No matter how much you reuse assets, there's still going to be a wall you hit where the workload involved in bringing everything over is too large a scope to maintain, especially when you consistently add to that scope every three years.

Why now specifically is a valid criticism though, as from what they've shown there doesn't appear to be any significant visible benefit from the lowering of the scope at the moment.

You can't keep supporting content forever while also adding new content regularly without it catching up to you. It had to collapse under its own weight eventually. There's no such thing as infinite manpower and development time, no matter how big the brand is.

UltraSun and UltraMoon had the largest regional Pokedex in the series and on top of that had almost the same amount of Pokemon in it too that existed JUST to support transferal.

Realistically speaking, that is not a feasible model forever.

I don't know if I'm interested in the new game. I don't mind the fact that the national pokédex won't be a thing anymore, I liked trying to complete the regional pokédex in previous games but I could almost never do that anyway because I was playing by myself and barely had anyone who wanted to trade with me. But ever since Sun/Moon the games are just not as charming as they used to be for some reason. Even XY was fun to me because even if it was way too easy, it didn't have technically problems like the shitty framerate in Sun/Moon, it didn't have way too long tutorials, etc. I hope there will be a demo but I don't think I'll get this one. I want a Switch for other games though.

They remove features like Mega Evolution, which, while divisive, did not deserve to be removed. They remove Battle Frontier because "phone games haha." They refuse to fix stuff like Nidoqueen breeding. Can't be arsed to add legendary encounters like the Shaymin and Darkrai ones from D/P. Etc.

Gamefreak is a bad dev and they're out of touch. Just because doing the bare minimum amount of work will still sell millions does not mean I can't be upset with them for phoning it in. There's little passion in what they do.

No, I was disappointed by XY but I could excuse it because they had improved the presentation considerably, I didn't like ORAS at all for removing content, lowering the difficulty with stuff like a free legendary in the middle of the game, and completely destroying the balance. Then they made SM, showing that the lack of polish in gen 6 hadn't been improved, and that they weren't willing to expand in interesting mechanics like Mega Evolution and would rather just have another battle gimmick to market instead. Skipped USUM and LGPE, and I'm certainly not going forgive their laziness anymore. From now on I'll just play fangames and wait for an actual good game.

Definitely not at full price, most of what I've seen doesn't interest me. Maybe when they release the third iteration later down the line. Dynamax is a gimmick, the open world isn't fully realised, the game still tells you every type weakness and actively tries to remove potential difficulty, you level way too quickly and they focus endgame around getting shinies instead of real content. I honestly wouldn't spend more than £20 on this in its current state.

I'd be down for a more focused pokemon game with higher difficulty (need to actually plan teams and swap pokemon out for different gyms), but with only 100 pokemon to catch. They could balance it properly and sell it at $40 as a more pure/classic pokemon game.

I haven't played gen 6 since it released so I decided to replay it. I remember my main issue with it being that by the end I was ridiculously overleveled and OHKOing the entire E4, so I'm taking precautions to avoid that now. Apart from the difficulty, what didn't people like about it?

I played X and thought it was garbage. Then I played Omega Ruby, and thought it was worse than Emerald. I didn't even play Sun and Moon, or Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and I heard they were garbage too. Is there any reason for me to expect anything different from these games, or will Game Freak continue to prove they are incompetent and lazy.
