1. Tifa’s appeal has been her being doggedly at Cloud’s side
2. Aerith and Cloud should hit it off quickly and easily, as should the okayer and her, due to her being on borrowed time
3. Maybe they worked in Aerith first more because she was one of the original 3 and overall more important tk the plot (especially in the early parts we call Disc 1)

The eyes are the central focus of the shot and the character's face, of course you would be looking at them. The shade of the eye, especially with unnaturally sharp angles on the eye shape are jarring.

There are two things in particular I really love about this moment from the trailer:
1. The way it's shot: The stool separating Cloud and Tifa. This alone indicates the personal space both have unconsciously established, and mixes in nicely with the unspoken words between the two ("Words aren't the only way to yadda yadda"): Cloud is using his drink to establish a metaphorical barrier, and Tifa sits alone, head down as she wrestles with her inner conflicts. The fact that they are one stool apart from each other means that they are close enough to want to support one another, but don't have the courage to cross that threshold. Instead, Cloud can only lend an ear without providing the emotional solace that Tifa wants, and Tifa herself isn't confident enough to get closer (figuratively and literally) to Cloud.
2. The conversation is also a significant change to the original: in the original game, Tifa would delicately pry into Cloud's thoughts, arguably as a means of flirting but more likely a way to learn more about him (or rather, try to gauge what he thinks he knows). This makes up the bulk of Tifa's role in the story as it intertwines with Cloud's, something I've never had a problem with. However, I always did share the criticisms that we never got much focus on Tifa's own isolated thoughts and problems. She has every reason to hate Sephiroth as much as Cloud does, but it comes up maybe once. She questions whether the actions she and her AVALANCHE comrades are having the opposite effect of their intentions, and it only comes up once. In this new scene, she is explicitly discussing the latter, revealing her increasing doubts about the violent actions of her group. This has nothing to do with Cloud...it is entirely Tifa dealing with her own agency.

I can easily see them doing that because in the original game it’s not explored much past Midgar until disc 2 and already had the required set up to buy it. 7 works for me because it does not need to be overt about everything unlike later entries.

This would be neat and an obvious area they could expand. Make her feel so integral that you dread knowing her fate.

Everything was always Cloud this and Cloud that with her, like her universe revolved around him, which I suppose is appealing to waifufags. However there are a number of things with her that were just never explored. For example, why did she join AVALANCHE? I could believe it was just for a chance to meet Cloud again, but I'd rather it had nothing to do with Cloud.

I dunno if I'd say they themselves are less generic moreso than how their archetypes work. That is, as you said, FF tends to use a variation of: demure girl, genki girl, mature girl in general. The demure girl would typically be the white mage while the mature girl would be the monk, but they switched it up. That said, Tifa is still pretty similar to Rosa, the definitive 'demure girl', so I think only Aerith was more unique. And hopefully she still is, rather than what everything since has portrayed her as.
