Crash Team Racing is one of the best cart racers out there purely on the strength of its mechanics. Obviously the game contains plenty of fan service for fans of the Crash series but if you're approaching this only in terms of the gameplay then I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The general DLCs aren’t even priced. They can be grabbed in game by progression. So basically your getting a freebie without doing the work

You don't need to be online to unlock stuff. That makes no sense. You get wumpa coins from doing basically ANYTHING in the game from time trials, to adventure (any variant of it), to on and offline multiplayer. The coins wouldn't need a connection unless you play online and you're granted more coins for winning an online match. The pit stop is also OFFLINE. Why would you need to be online to collect coins so you can buy things in an offline store? Even IF you, by the strangest reason, need to be online to earn wumpa coins, you can still unlock stuff offline.

When it comes to the grand prix, that's different. They can do it in several ways. Like splatoon's splatevents or they could do it as an update. Both would need some form of internet connection for the game to receive the information. If it's a simple update, you wouldn't need online after the update is finished and the GP wrapper would act accordingly. But I guess they go the "splatoon route" were you're connected to a server that is communicating with the GP wrapper and you unlock stuff that way.

The nuts and bolts are just fine. The basic sense of speed and handling are polished, but ordinary.
The game excels in its boost system. Basically you can get three boosts in the middle of any drift by hitting the button at the moment when the meter is charged enough but not overcharged. You also get boosts for airtime.
Chaining together boosts stacks your speed so you can go crazy fast if you know where and when to get your boosts. There's a great skill progression both in terms of pure mechanics but also track mastery.

What's also tricky about boosting from a jump is that you want to jump early from ramps to minimize uphill time, as that is slowing you down.

Most speedruns often do the best racing lines and tech, but 8 player w/ items will screw this over.

The trick to making time pass quickly is to have responsibilities and then do nothing about them.

one of the reasons CTR has managed to stay so relevant all these years later, enough to get a remake like this, is because it had some of the best controls and mechanics in the genre that for some reason were never really replicated elsewhere so no other franchise ate CTRs lunch so to speak
even mario cart plays quite differently, mario used to have the upperhand in other ways were as it was only just really on par with CTRs mechanics, but with this remake that's no longer the case as it has about as much content as any other mario game too
its a definite contender for cart racing game and if you like cart racers you'll like this still fresh take
you may not find it as familiar as a mario game because of your lack of crash knowledge but it should still be fun

Under 100 on the meter = not worth using jump. You are better off using powerslide boosts since at the last tenth when you use powerslide turbo, it builds reserves. Uner 100 on hangtime meter doesnt so you lose sacred flame and get fucked on competite level.

It was obviously scrapped because it gave away too much information and was a distraction from focusing on the feel of the game instead.

There's already a sound cue in the final game that told you how long your reserves are going to last. A high pitched 'turbo' sound would start to play, indicating your boost is about to run out.

If the fur texture on the Switch was not so "caked on" looking and it was more of a solid color orange it might look better than the "HD" fur fluff they insisted on giving him since N.Sane trilogy.

The devs have said you get coins from doing basically anything in the game, so we could assume that includes offline multiplayer. It has already been stated that you get them from adventure mode so I guess that makes sense. They haven't mentioned in any interview that the pit stop is online, so I think it's safe to assume it's offline, or someone would've mentioned "online pit stop" by know. I think it's safe to assume that if the pit stop is offline you wouldn't need online to unlock stuff from it, thus you could probably maybe spend you wumpa coins even when offline. At least hopefully that's the case.

They’re basically just ordinary content releases but for the first few weeks of going live you can only get them via the Grand Prix. After a Grand Prix ends, all it’s content is added to the Pit Stop to be bought with Wumpa Coins. So the PC version will either rerun the GP challenges or they’ll just have everything in the Pit Stop from the beginning. There’s no missable content, GPs basically just let you access exclusive characters and shit before they go into the Pit Stop if you can complete the challenges.

I'm not entirely sure about other countries, but it felt like PS1 was pretty much responsible for changing games from a niche to a widely accepted hobby in the UK.

It also feels like the N64 was far less common a part of that generation of kids growing up than it was in America, which could also explain why Crash and Spyro are so adored over here.

I can't speak for the UK or PS1, but pretty much every person I knew growing up in Ireland who had a console owned a PS2 and nothing else. The only Nintendo console anyone own or cared about was the DS

I only knew a few people with a N64, and I think they all also had a PS1. Nintendo was never that big here outside of the handheld monopoly.
That said nowadays I'm mainly Nintendo, having a PC (and patience) makes everything else a bit unnecessary.

PS1 had lots of relatively high def textures thanks to CDs and being able to swap out them while the game is playing for particularly huge games like FF7, the N64 cartridges only had about 32mb storage so they had to reuse textures a lot and such.
There was also a lot of cope and damage control from Nintendo during that era.
