What's the best way to play Morrowind in 2019?
What's the best way to play Morrowind in 2019?
by playing it
by talking about it on v and pretending you have played it
On your phone you fucking zoomerr
As a D&D campaign.
jesus christ not even for money
What mods are essential aside from ones to make the combat not terrible?
Here's your Morrowind, bro.
youtube.com
Combat is only terrible if you're a retard so I dunno.
If yuo are being serious the Morrowind Overhaud Mod 3.0 is the best for the casual modder IMO.
moddb.com
You will need to read the brief instructions, but it holds your hand the entire way through.
Combat is perfectly fine faggot
Openmw. Really helps scale the windows and has it run better. Bug fixes already prebaked inside.
Go into the game treating how you make your character similar to a DND game and you'll be fine. The combat isn't good, but the people that act like it's the worst piece of shit ever try to use a wizard to beat shit with an axe.
Here's a retard proof way to build a beginner character, do custom class
>Specialization: Combat
>Favored Attributes: Strength, Agility
>Pick a race and make one of their weapon skills your Major Skills. For example: Nord/Axe, Redguard/Longsword, Orc/Blunt Weapon
>Pick Lady sign
There
>want to play Morrowind Rebirth
>new cities absolutely tank my FPS
I hate being poor.
Pick class, do what the class name would entail in any other damn game.
It ain't hard, but I can see how it's jarring to newer people. 3D combat real time with dice roll mechanics is a rather shit idea
It runs like shit on most everything, to be fair. The original engine wasn't really meant for that. Have you tried modding it with openmw?
I won't defend it being a not stupid idea, obviously, but it does play just fine if you put more than 5 brain cells into it.
I do personally like playing default classes, immerses me more even if they're suboptimal.
Yes. OpenMW + Rebirth is too much for my shitty laptop. I had to scrap Rebrith and now just run OpenMW with texture mods and the water shaders. Still looks nice but I miss the towns and extra armors Rebirth added.
no did the tribunal use timemagic to retcon them killing nerevar
Tribunal are just lying scum.
i tried morrowind overhaul a couple of years back. it really breathes new life into the game, and was relatively hassle free as the installer does most of the work.
looking forward to Skywind, if it ever comes out
>immerses me more even if they're suboptimal.
This is a good point. When you start to get powerful, there just becomes a plethora of unintersting items. I usually stop wearing armor, and use worse weapons when it starts getting too easy. All of a sudden, you may start appreciating that belt that has a first barrier enchantment, or an amulet with a sanctuary spell.
I've played it so many times now that I can't even help myself from powergaming it. I wish I could recapture the magic of the first time I played.
combat enhanced is pretty fun, but I think it doesn't work with openmw.
I did one playthrough where I abused alchemy and made myself god
Hated it. I appreciate that such a broken system is there (because it makes sense, technically) but it just isn't a fun way to play. I want to play a character in a world, I don't want to completely bust the game open and slaughter anything.
Have you tried Rebirth?
openmw
disregard mgso it's oudated and it looks like complete garbage
Same. I wish I could go.back, desu. I made an alchemy potion of health had regenerated like 4858373738 every 6 seconds. Now the game is trivial. Intelligence potion, drink potion, make stronger potion is a hell of a drug
I still love breaking the game, but not to that level.
Haha I did that approach when I played the game the first time on xbox (horrible btw). I also used the weapons glith technique and yeah it spoiled all the challenge, but it was fun in a way how broken it was. I just had to try to appreciate the story more. On PC I have to resist the urge to COC everywhere and one hit whack things to death, so I try to play a little slower.
I have not. I'm not too well versed in modding morrowind desu.
I wouldn't say it's garbage dude. Try playing the vanilla game on xbox. That is true garbage.
Start by inserting the game CDs into your optical drive.
Is openMW compatible with all the mods?
>optical media
>2019
damn grandpa get with the times
Ohfuck I stacked morrowind with bloodmoon and tribunal on top and now the pc sounds angry help
>essential
None of them
You're supposed to put the original in between the expansion disks (That's what they used to call DLCs).
not with mods that require an external tool (morrowind enhanced or the script extender)
You stupid bitch. You stupid fucking bitch. I can't believe how dumb you are.
I'm glad it didn't completely spoil me, because I really enjoy trekking through the world as I do quests. I started the Temple questline for the first time and doing the pilgrimage was fantastic.
>but it was fun in a way how broken it was
Yeah don't get me wrong, there's charm in seeing how much you can fucking blow the game apart. I had fun doing it. But when it comes to Morrowind as a whole, that isn't why I enjoy playing it.
This makes sense: the Vivec that killed Nerevar is not the same that wrote the 36 Lessons outside of appearance.
>But when it comes to Morrowind as a whole, that isn't why I enjoy playing it.
Absolutely. This playthrough I am taking time to explore the nuances. Playing every factions quests. Trying to immerse with role play and lore rather than just blasting through it. It's truly a testament to how great a game it is that you can elect to play in so many different ways.
truly the way it's meant to be played is however you want to play it
I'll tell you how I did it an I am a legitimate modding brainlet.
>Get the OpenMW Nightly version (not the 0.45 released version yet, 0.45 has a slight texture issue with Rebirth)
>Download Mod Manager 2 and get the OpenMW extension
>Put the OpenMW extension in the directory of Mod Manager 2
>Start OpenMW, close it, then open Mod Manager 2
>Create a profile for Morrowind
>Download Morrowind Rebirth 5.0
>Got to Mod Manager 2 and use the Install icon at the top, find Morrowind Rebirth
>Install it using Mod Manager 2, then use the OpenMW extension to export everything to OpenMW (this is done with the Puzzle icon to the left of the Wrench+Screwdriver icon and click "Export to OpenMW")
It's literally that easy with Mod Manager 2, it lets you install mods and it handles your load order for you. Just make sure every time you add something to hit the "Export to OpenMW" part so it changes the config file for OpenMW so the mod is put into the game. I recommend Morrowind Enhanced Textures 2.2, Better Morrowind Armor, Westleys Head replacer, Better Bodies, Darknut's Weapon mod+Improved Steel Meshes mod as well if you get Rebirth running.
It's that simple user. Mod Manager 2 takes a lot of work off of you.
Thanks for typing that up man. Does rebirth just add graphical improvements over mgso, or is there some other compelling reason to go that route?
It edits way too much imo. You can find the full listing on their moddb page
Rebirth does a lot to the game. Alters races, Birth Signs, leveled lists, and expands cities. It doesn't alter any textures so you can throw on any texture set you want.
Here is the Mod Manager 2 guide if you run into any "No Game Data at Top Level" errors
wiki.step-project.com
Just search that phrase and it'll show you how to fix it with .gif instructions on the page. Good luck user
On Xbox of course.
I tried to get into this around the time I played Oblivion and gave up around the time I was level 10 or so. It seemed that I was more or less two shotting everything and that was without a min-max build. Just a claymore. I get they're high damaging but it was pretty much "see something, two shot it, maybe drink a potion at worse while chopping up the rest of the NPCs".
Even summoning 8 creatures was slower than the sword and less effective.
Are the quests and sidequests actually worth playing for? I don't mind modding it for difficulty or just not using certain weapons/magic. Basically I just really want to avoid the whole " you're now level 30, congrats, you're OP and have 50% of the game to go where you steamroll it"
Just because you know how the combat in Morrowind works doesn't mean it's not still terrible. It's perfectly managaeable, but you'd be lying if you said the combat is fun or engaging in that game.
Kill all of the shitty lizards and cats
This. The problem with an ancient engine is that piling enhancements on top eventually gets to the point where no matter how powerful your engine is, it will still run like garbage just because the engine reaches its limit.
Same thing happens with Beyond Skyrim Bruma for Oldrim. No matter how good your computer is, your framerate WILL tank in the city. The game simply cannot handle rendering something that large.
quests are fun, especially those dealing with the great houses. just make a shitty character (full magic user, you'll have a hard time)
I don't know, custome spells and all the magical artifacts in the game make combat fun. Morrowind also doesn't HP bloat the fuck out of enemies. Once your skills and trained up combat scenarios are quick and deadly.
We're talking past each other. I acknowledge all of what you said, but none of that actually makes morrowind's combat FUN.
>It edits way too much imo
I think that's what he's looking for though. Rebirth is for the people who know the vanilla game like the back of their hands.
went into bloodmoon at the very end of my game, enemies where HP bags dealing insane damage
also fuck unarmored combat
Oh yeah, I completely forgot the expansions where you can tell Bethesda's downfall was coming. Tribunal and Bloodmoon are full of HP scaled shit
pirate the game and expansions, and play in openMW with the mods I'm mentioning below.
there's one called "passive healthy wildlife" that makes it so you don't get gangbanged by cliffracers every 4 steps you take. I don't remember the name but there's another one that makes it so you move faster, jump higher, and don't lose stamina when running. That one makes movement much less of a chore.

AI enhanced textures
Go nuts
Anyone got questions about TES lore?
I am going to say the N'Word
thanks anons. i will def check it out.
>AI enhanced textures
??????
I understand the concept of zero-summing, but what I don't understand is why the dwemer all zero-summed at the same time. Do they have a hivemind or something? Logically shouldn't only Kagrenac have zero-summed upon using the tools?
N'wahd
The faction quests are so boring. So are the other quests. The main story is 10/10 though.
>playing for the first time
>discover house mods
>playthrough turns into Hoarding and Decorating simulator 2002
I think the Animal Crossing delay did this.
Okay, I'll try that. Is there any magic spells to stay away from or effects to avoid that are too strong?
Other than the alchemy exploit, enchanting exploits and obviously going with 50% magicka absorb or reflect
What's your favorite house mod? I want one because the Houses you get from the Great House questlines are pretty shitty. Balmora home is my favorite vanilla but then I'd have to join House Hl**lu
They did not zero-sum, no one actually knows certainly what happened to them.
The closest we have to understanding what happened to them is the hints that Kirkbride dropped OUT OF GAME, there is basically no info in the game itself except for one quest and one book, I shall elaborate further.
Numidium is an artificial God, created possibly in image of Lorkhan to store Heart of Lorkhan and work off of it, it seems to work only with Lorkhanic energy sources since both Mantella and Heart of Lorkhan are from...well Lorkhan.
Michael Kirkbride hinted that essentially Kagrenack wanted to make Dwemer part of Numidium, so they all together could turn into a God basically. It seems the this is what happened but he failed because of the battle going on in the Red Mountain at the moment so they merged with Numidium in a corrupted broken way. They are part of his "golden skin" which might be a reference to the plane that makes up his outer layer and also I remember some old beth forum posts saying that they are "subgradient" souls now and even the ghosts in Morrowind dwemer dungeons weren't ghosts, more like echoes or shades.
It is unconfirmed though and probably will never be fully clear.
This is somewhat, very vaguely referenced in Skyrim. When Arniel in the quest, Arniel's endeavor repeats the exact tonal pattern that Kagrenack used with Keening he just disappears, and then you as the Dragonborn get the ability to summon Arniels shade which doesn't seem to be a ghost and more like just a mirror image of him. It seems that his soul somehow broke down and got fused to you, as the closest example of a Shezzarinic entity.

This is the quest, if you want to reenact small scale Dwemer experiment.
I've only tried a few so far, but my favorite has been Mistletoe Manor. Gonna also try Sea Rover's Tent later so that I don't have to keep returning home to drop junk off.
I can also explain tonal architecture if you want
interesting, thank you
exploit everything you can, and use the 50% absorb from the atronach, it won't be OP at all
the thing is, you'll easily run out of magicka, taking the atronach forces you to use alchemy to restore it as you cannot just wait, or it forces you to take risks by going into combat to restore it
without magicka
>you'll have to rely on your low-trained weapon skill, take short swords or blunt weapon
>you'll loose any form of ranged combat
>you'll be completely exposed
>you won't be able to cure anything without help
>no recall..etc...
so here's your difficulty
on the later game most enemies will reflect any offensive spell you throw at them, making destruction quite useless so you'll have to change your strategy to adapt to each enemies you encounter, therefore you'll have to create more spells for every situations
playing a magicka build really is about being creative and having fun, not steamrolling through the game
Why can't I complete the Fighter's Guild without killing the Balmora lady? I remember something a long time ago about getting her a cup and she betrays the leader of the Fighter's Guild. Did I make that up? What if I kill her and then revive her with the console will that fuck anything up?
Thanks, user. I'll go with a pure mage build.
Please do
