I never thought they were as bad as people say. They needed more time to flesh them out I think but the idea was ok, if basic.
I'm sure they don't have the rights but I'll hold out hopes for a sequel or remake just to see them take another stab at it.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed the whole premise of it. Being able to switch back and forth between flying over the battle commanding it, and driving through the middle of it with your car.
I just didn't think it was very well-suited for actual tactics. It was mainly just a matter of making all the random units that you could and sending them over like an angry mob. Which wasn't terrible, but wasn't as fun as the regular hack-and-slash missions either.

My only concern is that I'll miss the summer camp aesthetic, and that the different worlds won't have as much random funny hidden stuff to find. It's hilarious just how many character interactions there are in the first game based around items that you only need to carry around for a few minutes, but it must have been a absolute chore to actually write/voice/program.
Otherwise, I like all that I've seen so far. Powers look smoother to use, environments and updated visuals look nice, and the characters I liked are returning with their old voice actors and writers.

Did you not watch the panel they had? All the studio people there basically said nobody at MS even knows what they're making because they don't even have to pitch games, they just make them. Whether that stays true for the long term depends upon them not fucking stuff up but the head of studios there has pretty much throughout his history done nothing but tell the publisher to fuck off and leave the team alone. Who knows though. I doubt Doublefine would sign up without some kind of guarentee of freedom, especially since Shafer knows Feargus from Obsidian pretty well and he would no doubt tell them if shit was going badly.
