These games are made on a budget in the thousands. They just shove as much shit as they can out there and then when something starts gaining traction, they shill the shit out of it with a marketing budget in the hundreds of millions.
E3 is a PR event now and the home audience has gotten more important than the industry insiders and press. If it's something that no-one watching the show at home is going to care about it does not need to be in the conference.
Nintendo understands this which is why their Nintendo Direct was only about 40 minutes long and packed to the brim with relevant content, while EA's show was THREE FUCKING HOURS even though the only game anyone wanted to hear about was Star Wars.
