Just because a character isn't white doesn't mean that they were "forced in" or are there for "no reason". White characters never have to have a reason to exist. White characters are never forced in.

You can easily tell when they're forced in and when they aren't.
How can you tell?
How stupid are you, OP?
White is considered default because the games are primarily made by and for white people.
It's like Japanese games usually feature Japanese characters, unless the "have a reason" like wanting the game to be set in Europe or America for some reason. But the same can be said for western games, nobody thinks that Creative Assembly forced the Chinese characters into the newest Total War or the Japanese character into Ghost of Tsushima.
How much of a retard does one have to be to not understand this?
When their character revolves around their skin color.
>I'm black! I shoot niggas in the face and call everyone a nigger! Cause I'm black!
The same is true of homosexuals and lesbians. When their character is their color/sexual preference, it's forced in.
But when the character doesn't revolve around how different they are, people say that they're there for no reason.
No I understand that. But if a white game developer decides to have a black character in their game, why do we say that they were forced in?
Remember when people got mad because they didn't see why this character needed to be gay? As if gays need to constantly justify their existence?
>setting is reminscent of medieval Europe
>non-white characters who aren't just travelling merchants in a port city
There's 3 kinds of characters:
>Good, well-written characters who have a real personality and feel like they belong in that story
>Bad characters (muh diversity, muh gay, muh quirky, etc. things that take a portion of their character too far just because of whatever the developer's agenda is)
>Garbage characters (bland, boring, dry characters who have no real personality and aren't designed to actually be simple, they just are simple)
But how would you even get the idea to have a nigger there? There must be some kind of thought process behind it, thus the "reason".
If I was making a normal squad based shooter or an RPG with a party system, I wouldn't have even thought about having anything other than white characters in it. Not because I hate other races, but because I don't normally think about them.
I really don't understand what's with white Americans and that excessive love of the negroid race. Do you constantly just think about niggers and Asians?
Nobody likes looking at grotesque darkies. The only way to show that you're not part of the globalhomo agenda is to not put ugly darkies in your games, otherwise, it's assured that you're part of it.
Maybe the game developer was basing characters off of his own friends and that black character happened to be based off of a black friend of his. Maybe the character was loosely based off of an Asian historical figure. Who knows? It just puzzles me why any character who isn't a Straight White Male TM has to have a specific reason to exist.
It was never like that until after Gamergate.
Now every subsequent "western" or games that appeal to them with a female or black protag is now considered pandering to SJWs due to the now political climate.
Naughtydog and ESPECIALLY Ubisoft cater to that particular demographic for goodboy points.
>As if gays need to constantly justify their existence?
But they don't. You can't justify something unjustifiable.
That's what I've noticed. Before 2015, any SJWisms in video games appeared without backlash. Nowadays, a black character can't even go back in time to free slaves without people speeding out.
Forced diversity quota characters are really easy to spot, they have the most bland personality imaginable because the writers/devs don’t want to piss off landwhales on twitter with “ whitewashing attitude”
I recently played gears and I notice how much I like cole instead of del because Del was the run of the mill token black while cole was an actual human being.
I like sergeant Johnson from halo, idris Elba, lee everrett etc because someone actually had an idea with putting character into them. It doesn’t help that the ideologues only think “ whoa black character is in, idgaf about their personality, their skin and representation yass slay” companies pander to nowadays
It's all about setting and suspension of disbelief. A black teen girl who's a genius computer hacker and inventor is forced in. A female soldier in a game about WWII is forced in. Black people in a game about medieval Europe are forced in.
When games companies finally tap the market of historical settings like the Khmer or Mughal Empires, or make RPG games about African tribal myths, nobody's going to be complaining that there are no white people in them. Nobody's going to care about muh diversity then.
Games companies don't shoehorn inappropriate diversity in because they particularly care about muh representation. They do it so they can get free advertising, publicity, and virtue points from the clickbait games media.
a)San Andreas was about nigs being nigs and yet Yea Forums loves it.
b)One dimensional characters have existed for ages and nobody cared. Yea Forums loves TTGL and there's a tranny character who shoves his mental illness in everybody's face.
>White characters never have to have a reason to exist. White characters are never forced in.
That's because games are mostly made by white people. If non-white people were making games about non-white countries and settings then yes, white characters would be forced if they appeared in those games.
There's absolutely no reason for white people to appear in a videogame adaptation of the movie Apocalypto, or a game about Kung Fu masters in an ancient Chinese dynasty. They would appear very out of place and would need a pretty good reason for their presence.
>That's because games are mostly made by white people.
Don't you guys normally complain that games suck now because studios full of diversity hires and everyone is a "tranny" ?
So are they made by white people or are they made by diversity hires?
perhaps it's just time to admit you're racist.
but people complain about forced diversity in games that take place in the modern day, that time loop game was shat on immediately for having two black protagonists
>strawman
>buzzword at the end
Hello tumblr, lost? Do you know where you are?
>a)San Andreas was about nigs being nigs and yet Yea Forums loves it.
>A game about niggers has niggers
That's correct. But here's what I mean:
>A game about killing zombies has a nigger whose entirely personality is "I rap and I like to beat up zombies"
Not a very flagrant example and he was actually pretty fun, but it just feels randomly shoved in there when the rest of the cast is whites, Hawaiians and similar, and a single Asian girl.
>TTGL
The character was literally designed to be a mentally-off fruitcake. And it's not constantly shoved in your face, it's successfully used as a bit of comic relief.
>racist
>buzzword
What.
You know it’s a buzzword. Stop pretending
When the devs virtue signal about the importance of diversity on twitter
>As if gays need to constantly justify their existence?
considering they are but 3% of the population and yet 50% of the AIDS diagnosis, yes they do need to justify their existence.
No the fuck it isn't, you brainwashed psyop-spoonfed fucking baby NPC. Fuck you, and stop being racist
>randomly shoved in
I mean in a regular American town or something they wouldn't feel out of place. One-dimensional characters exist everywhere and I don't see why minorities would be immune to it. If you're going for something like medieval Europe I can see the complaints but Yea Forums will complain if they see one pixel of dark skin in a Compton game nowadays.
>comic relief
I suppose that's a fair point. A better example would be Tekkaman Blade, which also has a trans character but with more screen time than TTGL's and played more seriously (kind of). I still liked it and I've seen other based anons recommend it.
>Don't you guys normally complain that games suck now because studios full of diversity hires
Most of us don't give a shit who makes the games as long as they're good. Most of us don't give a shit about diversity in games as long as it's not propaganda. Nobody cared about the tranny characters in Watch Dogs 2 because they were well written and fit the setting appropriately.
But if games companies are hiring incompetent people over competent people just because of their skin color or what sex they pretend to be, then that's going to be a problem isn't it. As Bioware and Ubisoft have made abundantly clear in the last few years.
If you play Bioware and Ubisoft games from 10 years ago VS the ones from this year and last year, you'll notice a MARKED decrease in quality of dialogue, mechanics, and story, Everyone complained about AC Unity when it came out, but compared to AC Odyssey it was a fucking masterpiece. Same with ME3 and ME Andromeda.
"forced in" is just a small symptom of bad writing, the characters become obvious when they open their mouths and its revealed their whole identity is being a minority, take for example the stereotype of the strong sassy black woman with an afro, in most games that she's in you already know how she will behave and act since that's everything there is to her. Tell me how many minorities are in modern games that have major flaws or are villains in their respective games. Writers usually give them a one dimensional personality because they don't want to risk backlash, making the game's quality suffer at the end.
People didn't have a problem in the past with these type of characters since they had other personality traits that identified them, like Rodin from Bayonetta.
>Not a very flagrant example and he was actually pretty fun, but it just feels randomly shoved in there when the rest of the cast is whites, Hawaiians and similar, and a single Asian girl.
I think he was written in pretty convincingly. He was a one-hit-wonder doing shit DJ jobs in resorts. I expect they wanted a burly Ving Rhames type black guy in the game and had to figure out a way of writing him in. Compared to the rest of muh diversity characters he is a pretty good one that doesn't stretch suspension of disbelief at all.
If he'd been a 17 year old streetwise black girl and a genius nuclear physicist who can make robotic suits of armor from scrap... That is pretty different.
What I find telling about the whole race debocle in vidya is that Yea Forums LOVES to scream about it with zero context to ANY specifics of when, where, why and how a female or darkie character is loudly proclaiming about their skin tone, sexuality, and/or "stronk indepedant womanness".
Retardson here flipped their shit when a character named "She-MAD" in Watch_Dogs 2 was revealed to be, I think, Genderfluid or some shit, and raised absolute hell about it until the game came out. She was only in the game for 1, count it, 1(ONE) mission, then never showed up again. She behaved like a asshole lesbian cunt and that's all she was.
I think at one point they tried going after Fury from Flopsiders 3 for pandering to feminists because of sometough "better than the boys" badass attitide based of ff the fucking reveal trailer. And no I'm not defending western games and their ugo female designs, I'm critisizing the rabid mouth breathing teen /pol/tards and faggots comfortable turning this shithole into a stealth /pol/ containment board.
tl;dr I AM SILLY
the developers being insufferable sjw's. how do you know if they're sjw? they'll virtue signal
>How can you tell?
One good example is by which country made it and in what setting it plays. If there's a game taking part in China it should feature a lot of Chinese, if it's set in Japan it should feature a lot of Japanese. If it's in Poland or Middle-Ages Germany/UK it's kinda normal to have 99.9% white characters. If it takes place in Africa or Modern day Detroit it probably makes sense to have a large amount of Black people in it.
Almost nobody will bitch about a studio from Africa trying to make a game set in a Fantasy African setting with all black people: store.steampowered.com
Similarly most people will accept something like San Andreas, where you get problems is when the story is about King Arthur or the Aztec period or Ancient Egypt or whatever and the entire cast is MultiKult, it's pretty obvious there's an agenda behind that.
>Maybe the game developer was basing characters off of his own friends
Do you think that this sounds like good writing?
>black character happened to be based off of a black friend of his
Why can't he make a character with those characteristics without having it look like him? I mean, in this case it would obviously have been fine unless it would've been contextually unfitting like if the game had a medieval setting where no equivalent of a negroid race exists in the lore.
> Maybe the character was loosely based off of an Asian historical figure
Again, you can a make a character that is loosely based on Nobunaga without it actually being an Asian. Just as you could make a black Hitler in a game where that would seem plausible.
>t just puzzles me why any character who isn't a Straight White Male TM has to have a specific reason to exist.
Now you're reverting back to a retard. The whole discussion is about the default and obviously everything that strays from it must have some kind of rationale.
Now the reasoning behind having a character not be of the same culture or race as the designing team can be good or bad. An Asian character that's in the game because the developers wanted something like a Shao lin monk or a Yakuza member is naturally fine. However having an Asian peasant in an otherwise normal and authentic medieval European village would be considered forced.
For a painfully obviously example of this just look at Troy by Netflix. Why is half the cast black? Could they not find any remotely Greek looking ones? While much of the cast of the older Troy movie could also be criticized for not looking Greek enough, it can't be blame on the same reason as that production just used "normal" actors for the country making it, instead of going out of their way to make it "diverse".
Pretty much. If you subscribe to the kind of thought that a minority exists = forced, then you just see white as the default when there is no real reason for it to be that way.
what games do this and claim to be historically accurate?
If you make a WW2 game and the Axis side has Black Womyn with Prosthetics, chances are you probably took a wrong turn somewhere.
...
From 2014 onwards, after the fappening and the faGGotry combined, nu-/pol/tards (Or I guess I should just call them "/pol/tards", because they are the new status quo of that poor board) always bitch about "forced diversity".
What is "forced diversity"? Simple. Every single game with a black person in it is "forced diversity", unless
A) It was released before /pol/tards started contaminating this board (GTA: San Andreas which would be shitposted mercilessly if it came out today)
B) It's an Eastern game (It's okay when Japan does it)
It's that simple. They always have some excuse as to why this one video game in particular that they're currently bitching about is "forced diversity", either it's because the black person is too stereotypical or too unrealistic. Whatever excuse lets them spam "WE" memes in video game threads works. But they're not the problem. They're just a boogeyman. Remember that. Remember that when they start arguing endlessly about off-topic shit like how niggers are inferior or trannies are mentally ill or refugees are rapists or some other shit like that. They're just a boogeyman. Those off-topic posts you're seeing shitting up this board aren't real.
Don't bother. You can never find reason when a minority character who brings up their background at all and one that doesn't bring it up at all is both "forcing an agenda".
Good taste in anime, to be sure.
You're probably right, I'm probably just being a bit of a fag about it.
Culture thing.
Spawn is black but no one really cared cause he doesn't try to speak jive or fight for black causes that were settles ages ago. But black chick from wolfenstein 2 was a walking stereotype that couldn't stop preaching to main character. There is global culture and then there is gangs and subcultures no one likes.
Don't know about that I really like Lamar in GTA5. Franklin was the wrong protagonist.
following lamar around as he became a true player would have been a superior gta
based
What are some (good) games where you play as a skeleton?
It's more of the fact that blizz made a huge deal and announcement about it. Like it is a big deal that tracer is a dyke.
Same with them going soldier 76 likes it up the butt too randomly.
I honestly don't care but what annoys me is how they make a big deal about the sexuality of a fictional character. Also the fact that they choose to make the tomboy character tracer gay to me just shows a lack of creativity. If you where to ask any older men to point out the gay girls from the OW line up based on look they would point out tracer and zarya.
...
Don't need a new thread this one is fine
I mean yeah I agree with you op
But there's something wrong about it when I saw black character in video games its gonna be the same "I'm black lesbean womans and I hate straight white male brah brah" its just feel bland, boring I mean there should be reasons why this character is lesbean, hate white. What's their reasons? What their back story?.
>Based
You fucked it and made a cancerous shit thread.
That anons here
see
it has become a buzzword when me just existing means I'm racist or I can't be discriminated against based on my skincolor cause I'm white. And don't go around saying that isn't the case cause there are plenty of blacks screaming "all white people are racist" and "racism against white people doesn't exist"
>That anons here
>I'm only one of those (You)s
HMM. What did shitposter-tan mean by this?
it all depends on the setting, no-one is going to complain if a game about say factory workers in detroid during the crisis has a lot of black characters in it.
Same with say a game set in africa during any period.
But a black character in say medieval europe that isn't a traveling merchant sailing the mediterranean sea is obviously forced in. A chinese character would be exactly the same with perhaps maybe an embassador in byzantium being the expection.
For this exact reason people would complain if there suddenly was a germanic warlord you could choose from in the new TW three kingdoms, as he has absolutely no place to be there.
they are ugly, uninteresting, and/or have no flaws
mary sues
>Do you think that this sounds like good writing?
Could be. Most writers base the characters somewhat off of actual people. What's the issue with that?
>Why can't he make a character with those characteristics without having it look like him?
Why not? Does he have to make the character white just to make you comfy?
>Again, you can a make a character that is loosely based on Nobunaga without it actually being an Asian.
But why would someone do that? If someone made a character based off of Nobunga, why would they make him a white guy?
>he doesn't try to speak jive
What would be wrong with that though? That's how a lot of black people speak.
It's like the difference between being talked to vs being TALKED AT.
One is just happening and the other is trying to "teach you something".
Hermione being a nigger and Dumbledore being gay are unjustified and forced
