Can we agree Smash 4 had the absolute worst artstyle in any Nintendo game? 5 years later it still pisses me off.
Can we agree Smash 4 had the absolute worst artstyle in any Nintendo game? 5 years later it still pisses me off
Brawl looked worse
64 > Brawl > Melee > Ultimate > 4
I feel like that one assist trophy is cherrypicking.
>Can we agree Smash 4 had the absolute worst artstyle in any Nintendo game?
absolutely fucking not. the lighting engine however was indeed too flat
Melee>Brawl>>>Ultimate>>>>>>>Tr4sh
Not listing 64 because polygons arent textures
honestly yes
90 percent of the veterans just got a fresh coat of super vivid paint and a few more polygons, and in the case of some of these characters, ESPECIALLY all of the zelda characters, this ended up looking terrible
and the lighting is just horrid, on some stages it looks really flat and boring and on some they just turned rim-lighting up to max which looks disgusting, like pic related
Literally the only image fags have against Brawl, ESam used it, fucking reddit uses it, you know what? It's getting old.
>muh realism
Fuck off. The whole point of a crossover is having the characters in their iconic appearances. Trying to force them into some ugly unified “realistic” art style was always a terrible move.
It is my favorite. I liked 3's too
But what made Brawl so charming was the fact that as different as all these characters are, they're part of the full experience.
This. When they add Isaac, I fully expect to see that psuedo-claymation pre-rendered pixellated style character used in the battle screens in the Golden Sun games, complete with mode-7 translucent particle effects on the psynergy, and SNES-level anime-inspired summons for the Final Smash.
>ooga booga muh accuracy
Yeah, and apparently Smash shouldn't have it's own identity, right?
Ultimate > Brawl > Melee > 64 > 4
smash 4 is the best looking smash ge
Dude, how?
every screenshot of brawl is ugly there is no cherry picking
>Assist trophy
You joke, but Ness's new PSI effects actually use the effects from Earthbound. Same for Lucas.
You're unpleasable.
Compare him to someone like Dr. Wright and you will see a stark difference, no excuses for this
Not joking, I think it would be pretty sweet to see those high-end GBA effects in action again, and would better fit the character than recreating him from scratch with "modern" aesthetics.
>prerendered cutscene
>looks like shit anyway
at least 4 has soul
That's how lighting behaves on a sphere. Also, it's more intense in this stage because it's in space.
>4
>soul
Are you kidding me!
I don't think it's controversial to say that 4 is the only soulless smash game.
4 and Ultimate.
The original is also lacking in the soul department.
Melee and Brawl are kino though.
All of the characters in Brawl looked perfectly fine in the artstyle.
4 is an oversaturated mess and numerous characters suffer because of this, like Captain Falcon, Ryu, and ALL of the Zelda characters.
all characters look better on the right
Exactly, it's almost as if people who defend it think Nintendo is all Mario and Kirby, which wouldn't suprise me. Even the cartoon characters looked like shit though, especially Toon Link, which admittedly already had it bad in Brawl.
God Toon Link looks so out of place in Brawl's artstyle. His hair also looks out of place with the rest of his clothes.
t. Zoomer
At least the substitute doll looked nice.
im still confused why they didnt give bowser JR his paint brush he had in mario sunshine
instead they gave him projectiles, traps, and the stupid fucking clown car
Can we agree that Smashfags are literal retards and don't deserve smash? They get fucking gaming icons like the Dragon Quest protags and just complain about "waaah wash not another anime sword fighter!" But then get legit excited when a fucking bear no one has cared about since the N64 gets in like seriously?
>defending brawl
>calling someone else a zoomer
dumb?
Ultimate > 4 > Melee > 64 > Brawl
Brawl is literally NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN tier
Toon Link is the only character that looks objectively bad in Brawl. Hell, I feel he didn't even look right until Ultimate.
"WHY ISN'T SMASH REALISTIC"
Fuck off retard
Brawl looks the worst
Melee still has a semi-cartoony art style and bright colors
The only character that looked REALLY bad in 4 was Ganondorf
Brawl is peak boomer.
4 is Minecraft Fortnite Zoomer.
is it just me or is the contrast in smash ultimate completely fucked? I feel like I can't see squirtle at all in any stage that has water as a background.
Also omega forms of moving stages like umbral tower, f-zero, or mario kart 8 circuit are impossible to see on while things are moving around. I don't know what changed
>Brawl is peak boomer.
Yeah, but Toon Link is a more "serious" cartoon character, so his artstyle in Brawl is somewhat justified, though I will agree it looks weird.
But Smash 4 just makes everyone look like a Fortnite character.
>like a Fortnite character
what does that even mean
is "Fortnite" the new "soul/soulless"
The original has a sort of slapstick soul the later games don't have, from the silly anime sound effects to the variety of audience cheers, like close save gasps and explosion golf-claps, plus the fact that it's low poly but runs at 60fps, smash 64 has plenty of soul
Hold the fuck back, everyone.
No Smash Bros. character shall be as ugly as this abomination.
People who call the Hero an anime swordsman are both too correct (toriyama) and too retarded (most unique moves of any sword character). The real reason people have a complex with anime swordsment is because Fire Emblem characters before Robin were all fucking clones of eachother, and now they cloned a clone, we now have 4 Marths, five if you think Ikes big sword is not different (retard).
Don't diss my fucking bear and bird faggot.
Yeah, it literally is.
Brawl represents the Newgrounds Yea Forums 90s/2000s retro generation, while 4 represents the Minecraft Fortnite Twitter 2010s generation.
You're a Zoomer, so I wouldn't expect you to have any knowledge of pre-2010s culture.
>brawl is peak boomer
>old smash games exist
yeah, fuck off based retard
Melee Ganondorf
64 DK
You're the biggest retard on Yea Forums right now
Paint brush is his final smash, friend
brawl is absolutely fucking disgusting looking
it looks like dogshit
>Smash 4 just makes everyone look like a Fortnite character
Go outside
When has Banjo been relevant since nuts and bolts
wow what a retarded fucking picture "differentiating smash bros from mario" is a fucking worthless quality to have if the game looks like shit, which is what you get when you put realistic textures on fucking mario
>No Smash Bros. character shall be as ugly as this abomination
This was in a game released in 2000.
Maybe because people who make ripoff kite demos are smart enough to use the good models instead of some shit they found on Gmod.
what the fuck are you talking about, brawl didn't come out until 2008?
Did you mean Melee? Did you forget Melee existed?
Melee is also boomer.
I don't mean to say that only one Smash game is boomer.
Here is how it breaks down:
64, Melee, Brawl: Boomer
4, Ultimate: Zoomer
There you go. Hope that helps!
Thanks for calling me based!
No, once the whole "look how detailed and realistic the charactes are" first impression wears off, brawl just looks ugly and unnecessarily dark, not to mention every character is far more expressive in 4, and of course Ultimate too.
this
>64 released in 1999
>Melee released in 2001
>This was in a game released in 2000
what did he mean by this
DK doesnt look bad for being as low poly as he is.
smash 64 is one of the only 64 games to run at 60fps, even super mario 64 was only 30.
Brawl looks fucking ugly, especially when compared to first-party Nintendo titles released on the Wii. Literally soulless art style next to Mario Galaxy, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and DKCR.
>far more expressive in 4
they cut a lot of what brawl had from 4 for the 3ds release, it's the most obvious with toon link and sonic, Ultimate fixed it.
no games have had shock-skeletons since 64
>DK doesnt look bad for being as low poly as he is
When has K Rool been revelant since 64, if the shitty sports game counts then the HD releases should too
When has fucking Captain Falcon been relevant since GX?
The paintbrush that he used in one mainline game is his final smash.
After this, in Galaxy 1 and 2, he was put into a role with more of a commander/techy edge.
The Kid Koopa Klown Kar, which has been his big thing since NSMBWii in mainline as well as in the RPGs alongside MP9 and 10, made up his core moveset.
The paintbrush is exclusively a GCN era Junior thing.
When has Captain Falcon been relevant since GX?
Yeah, and 2008-2009 were the last breaths of "underground retro" culture on the Internet.
Melee was also retro, but what makes Brawl special is that it represented a final attempt to maintain the soul of pre-2010s culture in a show of defiance against the growing forces of what would become 2010s/Zoomer culture.
Melee was a product of its time, but Brawl was a rebel.
They messed up his signature hair style, hurting his identity. There were better ways to do that model.
so which ones are millenial, since boomer makes no fucking sense in this context, I don't know anyone in their 50s playing smash when it first came out
yeah, and dk64 ran at such a shitty framerate, the game had to literally increase your characters move speed when the game lagged, just to fool people into thinking it was playable.
K Rool is from Donkey Kong which is still getting releases and Captain Falcon is only in because he's part of the original roster
If you actually go and replay Brawl, it looks pretty shit. I used to wonder why Wii U looked "less realistic" but the only example was Mario's denim.
>expressive
>smash 4
chose one, retard. Smash 4 is one of the most woodfaced games by Nintendo.
absolutely based, smash 4 also had more expressions to characters like dedede
Original roster so he gets to stay in
Brawl had a disgusting white filter over everything.
Also every character felt more heavy and sluggish than in melee
This is Yea Forums. Boomer here means anyone born in the 20th century (even though lots of Zoomer cancer were born in the 90s).
I obviously meant millennials, as they are 90s kids, but we don't use that word because it has connotations that go beyond that.
>melee above anything
kek
I don't agree dude, I think Brawl came out just after that all ended. Besides, you're also forgetting that 2004-2010 was peak Bro-Gamer time
this. 4 looks better than ultimate. i'm assuming the downgrade is due to handheld mode
>and bright colors
Huh? No, Mario with denim overalls and such was already in Melee. It just lacked the fake shading using textures. Heck, characters like Yoshi and Bowser are actually more colorful in Brawl.
We're talking about artstyles, faggot, not the mechanics of Brawl.
Brawl was soulless.
More expressive characters > denim
i'm just gonna say this, i think smash 4 is dumb fun
the word you're looking for is millenial, anyone who grew up with the snes/genesis console war and hit teens between the ps1 and the gamecube
boomers are literally the grandparents of the entire demo you're talking about
I have a slightly different timeline, although our perceptions are skewed by our own observations.
I think the end started around 2006/2007, but the TRUE end i.e. the point of no return was in 2010. In 2008 and 2009 you still had some elements of old-school culture, Caramelldansen was all the rage, and Newgrounds and Ebaums World were on their last legs.
It was around that point that what used to be the main atmosphere started becoming counterculture, but 2010 killed even that.
WOW IT'S ALMOST LIKE THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT OF SMASH BROS
Looks like soul to me
Why not both? It's just a texture, probably the same size. Sure, Dedede is expessive in Smash 4, the rest though? Not so much.
>Brawl had a disgusting white filter over everything.
did you even read his post or were you too triggered by yet another person rightfully shitting on brawl's gameplay
Yeah that's the technical definition, but here we use Boomer more as a meme. Millennial conjures up associations with Buzzfeed and vaping and manbuns.
I think brawl has more in common with the new era coming in than the last one going out but I guess we're down to opinions
Thanks for the great image user, but this is about how shitty Smash 4 is.
The dude you're replying to has never played 64, don't waste your breath
i think ultimate's artstyle looks great but the one exception to that is when you're playing on battlefield
why is the lighting on this stage so fucking bad compared to every other stage in the game
More
so then what, millenial gamers are the silent unspoken generation? Fuck that, I didn't catch shit for eating avocado toast and not being able to pick up the pieces of the 2008 recession just to get swept under the rug because Yea Forums is stupid.
You know what's a boomer game? The original Elite
Because the core of slapstick and "Cartoonish violence" is expressiveness.
Wow, great literally rose tinted clothes, Zelda. We already mentioned it in this thread, the Zelda characters had it worst with the textures.
I know, but I wanted to make other anons in the thread smile
>the rest aren't as expressive
>image posted showing they were
>uh wow look at those clothes and shit textures
which stage has the best lighting and why is it the boxing ring
I didn't know textures had anything to do with expression.
At least it's accurate though, because TP has the ugliest fucking look of any Nintendo game.
That megaman one can be done in every game in the series, even 64. But hey, I'll admit it, these are prettt kino.
brawl was way worse.
Realism is garbage for Nintendo Characters.
>The entire point of smash is to be dumb fun as said by the creator
>>Hurr ur soi
Weird way to spell Super Paper Mario
If anything 4 had the cleanest artstyle of them all. SmUsh adjusting to Switch/UE4 actually downgraded the lighting and saturation a bit, as anybody who remembers the initial screens can recall, though not as badly as Brawl did.
The mishmash of textures on cartoony models in brawl is totally fucked from a design standpoint. The characters dont look cohesive together on screen, so it looks like a bunch of G mod models thrown together.
4 and ultimate did a way better job unifying the art style and colors and textures.
Yes
That's one of the biggest problems with 4. Not only are the graphics ugly, but it ended up being used for a ton of Zoomer memes on Twitter. I've seen that dumb pic floating around on social media so much with some "hood comedy" associated with it, and I highly doubt the people spreading it actually know who Ganondorf is, let alone that he's a genocidal dictator.
4 is cancer.
This. Also Ultimate at least fixed/changed many little modeling issues the best it could.
Then why's everyone praising detective pikachu? Is it suddenly cool to like Nintendo characters being serious now? Is this the transformers cycle again?
Weird, and it stands out like a sore thumb, but not muddled ugly with a general aesthetic that matched what xbox and ps3 were being mocked for with the cover-shooter genre.
>Zoomer memes
Negro, at the time of brawl everyone liked shitty stuff like brawl taunts, you're complaining about nothing.
What made brawl and 4 look ugly were the particle effects.
This is why ultimate looks so much better
ultimate has more soul than you give it credit for. the amount of love that went into it is undeniable
Brawl Taunts sucked, but at least it was influenced by the old-school Internet culture of the time, back when Yea Forums, Newgrounds, and Something Awful dominated the Internet. There was also a strong anime aesthetic in it.
It's the difference between retro nerd culture, and vanilla normie culture.
Honestly, Yoshi's current model unironically looks way worse than Melee Yoshi. The only real problem with Melee Yoshi is the weird texture.
Exactly, going for more comic book esque explosion and smoke effects was a good move. Smash 4's fire was especially ugly. It's a nice balance, nice detailed character textures but also cartoony explosions that stick out easily.
Brawl had the most unique one, also an assidt trophy isnr a fair compariosn
Stop trying to out-boom each other, it's just sad.
>no argument
Do these fucking retards know the slang boomer is just a buzzword used by millenial redditors because they have no other way of telling off their parents without feeling like rebellious teens? Course not, probably learned about Yea Forums from r/greenrext when they saw a mega funny.
Not at all, are you high?
Melee Yoshi went with a weird compromise between horse and anthro Yoshi that looked and animated horibbly, while not toning down the heavy squash and stretch that would apparenttly warrant suck a design. It fails in every aspect.
Ultimate Yoshi at least looks fine when not stretching, and when he does, it's no more than Pichu's Grab and F-Tilt, Wario's Up-Tilt, F-Smash, U-air, U-Smash, D-Tilt, etc.
Japan also lost their minds at the bear and bird retard.
Are people shitting on the design? Looks fine considering the transition from his NES design. Punch Out Wii didn't come out until a year later.
>still seething
L.O.L.
Cope.
Lol, boomers hated Brawl cause it was a massive step down from Melee.
>tripping
>slower engine
>busted recovery
>meta knight op
>smash balls were shit
>no fun overpowered items
>less SOUL graphically
>tried too hard to be EPIC
>tripping
>online was unplayable dogshit
>TRIPPING
Boomers hated it so much they went back to Melee, and even modded Brawl to be more like Melee. Hell, only reason Melee is such a meme today, is because Brawl was THAT universally disappointing.
Only Zoomers like Brawl, because it was likely their first Smash game.
>only zoomers like brawl
You idiot! Zoomers like garbage like Minecraft and Fortnite.
Brawl is retro and underground. Zoomers hate cool shit like that.
Boomer came from Reddit, yes. But Zoomer came from Yea Forums as a counter to them using their shitty meme, and it pissed them all off. Especially since Yea Forums then took boomer and made a funny wojak out of it to boot.
Ultimate online is shit but it's God tier compared to Brawl online.
No it’s not. Brawl is Zoomer as fuck. Most Zoomer were 8-10 when it came out. Some 6,5, etc...
Boomers dropped Brawl like it was hot, and went back to Melee.
Melee ganondorf is fucking awesome and you know it.
It's impossible for zoomers to be 8-10 when it came out, as Zoomers are born in the 21st century.
And once again, Zoomers love Minecraft and Fortnite. Sterile shit like that.
Brawl had Snake, Sonic, Subspace Emissary, and final smashes. Boomers at that stuff up like spaghetti.
Melee was also great. I don't know why you're trying to have a war between Melee and Brawl. They were both fantastic.
I wish him and Fox kept their Melee voices in Ultimate.
Smash 4 wasn't supposed to convey "realism or details", they purposely chose to make it the classic style for each character, wether you like it or not is really just up to you.
Also yeah, the textures are flatter, but people really need to learn that you can't judge 3D based on a still image, there's dynamic lighting involved, materials, reflections, shadows, and so on. Heck, most characters don't even look the same on every stage, since there's ambiant lighting for all of them.
In brawl the textures really were flat. Not it the sense that they used flat colors, but rather they were just flat images on the mesh, with shadows always on the same spots, same for volume, where smash 4 and Ultimate used normal maps and such to create graphics that actually reacted to what was happening.
Zoomer Gen starts in 1997. Brawl came out in 2006. Do the math.
>they were both fantastic
No, only Melee was fantastic. Brawl was dogshit, and by far the worst Smash game. Only good thing about Brawl is PM.
There's debate as to when Gen Z starts. I think it starts in 2000, with a prelude in the late 90s.
96-99 is sort of a buffer zone. Some people born there are Boomers, some are Zoomers.
2000 is the perfect year for Gen Z to start as it is the first year of the new century and the new millennium. But this really comes down to semantics.
Brawl has Snake.
I don't mind Ultimate's Ganondorf voice, but I would prefer Melee's over it. It sounds more youthful and intense, especially on the warlock punch scream. Fox on the other hand sounds retarded in Ultimate. He also looks retarded in every game since Melee, what the fuck did they do to his snout? It's so flat, looks like a duck beak.
So does PM, and Ultimate, making that turd of a game irrelevant. Brawl also has randomized tripping, making it literally unplayable. It also chugs like molasses and is way too floaty. Fuck Brawl. And stop reminding me what an awful disappointment that game was.
Man you're playing on a screen absolutely filled with shit, with super detailed BGs and tons of effects and animations going on 100% of the time and you care if Mario's pants has textures or not, get real dude.
Fucking this. Brawl was a genuinely ugly game with a shitty, drab, "realistic" art style that didn't fit 90% of the cast which were all toon characters or furry animal people. 4 was easily a step in the right direction and I'm glad they didn't abandon the emphasis on bright, more vibrant, primary colors for Ultimate.
Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Brawl has plenty of flaws, such as the tripping as you stated, but IMO, the goods (story mode, music, final smashes, playing with friends) outweigh the bads (tripping, masterpieces, competitive-unfriendliness).
Imagine the smell of this thread.
This design is fucking horrible in general. How does anyone prefer this fat, flat nosed prick to the fucking muscley, longed nose jew?
Brawl was fucking ugly, fuck off Wiibabby. Trying to do brown realistic bullshit on the goddamn Wii of all consoles was a huge mistake.
Smash4 is the ugliest and the most SOULLES Smash game
Brawl's realistic textures always looked like complete shit to me. Nintendo mascots are always better rendered cartoonishly, I would rather have a plastic, weird smooth Mario than a realistic one 10 out of 10 times.
SSE was garbage and the final smashes were poorly implemented.
You can play with your friends in every Smash. Brawl has the honor of having the absolute worst online multiplayer despite 4 and Ultimate's many issues.
Smash 4 is soulles as fuck
Gerudo are based off of Arabs.
> Brawl was developed by people heavily influenced by Yea Forums, Newgrounds and Something Awful.
Topics like these are so dumb because it’s about 99% of people like you presenting their totally off base opinions and feelings as facts and about 1% accurate information.
>Brawl is retro and underground
LMAO
The Wii was insanely popular, and Brawl was a high-profile release. Under no circumstances is Brawl "retro and underground".
>SSE was garbage
youtube.com

You're out of your mind.
Not Brawl! Brawl TAUNTS! That stupid Newgrounds Flash animation that was big in 2009! Learn to read!
Read his post again retard.
youtube.com
Here's a better timestamp.
This is PEAK SOUL.
We can agree Project M is better than Ultimate right? If not for the characters and hype surrounding Ultimate.
The only thing Ultimate has going for it is some of the newcomers.
Otherwise the game fucking SUCKS!
Dammit user, you just made me want Isaac in. The way you described, he'd be a perfect character to serve as a GBA tribute in the vein of Pac-Man and Duck Hunt.
When I say "underground", I don't mean obscure. I mean the atmosphere feels like something you would play with your friends in the basement while listening to 90s music, eating pizza and hot pockets, and occasionally talking about European politics.
If that sounds weirdly specific, that's because I'm trying to paint a picture.
Yeah, if you take out all of the things that make Ultimate better, I guess it's worse than Project M. Crazy!
Fuck no.
>much cutscenes
Terrible argument. It’s like you didn’t even PLAY SSE. Can’t blame you though, it was trash.
Ganondorf in Ultimate has the same OoT/Melee voice actor, he's just a lot older now
second best smash for me
Actually, I have played SSE. Several times. It's kino.
>majority of the cutscenes are literally characters staring at each other before nodding or the camera panning over to the entrance to the next generic location
Stop pretending stuff like the invasion cutscene or Sheik punching the Arwing were the majority of the scenes.
I like the projectile play it in, DDD gordos and Wii Fit's ball are alot of fun to play with
Back to fucking Reddit, dumbass.
>the silly anime sound effects
You know that was literally censorship right? But I guess it's OK when old games do it.
Isn’t it like this for every smash game?
Smash has always been a visually ghetto series until Ultimate.
SSE is ruined by having almost zero enemies from the actual game series represented, shit original enemy designs, forgettable locations barely based on/not based on games, and heavily recycling assets
I don't care how cool it was to see Kirby oneshot a battleship with the Dragoon, it doesn't make the 4+ muddy brown jungle levels fun. Also fuck whoever thought it'd be a good idea to gimp everyone's basic movement for the adventure mode in order to make stickers worth a shit.
As a proj m player, no.
Proj m just adds extremely unnecessary additions or changes the game was fine without. Making ivysaur was a mistake, he should have movement and capabilities similar to melee and be a spacer instead of heal/projectile. Ultimate surprised me with a great ivysaur and is definitely the gameplay I didn't expect from a newer game. The only good part of melee is bowsers castle and snake. Otherwise I'd just play melee if I really wanted to play competitive only, in ultimate, I feel competitive AND I'm having fun.
I'll forever hate SSE for having an idea that should in theory write itself as a big crossover story between Nintendo franchises that managed to still be boring and forgettable anyhow.
WoL would've been so much fucking better if it had more cutscenes, jesus. How did they fuck that up twice?
>You know that was literally censorship right?
who gives a shit when they sound way better than the generic stock realistic sound effects?
>thought the Hero trailer opening up with Dharkon meant they were gonna actually improve WoL and make it good
imagine my disappointment
honestly i had more fun with melee's adventure mode than WoL and SSE, Hyrule Castle was so fun to walljump/get around in.
Yep, SSE is top tier KINO
Brawl is ugly and SSE was bad, Wii-era zoomers please get off this board.
Fucking same. WoL was absolute trash aside from the final segment.
>original concept written up by Kazushige Nojima was everyone riding in a bus on the way to the stadium while Snake watched them from afar
>Sakurai said it was too cartoony and that it actually needed to be darker and more edgy to fit the new style of the game
>we got the fucking mess in the final game that wasn't even told properly because the Dojo had to be updated explaining how the Halberd was taken over, what the timed badges were, how Dedede came up with the idea of designing them, and what he meant to do with them
WoL was a disappointment in terms of interactions, but I'll always hate Brawl for absolutely wasting the idea.
t. Zoomer
>SSE's occasional cutscenes were pretty good
FTFY
but Zoomers are the Brawl demographic?
No, Zoomers are the 4 and Ultimate demographic, retard.
Zoomers love Minecraft and Fortnite.
Brawl is Boomer.
>censorship is ok when I like it because OLD GAME GOOD NEW GAME BAD
Low IQ take.
>Zoomers love Minecraft and Fortnite
games with cartoony shit trying to be edgy and realistic with shit like hunger and tons of weapons
like Brawl
Minecraft and Fortnite?
Edgy and realistic?
Are you retarded?
And Brawl isn't trying to be realistic. Edgy, you could make an argument (edge was a fad in the 2000s, e.g. Shadow the Hedgehog, Twilight Princess, emo). But Brawl isn't trying to be realistic at all.
I fucking hate playing smash 64, it's fucking disgusting for me to look at and I think Ultimate is better in every way. That doesn't change the fact that I'm glad they changed the dull stock sound effects.
>edge was a fad in the 2000s, e.g. Shadow the Hedgehog, Twilight Princess, emo
so what you're saying is brawl is proto-zoomer
All I want out of a story mode is something like Adventure Mode but longer with actual cutscenes.
I love Sakurai but I have no idea what was thinking when it comes to the SSE.
No, I'm saying Brawl is one of the last Boomer things.
The late 2000s was a turning point for culture. Things started to foreshadow the culture of the 2010s, and Brawl was one of the last pure things.
>the original is lacking in the soul department
>original
>lacking in soul
this is your brain on melee
any questions?
Melee has an actual atmosphere.
64 is literally supposed to be a little kid's room. The music sounds like it was made by a 5 year old on their electric keyboard, and there is no excuse for the terrible graphics, considering the fact Ocarina of Time came out a year before on the same system and had much, MUCH, better graphics.
Brawl was quite possibly the most disappointing game of all time. It's hard thinking of games that were that big of a letdown. Maybe spore
Don't the character reveal trailers already scratch the cut scene itch?
What ia it about Smash's artstyle that makes cartoon characters like Mario and Fox not look jarring next to more realistic characters like Snake and Bayonetta? This was one of the biggest problems with that Sony Smash knockoff.
>one of the last Boomer things
anything to not be labelled any type of zoomer, huh zoomer
oh sorry, proto-zoomer
Nobody who was excited about Banjo is complaining about Hero. Anybody who wanted Banjo knows and respects how much of a miracle it was that he got in and they're all old enough to understand how influential DQ is. Anyone who claims to have wanted Banjo but is butthurt about Hero is either a falseflagging faggot or a bitch little zoomer hopping on the bandwagon.
That being said, blame the Fire Emblem characters for the stigma attached to "anime swordsmen". Hero sets himself apart by having a heavier spell focus a la Robin but some people are still sore about having 4 fucking Marths in the game, 3 characters from the same FE game, 4 shill picks (though people forget that Roy was a shill pick and they still love him), and plus, nobody really likes Corrin regardless of how he/she stands apart in terms of moveset. If the FE reps were more diverse and used different weapons, or there were fewer of them, morons wouldn't be needlessly bitching about Hero unless they were straight up retarded.
Duke Nukem Forever.
>Maybe spore
C'mon, Spore is like the king of disappointing games. Second and third would go to No Man's Sky and Duke Nukem Forever. Brawl can be in the top ten though.
Can we agree Smash 4 had the absolute BEST artstyle in any Nintendo game?
That I can definitely agree on. Brawl was by far the ugliest, most desaturated game in the franchise though.
This nigga can't be serious
This Nigga is actually serious
This guy is literal autism incarnated.
Brawl is by far the ugliest.
You know what they say about assuming...
>there is no excuse for the terrible graphics
Smash 64 runs at 60FPS
OoT runs at 20 on a good day
Yes, I quoted the same tard twice in the same thread to highlight how fucking stupid OP is.
oh wait YOU are OP aren't you user? hi
You're a bit slow, aren't you?
I'll give (You) a hint.
(YOU)
>Brawl's washed out color palette

I always liked the artstyle when it came to Brawl. Even though I think Smash Ultimate looks way better (keeps the realistic style, but adds the lighting effects of Smash 4), Brawl always has that distinct style that made it look different compared to other Nintendo games, like how the characters would look in a more realistic style. Smash 4's graphics to me was way to sugary in my opinion, where they tried to appease to the characters artstyle, which made the game look a little unidentifiable. Some characters like Link looked great in Smash 4, with the realistic hair and the detailed clothing (looks better than his Smash Ultimate design) while others look really off, like the Pokemon having singular colours or Bowser having a weird orange tint to him, or Wario going from having a messy denim jacket to solid blue with plastic buttons when in Brawl they actually looked menacing and some what evil. Personally, Smash 4 looked a little off to me, I'm glad the style of Brawl and Smash Ultimate unifies the artstyles, like Melee before it as well, with characters having detailing to their clothing (stitching, even Pac-Man has that with his gloves in Smash Ultimate) and overall more realistic colouring to them. It just feels like Smash when it comes to it (also, I hate Smash 4 Mario, every single Smash game except 64 has him with detailed overalls, why the fuck does it look like play-doh in Smash 4. Also his shoes are the wrong fucking colour.)
Oh man that design was brutal in 4... he looked fine in Brawl, why did it look so bad there...
Not even that guy, his image is correct. Stop talking like a faggot.
Smash containment board when?
As soon as it becomes not a video game :)
aint gonna lie, just looking at those two pictures and not the banter underneath them, 4 looks better
Brawl
>Toon Link looks shit
>Ganondorf looks great
4
>Toon Link Looks great
>Ganondorf Looks shit
there has to be a way to make realistic and cartooney characters look good at the same time
Gameplay was fun as a co-op experience too. Sorry you don't have friends.
Smash 4 was a much bigger let down.
>realism
SMASH IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REAL
There is. It's called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
OMG SOUL SOUL ONIONS--I MEAN SOUL JUST LOOK AT THAT SOUL
Is this supposed to be a counterpoint? It looks like a screenshot of one of those movies someone recorded from the theater on their cell phone, then compressed it to 700mb so it fits on a CD, then uploaded to a torrent site.
>muh denim texture
Yeah, no. That's just untrue.
brawl objectively has the most soul put into it
4 has none
prove me wrong
Ultimate looks way worse than 4 the colours are more washed out
