So it’s either add in third parties that 1) either have a past with Nintendo or 2) forge a new bridge to add to Nintendo’s history, or the other option is to add in minor characters from existing series. Dragon Quest literally pioneered the JRPG series. The only character that's maybe iffy out of the 3rd parties is Joker, but he's incredibly popular.

I suspect the next game would be drastically different but the roster is severely cut down. Sakurai is too autistic to allow Super Smash Bros Ultimate Turbo to happen. Even though I think this would be the best step for the series.

Aside from Miiverse, there was no excuse for them not bringing the rest of the Wii U stages back regardless of quality. If they weren't going to make new stages there was no reason to stop at 100 old ones other than because it's an aesthetically pleasing number. Especially considering they're only like 12 short of bringing every past stage back.

And as far as new stages go I just wanted to see new settings from games not covered. Especially for DK since literally half his stages in Ultimate are based on a nondescript jungle that sure as hell isn't based on any DK game. At least the Returns one was clearly based on Returns.

With the exception of Joker, all of these characters can be pretty easily justified:

First I have to say, yes I also do believe its getting out of hand, though im not opposed to the last two slots or a second season pass, but 2 season passes should be it and only it if Sakurai allows it.

Personally, I want Viewtiful Joe, but thats a pipe dream at this point. Crash Bandicoot is someone that definitely should be in smash, he’s pretty iconic. I also see people asking for Leon Kennedy, but honestly it should be Chris Redfield because he is the main protag in the first RE game. Rebecca or Jill should be an assist trophy.

I could also see Parappa getting in, but thats more of a personal choice as well. Shantae is a good contender for being a fighter or at least an assist.

If any more characters should be added after those are considered/rejected, they should be Nintendo characters, then just end Smash there for awhile. There does not need to be a new smash every console, and people created the mindset that there has to be. Let this be the “Capcom vs. SNK 2” of smash and just port it to newer systems since people are suckers for buying the same shit every year.

In some ways I agree, but in others not so much. Many of those characters were icons of the NES era. I mean, Simon Belmont was featured in a kids cartoon for fucks sake. Castlevania 4 was one of the biggest early SNES titles. The series is entwined with Nintendos roots and has a long and storied history. Castlevania characters belong in Smash more than many first party characters that are currently in like Inkling. Same with Mega Man
However, on the flip side some of the third parties are a bit silly to have in Smash. Cloud and Joker? They have little to do with Nintendo and are just there because of populatity and recency.
There are still third parties that deserve a spot though in my opinion. Ninja Gaiden was a big deal on the NES, so Ryu would be a cool addition and would fit in well if he was designed off his NES form. There's already two Roys so why not?

Ken is the most unique echo, but he still has only one stat change (ground speed), plenty of moves that are exactly the same as Ryu's (every shared normal) and loads of recycled animations.
