-Kojima Probably

isn't autochess basically just a multiplayer deckbuilder game

>deck builder
Thats a bit bold to call the heroes = cards.

Anyhow it is new because you cant name a single older game which has done something like that in the past. Checkmate.

>we want the mobile phone audience

>"Give us money on the Battle Pass Goyim and you can play our clone game"

Valve everyone

>don’t you guys have phones?

Isnt this thing similar to the rush mode from plants vs zombies? Where you randomly get plants during the match and have to set up defenses on the go?
Imagine the faces of all those "smart" people when you tell them their mode is not original and gets called plants-like or something

this post won't age well

I didn't buy a $2000 PC to play mobile games

it is similar to shit like Dominion or Millennium Blades in that you take your usable things from a random pool, but the overall set of things you take is limited so splitting becomes difficult.
it is different from them in that it is a PvE "outlast your enemies" kinda game, and that it uses heroes you can combine to upgrade.
the genre as a whole may be new but it isn't doing any new things, just like Battle Royales were just Hunger Games for 100 people at once

>just like Battle Royales were just Hunger Games

Attached: 1501514107915.jpg (699x637, 41K)

>Hunger Games: 12 people enter, 1 survives
>Battle royales: 100 people enter, 1 survives
how is it bait? i may have worded it poorly, but the sentiment is true

Stop.

Autochess is just another one of those TD warcraft 3 / sc maps.
Why did it get so popular? Is it paid streamer promotion?

>Why did it get so popular?
Every now a then some map or generic game gets super popular. Why DOTA instead of other hero maps? Why Candy Crush instead of other of the hundred of bejeweled clones? Sometimes it just happens.

the FUCKING CHINESE

Attached: 1560459823712.jpg (1000x1117, 286K)

Is this a strand social game? I love that genre. It's so innovative and unique.

Which one has the cute anime girls?

Flashy graphics slot machine isn't a new genre.

HS/card games streamers have an audience with slow brain. Every time they stream something faster than turn-based game they lose 80% of viewers.

So in that sense they are willing to play any FOTM shit game for free just to get a break from Workstone without losing viewers.

after thinking for a bit, i did word it wrong
Minecraft Hunger Games came out first(~2012). Then came Arma Battle Royale(2013~14), then came PUBG, Fortnite, etc. et al.
Even though the book Battle Royale was the first, in vidya, Hunger games as a concept and as name for a genre was first.

Riot's game is bound to have LoL waifus in it
alternatively, mobile gachapon games offer a similar kind of 'enjoyment of randomness'

Valve already lost by going with le underlords dark dungeon theme over the wholesome nature vibes of the original and Riots version. Also Riots has a courier from the looks of it.

Valve can't even rip off a Chinese game effectively on their own platform nowadays, truly a pathetic company.

>"do you have a mobile number?"
>no

Attached: 1530188217010.png (1167x758, 908K)

>in vidya
Dude, every fucking shooter in the late 90s had one of these "no respawn, last survivor win" mode and nobody played more than 2 rounds because is shit.

Notable mention for the first AvP, with a variant of "all marines but one alien, dead marines respawn as aliens and last marine alive win".

Why did dota get popular? It just works.

They have the advantage of releasing it first though.

>why did dota get popular
it had a very high standard of balance and coding compared to a lot of other custom maps

that's not the case for autochess

Friendly reminder, Yea Forums hates everything, Yea Forums hates anything that's new because they all feel the same, a game that is different thing anything on the market comes out and is popular and guess what Yea Forums will hate? So do you guys play games, what do you play?

Attached: D87C-U2XUAAJZC7.jpg (2048x1661, 266K)

dota started out as a combination of all the MOBA maps in wc3, it was literally just a combination of all the popular shit into one map. It's obvious why it became popular

Autochess has had a pretty solid standard of balancing and creativity if you've played from patch to patch. The underlords patch right now is playing on the first iteration of Autochess which was and is extremely broken but if you play the current iteration of Autochess now that the developers have abandoned it and moved on to Epic Games you'll notice the difference.
The difference in coding quality compared to old warcraft is just a measure you'll find because the talent gets hired by big companies as soon as they make something popular, making the lifespan for mods much much shorter and crappier

>pre-icefraud doto
>very high standard of balance
wew lad

from that description, nothing like it

I don't think autochess has any staying power and I don't see how it goes anywhere outside of Dota 2

dude the game is like Go Fish except stupid, it deserves none of it's popularity. Regarding the coding, I just meant that dota had things like over a hundred of custom-made spells that did cool things not normally done in WC3, autochess on the other hand isn't really any more well-made than other dota maps (not counting all the hundreds of shitty "Dota but...")
talking about post-icefrog here buddy

I dig auto chess ngl

Attached: d8de7c34caae190ea66871bf62d7759d.png (540x571, 128K)

>talking about post-icefrog here buddy
No, the question is "why DOTA get popular?" and that happened before IF.

Im gonna wait for Japan's version of Autochess with sex scenes

As far as I remember DOTA didn't turn into the phenomenon it is before him, then it was just one among many.

I dunno about you but I play go fish the drinking game with my buddies and play go fish with my family when we go sailing.
A popular game doesnt have to be some ultra innovative thing, it just has to be fun and keep your attention. But if we're gonna draw comparisons to other games I would say that the Autochess genre is more akin to pulling the lever on a one-armed bandit

That's zombie mode you retard

go fish is just something to occupy attention, it's not actually a real game. And that's fine when you play it with your buddies or family, but I'd call you stupid if you played it online. That's why autochess is go fish but stupid

Where I said it isn't, retard? It worth a special mention because AvP is underrated.

So how do I opt into that autochess meme?
Do start up dota 2 and look for custom games or something?
I haven't started Dota 2 in ages since MOBAs are cancer so I'm a bit out of the loop

>there's no story
>there's no dialogue
>there's no voice acting
>there's no interactive cutscenes
>there's no guns shooting
>there's no lanes
>not a real game
kys

this is the most npc genre to ever exist

When it was described to me it just sounded like those old wc3 and starcraft 1 custom maps where you send units at an enemy's base and buying certain types combines them to make super units. Honestly wouldnt surprise me if they they copied an idea from that era. Wc3/starcraft 1 customs were inventive as fuck and better than a lot of games made today. I wonder if anyone ever archived all the oldest custom maps

Attached: 9e9b94b03bc69c64fe00d37caca4ac60.gif (881x717, 564K)

ah yes drawing random cards and having units that you don't even control, fighting copies of other players units on a 8x8 grid, now that's a real game

in only 3 steps we went from a game where you control dozens of units of one of 4 factions on a wide number of maps with big tech trees, complete with a campaign and everything, to a game where you control one of a hundred characters with a hundred items on one big map, to this shit

you are either retarded or chinese

Yes
Underlords comes with battle pass

I think it's free for everyone soon

I hope their Epic games version is a massive flop and the bugmen sellouts get on tencent's bad side

>Do start up dota 2 and look for custom games or something?
Yes. Just install auto-chess from the custom game library then click play.
If you want to play Valves version, it's only available to dota battle pass users atm, but it will be open beta next week.

yeah but it didn't have a unified name. FFA Arena? that is not a name, that is a downright description of the gameplay. Hunger Games also describes the gameplay(it's like that book with the 24 people and only one survivor), but because HG mode was played more than FFA Arena mode, it became the de-facto name (until people started calling it Battle Royale)
and that special mention is zombie mode. close but not the same.

Auto-chess is the perfect storm of shallow gameplay that appears complex at first glance, cheap thrills due to rng and literally no skill required to draw in the casuals.

valve is already responding well to community feedback and pushing out patches on the weekend
compare that to shartifact

Except it does require skill, that's why the same people consistenly hit Queen while others are stuck in Knight/Bishop forever.

Sounds the perfect chink mobage

they know this genre is gonna take off soon

>take off soon
nigga it's been taking off for like 6 months
if riot wasn't putting out something they wouldn't have played their hand so soony

Unironically, I have never played DOTA, but I liked Artifact and I am looking forward to this (as well as the Drodo and Riot versions).

That shit existed back in WC3 as a pokemon map.

how do i into autochess? i just dont get it. do i just buy everything i can, then make sets of 3 with it?

this will just be a popularity contest also what's stopping people from just not continuing to play the dota mod instead of playing dota underlords?

the devs of the mod are gonna stop updating it soon enough and move fulltime to the mobile + epic version

h*ly shit

>Hunger Games also describes the gameplay(it's like that book with the 24 people and only one survivor), but because HG mode was played more than FFA Arena mode, it became the de-facto name (until people started calling it Battle Royale)
see

>you're wrong but i'm not gonna tell you why you're wrong
y u do this

Attached: crying with questionmark.jpg (374x374, 41K)

Dude, you're suggesting that some book for zoomer girls is more popular than a cult classic from the 2000. I could write a 30000 word essay about your retardation only to get a "I was merely pretending to be retarded" as reply, hence the bait pic.

it's incredibly easy to rip a dota mod, it doesn't have any map protection unlike in wc3, the compiled files just lie there in your custom games folder and any missing info that you can't just reverse compile can be easily reverse engineered since the game is very small

the only thing you can't copy is the identity, since the steam workshop page is linked to their steam accounts, but you can just make a new page

UT99 had the "last man standing" mod at launch.
It was one of the least fun mods to play, but gamers back then weren't zoomers

Basically yes, but not everything. Take almost any pairs you get early and then by round 10 whatever race you have the most of just build upon that. Hunters and Assassins are the easiest to build and do well with, Warriors are easy to build but harder to get high rank with compared to others. Mages are consistently strong but relies heavily on getting an early 2* Razor. Getting goblins early can help you win early rounds easily but they star getting weak past round 10. Don't reroll unless you have no 2* units past round 10 and have a bunch of pairs then save till you have 50 gold for max income and start rerolling a lot past then.

Not a big fan of dota characters, or the IP in general.
Is there an auto-chess knockoff without dota characters out there?

Duh. It's where the money is

All that dude said was that it was the same basic idea, the only retard here is you.

League of Legends is getting one

Yes, the mobile version by Drodo. Riot is releasing one soon too.

League's autochess clone

That's even more gross.
I'll keep an eye out for this one thanks.

drodo's standalone has the most generic chink mobile game artstyle out there

.

Some guy on twitch made an auto chess-like mod for Fire Emblem 8 wherein the chat had control over which units are placed on the 12x8 grid map. What unit+weapon they had and the AI control the battle. An interesting concept, i think auto chess is doing something fresh.

Christ you're retarded. That's like saying MMOs are a ripoff of multiplayer games.

>Beating riot by a week and a half
>Beating Epic by who the fuck knows how long

Smart move

Dota2 is such a horrible intellectual property and Valve's insistence on forcing it down our throats is pathetic. Why haven't these stupid fucks learned their lesson from Artifact?
And the best thing is it doesn't even matter if Underlords is mechanically good, NO ONE IS FUCKING INTERESTED IN DOTA so it will flop, guaranteed, bet the farm on it.

Attached: 1559774223671.jpg (520x520, 55K)

>no one is interested in dota
>literally the one complaint besides ui is the loss of cool transformations and dota voice lines from the mod

Meanwhile in reality...

Attached: oh no no no.jpg (371x316, 46K)

You can't even play this shit. Valve makes it impossible to play their games so I'm just gonna wait till Riot's version comes out and no life it.

When's the League one going to be out?
Tried the mobile version from the original creators and I was not impressed.

>twitch viewer counts
All this proves is the game is new (thus temporarily popular) and/or Valve gave invites to "influencers" with big streams (who will of course drop the game as soon as they can to move on to the next fotm).
Besides, Artifact was initially popular too, and look where it is now.
People like their ASSFAGGOTS and I'll concede that Dota2 is the best of the genre, but that doesn't inherently mean the game's characters/lore are good, creative, or interesting. It's a shitty IP with a one hit wonder keeping it afloat. Face it.

Attached: yjmM5AH[1].png (752x677, 192K)

>he's a lorefag
Yikes. Opinion discarded. Idk about you, but i play games to play games, not read a bunch of boring fictional stories.

Is literally the same mode, except building in the case of Frotnite. Are you retarded?

>only reason artifact failed was because of the ip
retard.

I get that you're probably just playing dumb and trolling for (You)s and I'll give you another, but if you genuinely can't grasp what separates good IPs from bad IPs, well, at least you can say "Yikes!" and "Cringe!" right?

Attached: 1560254590683.jpg (492x478, 82K)

Go ahead and tell us. Go on. Do it.

No, I genuinely couldn't give a shit about the lore. All that matters is aesthetic and gameplay and Dota2 character aesthetics are fine by me. Feel free to provide an argument though, or you could just post dogs and be a passive aggressive faggot.

steamdb.info/app/1046930/graphs/

Also it's been one day and the game already has a better UI on PC, removed cell shading outlines, and named hotkeys. It's all over.

>all that matters is aesthetic and gameplay
This. Again, good lore in games is like good lore in porn movies.

>valve forcing dota down anyone's throat
with artifact i can kinda get it but autochess is litteraly a dota mod that got popular off of it being in the dota 2 client

Attached: 3.jpg (210x240, 20K)

how can people be so wrong about so much

No he isnt you fucking retard, the game was called Hunger Games because of Minecraft before actual games came out and called it Battle Royal. He's not saying anything about the books at all.

Dude, you're suggesting that some blocky game for zoomers is more popular than all the 90s FPS. I could write a 300000 word essay about your retardation only to get a "I was merely pretending to be retarded" as reply, hence the bait pic.

It's a street gang theme. They're probably going to expand on it with comics or other seasonal lore, you play as one of the gang leaders hiring heroes as muscle to take over the city of White Spire.

Attached: underlords.jpg (769x1200, 179K)

Unlike Artifact, it seems that Autochess might work. Altho i would prefer some direct strike-like clone instead.

It is popular that the FFA Arena modes, not the games itself which is absolutely true since you yourself said they were shit and they dont even have a proper name. You done pretending you're retarded yet?

i miss the island aesthetic, being able to see all the boards as part of one big battle looked a lot better than it does right now

>the FFA Arena modes
>dont even have a proper name
How's 2FFA arena" not a proper name? Are you fucking retarded?

>Why haven't these stupid fucks learned their lesson from Artifact
No one needed artifact. No one wanted artifact. The game mechanics were trash. They took too long to make it. And, as cherry on top, it entered an already overcrowded market. Not to mention it doesn't have mobile versions. Dota 2 IP hardly played any role in Artifact failing. Underlords is a fun game, which will be released in a month, has mobile versions and will enter a very new niche. It may not blow up, but I think it can be successful enough to at least facilitate some sort of community around it.

No one know what the fuck a 2FFA is

there are already nature maps in underlords. just unavailable for now because closed beta.

dude autochess was popular on twitch before.
it's been going for months they just moved from mod autochess to standalone autochess
