The gem in the kid's stomach that keeps him alive was ripped out by the giant statue lady in the background at the end. It turned into a copy of him made of light and kicked her ass and then went back to him. There was this subplot about the kid potentially not even being a real person and just a vessel for the last person who had the gem, he's crying because the gem turning into him and not the previous host confirms that he's his own person after all.
