Games start at 10 PM, but since after loser's bracket 3 match there is another losers bracket match (winners of match three fight with each other), meaning guys in losers bracket will have to play one more hanchan.than those in winners bracket. I suppose when I think about it, three pairs and a triplet makes you two away from tenpai for chitoitsu, whereas you'd need three more to reach tenpai for toitoi.

Unfortunately the game wanted that person to win especially if there was no way to forcefully skip turns and play genbutsu. You made the best reasonable decision, some games and hands are just phantoms. Imagine drawing their winning tiles during riichi or tenpai and getting knocked down to third or fourth. That's much worse in my opinion. Also, at least you had enough of a lead that it didn't also knock you down to 3rd. If you were close enough to 2nd a tsumo can knock you down to 3rd easily especially with honba just because you are dealer and those suck so much.

Fun to play, easy to learn. The only thing that takes time to learn is scoring, which the computer does for you anyway. It's a simple game you can have fun with pretty immediately, even before you get good at it.

Each time you see even slightest glimmer of possibility of getting a yakuman, discard any other yaku and go for it. Once in 50 cases you may propably get it.

To push for a yakuman you must disregard tile efficiency, which most competent players would not do. Getting consistent results by playing efficiently is better than going full retard at the sight of a possible yakuman hand. playing against bad players who don't care or can't see obvious calls or discard pools also helps

The mahjong in FFXIV is pretty garbage. Really barebones client. No animations, no fullscreen mode, and to top it all off you're playing with trannys, furries, and weebs.

Also depending on the server, it can take half an hour+ to actually get a game and when you do, half the time it's just people AFK to get their free gold saucer challenge log completion because you don't need to actually win.

I prefer tenhou for playing by myself, but mahjong soul is great for Yea Forums lobbies

for example, when most people look at they don't see anything special, fairly average hand with some sequence possibilities & a few pairs

but an experienced nyagger as myself notices that it is only 5 tiles away from a daisangan

I think you're mistaken, they know what they're waiting for because they're bronzies who only know tanyao and yakuhai. It's not like they're reading the discards, it's really easy to play fast when the only thing you look at is your own hand.

Usually, if I see they have called dragons/relevant winds and have other hints they are in tenpai, or when they riichi, I do not chase if I am not desperate or very close to winning a hand myself. Letting someone else get hit or denying victory is also part of the game.

Depends on the flow, if you feel that your opponent is ishanten or even tenpai it's good to betaori.
For real though, I only fold if someones riichi or calls with an obvious big hand(usually dora pon or honistsu)

Owner of tiles decides the ruleset, simple as that. We also play without akadora and without open tanyao. Game meta is vastly different, since you cannot push your shit easy hands and count for dora lottery - without good efficiency and top tier defense you'll get shat on.

Also, I'm from Poland. In every major city here at least one group plays riichi.

Then I quit mahjong because I was really close to 4dan but dropped down all the way to 2dan and didn't want to play mahjong anymore.
When mahjong soul came out someone made a post about it, tried it, and my love for mahjong came back thanks to the anime girls. I'm never touching that rigged piece of shit called tenhou again though.

If you think MJS isn't rigged, I don't want to ever touch tenhou. I only touched it briefly when it was hot during the Saki period so I can't say anything about my experience there but I've been battered down so badly after my first 40 games where I rose without issue that I completely changed my playstyle. At least even with extreme unluck now I rarely if ever get a match where I can't avoid going negative no matter what decisions I would have made in any hand and I'm still rising albeit slowly so I think I'm doing fine, just not nearly as much as I wanted to be. Can't imagine your experience
