just feels like it's grasping at straws to make shit happen.

I didn't like the setting, it didn't have the same feeling of a large scale war going on like the previous games.
The robots were kinda lame. The new characters are all the same person. The game also ends really suddenly.

It really is, the story itself ended in 3, and probably should have just ended there. I would probably still play a pendulum wars game, or E-Day. The story could actually be pretty neat.

The SMG felt like shit. Was basically a fully auto Gorgon. The shotgun was fun, the sniper was cool but pretty impractical.

The multiplayer was tighter than ever. The story was exactly that middle point of not shit but also not good. You could sleep through the whole thing and it would be just as memorable. Horde wasn't bad until you realized how fucking cheezy and formulaic the turret gimmicks were. Then it just became a tedious chore to play in the only way to win. OH and the only new character I liked was Oscar.

I don't know if it still works, but before you could cancel Game Plus at the last day, get full refund (1$, or whatever it costs in your country) and then proceed to get it again at 1$ for the next month.

The gore with the actual fleshy enemies was well done though, and being able to play as robutts in multiplayer was kinda neat. But yeah it dragged on for way too long in the beginning of the campaign. Would have been better if they had Binary Domain robots that break apart but still try to kill you like it seems they are doing in 5.

Oh you meant literally the skins? I don't really care about that stuff desu, i only use the red locust weapon skins because they look really good with blue armor and i only focused on crafting the 2-3 characters i use. And to be fair, shitty skins have been since 3.

That execution is so fucking stupid, I love it.

Some of the skins are nice and fit the artstyle well, but others are just lazy 5 minutes in photoshop overlay textures that look like some Brazilian child's first CS GO weapon skin with a stock Unreal Engine 4 shader. It's really jarring playing multiplayer when everyone is running around with bright ass rainbow chromatic paint all over themselves.

Sort of. Gears 4 basically portrays the COG as psycho nanny state civilization that holds people indoors at all times and has robots do anything while still having a version of the rapefarms from the original trilogy.

Campaign was boring pointless trash, multiplayer was fun as fuck, i loved using the lancer against wallbouncing gnasher using spics so many angry messages in spanish

It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular either.
The game played like a Gears game but it wasn't as melodramatic as gears 2 or 3.
Maybe Kait will go full Locust Queen and JD will have to kill her. It'd be an alright way for the series to go.

The emulsion factory in 1 and the research facility in 2 are the best levels in the series. I would kill for a more gore/horror focused Gears title.
