The design is bad from all angles imaginable. One, theme. ZR is a design used for schoolgirl characters. Is Tifa a schoolgirl? No. She's an adult. Two, composition. Spats, sports bras, and gloves are sport gear, better fitted for a sport-themed outfit. Thigh highs and plaid skirt skirts are day-to-day gear, better fitted for everyday, feminine outfits. The two together don't work. It's liking trying to mesh two outfits together. Third, characterization. Tifa is depicted as a very practical person in the story, her tank top and skirt are probably what she has at hand. However, the tank top and plaid skirt serve no purpose anymore, since she has spats and a sport bra that's bigger than the top. A new outfit true to Tifa's character would have spats and sport bra only together with the gloves and boots. Hell, it would have yoga pants and sport bra. The socks, plaid skirt and tank top are merely fashion choices, they serve no purpose. Three, color scheme. Black is out of balance now. There's too much black to too much white. This is where the AC outfit conquers the new one. There was a right amount of black to the right amount of white, giving her a black based design. The original outfit reigns over them both though, giving the contrast of black from the hair, skirt, and long gloves to the white based Tifa. The red in the gloves (now gone), together with red from the boots and hair clip bring her eyes into evidence. Overall a much more pleasing design to the eyes.
And that's why the design is bad.

The problem with Remake Tifa is not boob size, but the outfit itself. It's neither completely different like the one from AC was, but it's not the original either, it's a weird hybrid that ends up being the worst of both worlds.

It's not even a matter of being skimpier or not, all the other characters were allowed to keep their iconic outfits from the original game with just a few minor changes or improvements, yet for some reason Tifa's got a lot of pointless fluff added to hers, and as such she lost her iconic look.

The new outfit in itself isn't bad, but it feels more like something she would wear in a spinoff like AC, but for a game that revisits the original events, I feel it's a mistake to make such drastic changes to it.

You can't just change the outfit that defined a character on a whim, people are expecting them to look and feel a certain way at a given time period.

This is such a basic concept, I'm not sure why Nomura felt the need to fix what was not broken.

You can access an unused room in Northern Crater via the debug menu. It has Aerith’s theme playing and it looks nice but that’s about it. If you hack Aerith into your party after her death she has some unique lines too.

They absolutely can not expand enough to make it worth it, at least not without adding fanfic-tier crap, additions which do change the story, or just giving a lot of arcs and subplots false starts.

Best example of what I mean js they may choose to more heavily develop Cloud and Tifa in disc 1. In the original game it was set up they liked each other but otherwise mostly held off on until disc 2 where it’s developed and paid off for real. Since Tifa’s whole deal is she struggles to say what she feels this makes sense.

So I am expecting a lot of drawn out awkwardness between the two of them in disc 1 which will just make people wish they’d stop being autistic. Or annoy people who would rather have more development with Aeris while she’s still alive.

Episode 2 will start with the Nibelheim flashback in an extended cold open, with the title card fading in right as Sephiroth walks into the flames, and it will end right when Tifa gets knocked unconscious as the Weapons are released, giving it that Empire Strikes Back cliffhanger ending. Episode 3 will then pick up in Junon with the world all fucked up from Weapon attacks, and the impending Meteor strike.

That’s the way it would go if I were running the show, that is.

That's half the time FFXV was technically in development for, and if they avoided the development hell XV had they would have much more time to create a polished combat system. They've fixed the hold circle shit and stuff like link-strikes being basically random by implementing the ATB system. Tactical Mode is a better version of Wait Mode, Magic is just limited by MP instead of spells themselves being the limited resource you had to collect, and character switching is part of the design instead of being a cumbersome tacked-on afterthought due to DLC. And you can't just spam healing items anymore either.

It's almost like whoever they got to do combat design for this wasn't incompetent or under insane pressure/time constraints.

This is probably their best route. Lets them expand like they want to while preserving the beats if the original game. I doubt they’ll fail to set up Cloud and Tifa and beyond that it’s not too prominent in disc 1.

In an interview they thought of killing off more prty members but thought it would devalue Aerith’s death. Little worried they’ll be making the mistake they avoided with the Avalanche crew this time. thank you for posting an image that clearly illustrates to me why i hated the design so much. i knew the leggings and undershirt were wrong, but i thought it was censorship of lady bits. it's not, it's just a different character. it doesn't resonate with the original, it feels like tifa's sister or aunt or something. i'm gonna wait for the pc release before playing it with a mod that fixes tifa for sure, but if that's never a thing i'll probably have to bench her permanently since she doesn't belong in the game at all in her current state.

Zack is pretty much all what Cloud admired and wanted to be, especially when Cloud never even made it to SOLDIER when Zack a first class.
Strength wise tho Cloud is a lot stronger than Zack by the end of the OG game. AC Cloud is even stronger that so there's no contest in this regard
