How do you not get angry when practicing Fighting Games

The satisfaction and feeling of mastery at the end is always worth it but, how can I minimize getting mad? (Other than gitting gud)

Learn why you lost.

If you're older than sixteen, then cognitive behavioral therapy

I already know I lose because of lack of experience. Frankly, it’s never an angry situation to lose except when it’s someone annoying.

You have to play a fighter you actually like. Then the archtype of the character you are choosing to learn must mesh with you. You have to have an extremely good grasp of the system mechanics and to cut it short you need to fight the actual opponent than the game. I could never get into anime and marvel because I fought against the system mechanics and long combos too much and when I played other more traditional fighters I found it more fun and easier to understand. If you truly like fighters an L after a close game will still feel good but the second you feel helpless and frustrated its over. Understand its okay get upset after losing but if you find yourself getting irrationally upset you are missing a key element to compete with other players or its not your type of fighter. I thought I didn't like fighters anymore until I really made an effort to find my game.

Smoke weed dude.

because seeing visible improvement is always super satisfying
to reduce anger I choose to see each loss as a learning experience
Realize why I lost and try to stop doing that in the future.
It also helps to get in the mindset that your losses are your own and only you are to blame for them

I only get mad when I don’t perform up to my expectations. And that only happens when I set unrealistic expectations for myself, or if I regress in skill due to a lack of practice. Setting unrealistic expectations often comes from understanding how to counter something in theory, while lacking the hands-on experience to deal with it in a real scenario, yet having fooled myself into believing that I do have that experience in order to satisfy my ego. Knowing this can help reduce anger, but it never fully goes away. At least not for me. There will always be that part of me after ever loss saying, “how did you get hit by that unga shit? You should know better.”

I want to have kids with Lilith

Not fighting games but as someone that spent over 2000 hours trying to master one VERY pvp oriented type of gameplay, here's what I learned!

1) Take breaks!
2) Try and put yourself in the other player's shoes
3) Realize that the moment you get even a little angry, it's a downfall from there on and it's not going away until you take a break
4) Don't blame yourself for being bad, don't blame the other player for playing like a bitch (even if he absolutely does play like a bitch)
5) Seek to learn, not to win.
6) Be humble

Who do you think is going places? The dude that gets beat up and takes notes, or the angry one shouting at his TV and making excuses?

7) (BONUS) Try meditation.

This is actually not a bait post. I play like almost 3x better high but thats with only MMOs and fightan for some odd reason. Playing platfomers baked makes me play like I'm missing both thumbs.

How's fps on weed? The best FPS player I know is a fucking pothead but he started playing super early, so there's that.

>playing Tekken with stoner friend
>kicking his ass
>hear him take a massive rip
>can smell the bong juice through the mic
>he god rounds me multiple times

Fucked weed dude

Back when I was good at quake and practicing regularly with a bunch of decent good cpm players all of them were regurlarly smoking during casual practice matches and going fucking insane. They never went and pulled some crazy big brain move or anything but they would get really consistent with their rails and air rockets. It felt like playing against aimbotters.

>how can I minimize getting mad?
This isn't the genre for you.

Fuck. I really don't want to believe it. I don't want to get into weed.
But what is it, is it the CBD or the THC that helps?
I can legally get CBD (and easily get THC).

This

I used to have a good friend that was AMAZING at fps game and he was a pothead I didn't even smoke back then and it really fucked with me with how good he was with a drug that supposedly inhibits you.

I think personally it takes away nerves. Without it I get AA'd once and can't even think right with how upset I get. High I'll just AA super on reaction kek.

The reason it helps some people is because it calms them down and lets them focus. It's completely unnecessary if you simply put in the effort to master your emotions and learn how to focus without the drug.

Does it help if I'm trying to do something like rocketjumping? Solo server, no stakes etc, I'm not sure if I'm nervous.

who knows. I haven’t exactly done a scientific study but I feel like it’s mostly a result of being calmed down and being completely absorbed into the game without distraction, which weed would help a lot with.
I don’t smoke though so I can’t really say for sure

Thc man, you'll thank us later. Not gonna lie I play much better when I'm stoned.
Also comfy games are more comfy after a couple hits

If by rocket jumping you mean general defrag stuff then I would imagine so. Defrag is already an almost trance-like process when you’ve been going at it for long enough so I feel like weed or something similar would amplify that sort of concentration

If you're struggling with execution that's more of a muscle memory thing, and weed won't help you with that. If anything it'll just make you get bored of the practice and kill your motivation.

Thanks, guess it's time to hit the cbd shop down the street then.
It's not really muscle memory, it's more that I'm trying to execute something that's hard to grasp to begin with. I've been trying to do said thing for a little over ~300 hours now and it's getting demotivating.

Don't look to far into the drug I can personally tell you that it doesn't fuck with you as much as you would think. Its honestly not really apparent unless its like right after a session or something. It not a complete absorption but it keeps you focused by not letting your personal peeves and emotions break your concentration, well in my case.

It really does help for some reason, fast paced games like Marvel and Guilty Gear kind of get slowed down in your head, it becomes much easier to spot your own mistakes and bad habits, and those of the opponent. It also turns a dropped combo from "FUCK he should have DIED" to "whatever let's go for a reset". It also makes blocking patiently for 20 seconds seem kind of comfy rather than frustrating, like you're more satisfied with denying your opponent a confirm than you are frustrated with being stuck in the corner.

Instead of smoking weed, do mindfulness meditation. You can probably find shit on how to do it and guided sessions for free on YouTube or with a google search

Nah it depends on the person
i myself get worse when high while some of my friends pop off when high

>How do you not get angry
I don't get angry really but I get fucking BORED out of my mind putting together combos in the training room. 6 or 7 hours labbing is fucking chore and I hate it with a fiery passion. It's beyond worth it tho when you go online and start bodying babies. Online I never get mad when I lose because if I do I usually deserved it and realize it when rewatching the replay
