what makes farcry 2 good?

I've played a little bit of Far cry 3 and that's it.
is 1/2 worth getting on sale?

The biggest flaw with this game was how badly spaced out the save points were. And saving took forever on my ps3

Far Cry 2 has the most interesting mainline setting and tried to at least experiment with new ideas compared to anything after the third game.

played FC3 to completion recently and tried a bit of FC4 - FC2 was the only title that felt like, above all else, it was trying to be a real world, whilst the other two constantly kept reminding you that you're playing a high-paced game and you must grind X amount of hides to improve your gameplay experience... did I mention that you're playing a game? Here's a map with all the shit you have to grind - feel free to teleport whenever you want, it's all the same bullshit anyway.

The atmosphere and the setting. Africa's blood diamonds that was novel. Now it really looks it's made out of playdoe isn't it but back then it was really beautiful and looked so open.
Play it for historical purposes since it's the first itteration of a system refined in Far Cry 3 which you played already.

You didn't play Far Cry Instincts: Predator clearly.

Not only did it have two great and lengthy campaigns on one disk, it also had the best and most unique mechanics out of all Far Cry games (Predator mode) where you could be an animal that hunted with his bare hands and have super strength and speed and agility. It had Island of Dr. Moreau vibes to it that are totally gone in the later sequels.

And also, it had the best multiplayer experience out of all the games because it introduced an amazing map editor that tons of people used to make obstacle courses, race maps, giant slides, replicas of real places, etc, that made the whole experience so much fun (especially with the added predator ability I talked about). You had to play it to experience it. It matched Halo 2/3 experience of multiplayer kino.

It's my quintessential "little things" game. The fire physics, the foliage destruction when you fire a machine gun into the bush, that not-quite-ragdoll flop they do when you drop them. It's just a damn immersive game despite its flaws. Honestly the needing to take pills for your AIDS and the weapon jamming don't even bother me the most, it's the weapons all appearing to be left handed that bugs me.

The fire effects were literally the only good thing about this game.

Sorry i don't know about nude mods or gun values editing since i've used as base a mod which already modified gun combat values so i haven't dives into this specific thing.
The problem with Far Cry modding is that mods were not made on a singular basis instead they consist entirely of compilations made by one user or an other who changes various things to suit their tastes which means a mod that removes the minimap will also change change shop prices or enemy textures and a mod that modifies enemy loot tables will modify rain frequency as well. It's fucked up but i blame Ubisoft.
I could tell you how to remove the button promps which is an absolute must if you even want to play Far Cry 3.
Almost every mod out there overhauls guns so good for you. The most popular being Ziggy's mod but i do not recomend it as it changes too many unrelated things and not always for the best like various textures but you can use certain files of it to build your own set of modifications.
