I keep hearing this from the Vidya industry, but are consoles going to move to a purely streaming service like stadia rather than being hardware based?
Last generation of consoles?
Uncle Phil told Jeff Gerstmann that they're not planning on Scarlett being the last console they make.
>streaming service like stadia rather than being hardware based?
That would imply the majority of America having decent internet in the next 5-7 years which obviously ain't happening.
Who the fuck did you hear that from?
There is 0% chance of that happening.
That idea is so fucking stupid it actually made me angry.
Tell me who told you this.
YouTube videos and game magazine articles.
Ubisoft's CEO said he figures it's one last generation then all streaming.
Such as?
I could see it being a possibility in 5+, but not in one.
>streaming only
Good thing I'm pretty much PC only already. Streaming only games is the dumbest fucking thing and there isn't one benefit to the consumer from doing this.
>the vast majority of people still buy physical even though digital has been a standard for a decade
>streaming only consoles happening any time soon with the shit internet that the USA still have
except for the part where you can play games anywhere with internet without having to buy a console or PC
I'd say it's 50/50. Every generation the difference gets smaller as technological progress slows down. Not to mention most devs don't even have the budget to push current hardware to its limits, let alone what's coming out next.
PS5/Xtwo games will literally be current gen stuff at higher FPS and resolution. I wouldn't be surprised if cross gen stuff releases for 3+ years. Where do you go when graphical and technological progress has mostly reached its limits? You look for other ways to draw people in and streaming might be that.
I mean consoles still have a pretty big gap before they hit the average gaming PC level, so why would they stop here?
>>the vast majority of people still buy physical even though digital has been a standard for a decade
sony only numbers are 60/40 physical/digital with digital numbers rising rapidly. pc physical sales don't even exist.
Is that why gamestop is on its deathbed?
>>the vast majority of people still buy physical even though digital has been a standard for a decade
Thats because people want to know that if they buy a game, and for some reason they dont like it, they can just sell it forward. You cant do that with digital copies.
Gamestop is on its deathbed because amazon exists
Wouldn't this be a good thing? No more outdated hardware holding developers back for 5 year stretches.
imagine how jewish developers are going to have to get when nobody actually buys theyre games anymore and instead just subscribe to cheap streaming subscriptions
99% of developers can't even push the current gen consoles to their limits let alone next gen.
streaming literally cannot work properly.
It is impossible to compensate for latency.
consoles will never die
