In Cyberpunk 2020, which this is based on, the further you stray from your birth, the further you lose humanity/people treat you different. In fact, part of the reason America is fucked I. The setting is due to diversity splitting everyone into groups and them all going to war with each other. Being trans probably changes dialogue and/or is scene as a negative.

True. Like Deus Ex it is rather linear with you starting out as a mercenary named V. But it is clear you can choose who to associate with.
Look at the dialogue options with Meredith Stout in the first gameplay demo. You can totally suck up to her and say you want to work with her again at the end. Or you can play nice with the Mealstrom gang and tell them the Corpo gave you a infected chip.
And according to articles on the new demo you can decide how you want your relationship with the Voodoo Boys gang will be. If you chose the street kid background option you get special dialogue.

Wrong, the guns can be customized as retrofitted with augments and have affects according to the implants you have installed in your arm/body, something that is not akin to borderlands. The only "bullet sponges" that are in game are the bosses shown in the demo, everyone else went down almost just as easy and in fact swarm you and take spots to flank where enemies speak to each other. Anyway, my experience with RPG shooters is that they always end up being bullet sponges as the game progresses. The only other option to adding difficulty in these games would be improving the AI, which they wont do.

Instead they boost up the hp and there you have it, bullet sponges.

In cyberpunk 2022 they can literally grow you new bodies and transfer your consciousness to them idiot.
Their biotech is one of the more advanced ones in sci do settings. If you have enough money your basically immortal. You could just have it setup so whenever you die that you get transferred to another body. You can physically change yourself into the little girl or into a fruitfly.

I'd assumed it's more like Shadowrun or something. You're a fairly elite character or at least end up that way, and generally a free agent. You can align with various interests and make choices about who to side with which will then change down the road how they regard you and what favors they might do you (or if they even still exist at all) but at no point do you or can you just join some corporation or cult or specific clan or whatever, except maybe as one possible end to the game. I mean, once you did do such a thing the game such as it was really would be over, becoming so awesome some megacorp makes you a high level job offer you take means a totally different life from there on out. Similarly even tons of the gangbangers and shit also involve massive surgical and drug alterations that'd end you as the same character.

I don't how this is any different than any other game like Fallout 1+2 or VTMB. You don't join factions in those game, you side with people and then you go on your merry way doing shit that you're supposed to do or continuing on your crusade. In VTMB you are camarilla throughout the entire game, you can't say otherwise. But throughout your playthrough you can decide who you want to have the upper hand like feeding info the Anarchs, wanting to support Straus because you don't like Lacroix but still follow the tenants of the Camarilla. It's only at the end where you decide who you want to run LA. But when Cyberpunk 2077 does it, it's baaaaddd because my contrarianism angst dictates my teenage soul to hate things that are popular.

Really it's a fairly common staple of cRPGs of all kinds, period, including fantasy stuff like D&D. There are rare exceptions, but normally anything where the "adventure" whatever that is is based around an individual or small party of free movers the adventure is over if/when they break that up and permanently join something else. Yeah, maybe new stories arise, life goes on for survivors, but it's all out of scope. They're now under command of superiors and have new rules and responsibilities to follow. Often there is a need to "settle down" more or at least stick to more specific areas. That's true at anywhere in an organization really, even if you become king that's still a role with a ton of shit to do rather then spelunking in forbidden caverns.

I mean, I actually think it might be pretty fun if someone made a new cyberpunk game where you're an EX-runner who did make the corp shift and are now a high level exec or even reach C-level and are trying to manage corporate intrigue and dispatching missions and so on. There are interesting things to explore in other parts of society. Would be a totally different game however.
