I can't believe there are people who unironically want Waluigi as a playable fighter over everyone else on the list.

dang, Incineroar is only not on top of most disliked just because of Chrom

but I have my reasons to dislike him as well, given that I'm mostly uninterested by any most recent Pokemon rep, especially after how lazy Game Freak's being. This isn't even dislike over one mere pokemon design (I kinda wish it was), it's just frustration over a generation that has fallen flat for me after a while. Detachment, more than anything. Maybe I wouldn't have minded Incineroar in Pokken alongside the owl, given it's their own game, but in Smash, it feels unnecessary.

Weird seeing people retaliate against Chrom so much, given there were people begging for him back. Most FE fans though, if anything. It's the trouble of not being selective and keeping FE reps to a certain number while also trying to keep up with fans of the series.

If I have no interest in Hero and Joker, would it now work out that it'd be cheaper for me to buy the rest of the fighters individually?

I think the issue is there has been no true FE newcomer (yet) to the game, so adding Chrom at this point just seems unnecessary. Maybe he doesn't deserve as much flack as Incineroar does due to how echos work, but I think it's just the overall frustration of how many Fire Emblem characters are in the game now. Like I would have personally rather seen Shadow as an echo to Sonic just because I feel he would actually bring something new to the table, unlike Chrom.

I think where the base roster failed was the hype was front loaded. If the final reveal had been King K Rool instead of Incineroar, the perception would have been more favorable. Nintendo coming out guns blazing with Ridley and K Rool after Inkling (who everyone with half a brain knew was going to be in the game) made the rest of the reveals disappointing in comparison.

What the heck? Why do so many people hate Incineroar? I don't even like him as a pokemon, but he's really cool and unique as a fighter in Smash Bros.

If you actually play the game Incineroar is barely a grappler, he's too slow to actually grab people and his command grab doesn't function any different than Ganon's Flame Choke, you use them both in the same situations. No, Incineroar is an aerial monster since all his aerials are disjoints and have crazy good frame data. My friend who mains him just shits out nairs and uairs before killing with bair spam since all his aerials besides dair come out before frame 10. If they were trying to make Incineroar a grappler they failed miserably because Incineroar only grabs to kill at 130%, even WOLF is more a grappler than Incineroar since he combos off of throws, kills with throws and any throw puts him in a strong advantage while Incineroar's throws are too strong to get much afterwards besides a uair at super low percent. Even pic related is unironically a better grappler than Incineroar.

It's not just the taunt, it's the mii costume too. Reggie said that the characters would be new to the series, which Heihachi is not due to said mii costume. Plus his and Lloyd's mii costumes can easily just come with some other Namco rep.

I've hated Incineroar since i saw him. I decided to go blind in my first Sun playthrough to get a "sense of discovery" and holy shit did i regret it. Region was absolute ass and i released my Litten as soon as it evolved into that Tony the Tiger bullshit. I genuinely think he's one of the worst Pokemon ever, beaten only by Lucario and Goodra. The former is also in Smash Bros, so i actually think most Pokemon reps are shit except for Pokemon Trainer, which is fucking fantastic, Pikachu being the mascot and maybe Greninja getting the pass despite being just average. Incineroar is a fun character to play in the game, but I still completely hate him as a newcomer, because I hate him as a character in general. Litten and Torracat look cool and they could have easily made a cool looking tiger without making it into a man in a fursuit. I definitely think doom guy and crash is the most fair. They give one classic mascot and one edgy "realistic" character.

Part of the reason I want Reimu is because I think they'd have a very unique and fun moveset but I agree that all the characters on that list would probably have unique movesets. Especially Phoenix Wright.

Yeah. The Final Stages were a total shitshow. It's like they took the bad things about the Gen 6's starters and made them worse. Decidueye was definitely trying to cash in on Greninja hype, but where Greninja executed his concept in a simple way, Decidueye is crammed with so many "wouldn't it be cool if?" details that it becomes a cluttered mess and loses all believability. Incineroar fulfills Chesnaught's role, but somehow managing to have EVEN WORSE proportions and looking like a shitty saturday morning cartoon villain sidekick. Primarina fills in for Delphox, and i guess they noticed people cared more about Braixen that the slightly less girly Delphox, because they pushed the feminine button all the way. The hair combed into a ponytail with pearlbeads and starfish decor is so fucking on-the-nose that it loses all sense of subtlety and veers on parody. I almost think Gamefreak made these shits to make Gen VI's starters look good. At least those are simpler and have a good unifying theme.

No he's not, and anyone who says this deadass doesn't know how to fight him. He has by far the best version the "limit comeback" mechanic because it allows flexibility when both fighting and play as him, while also satying true to the theme and inspiration of the Persona franchise.
Playing defensive against him will delay him getting Arsene, but also allow it to stay out for longer. Playing aggresive gets him Arsene faster, but allows you to dispel it faster. It's about adopting a new strategy and learning how to deal with what is essentially two archetypes molded into one. The same goes for playing him; you need to properly use your tools to get Arsene and maximize the time he's availible. It encourages comboing due to that fact that you get him faster for attacking, which is supported by a moveset that flows better than a river into a delta. His recovery also allows for things like crazy Rebel's Gaurd and Gun gimps.
if you think he's poorly designed you've never touched or researched the character. I don't even play him, but I know all this so I could actually deal the the influx of Jokers at my local scene.

Koopalings are predictable but nice. DHD is also a great legacy pick. Add to that legendary DLC adds like Ryu and Cloud and you've got yourself a great newcomer roster.

That being said, if Ultimate's DLC keeps up with such high quality it will definitely become one of the best sets of newcomers ever.

When Brawl was under development K. Rool, Ridley and Banjo were mentioned all the time as characters people wanted in. This came back with Sm4sh discussions and Smash ultimate discussions before all of them were announced. Sakurai even stated that they got in because of the ballot/Fan demand.

Swordfighting characters aren't the issue to me, it's just that not many of them have a gimmick. The only ones that really do off my head are Shulk and Robin, and Dante'd probably make the most unique one if they were to include Style Swapping. It'd be hard obviously, but it'd make him feel way different if he had the option to swap between dashing, melee and firearm attacks and parrying.

We already have a DMC mechanics rep with Beyo and with Beyo2-3 she has closer ties to Nintendo than Dante ever will.

Dante has a lot of tricks like the guitar weapons or the boots but a style swap in smash? only proj M ever did that and I think it's way too complicated to be in the vanilla game

Pokemon Trainer has unique weaknesses and strengths every swap. Giving 3 different movesets to one character is a fasttrack to make them broken.

Too complicated, maybe, it's just interesting to think about. More complex characters are always a plus in fighting games for me, and a more mechanically unusual one in a game like Smash is a treat. Getting a character like Dante working would be a feat in itself.

Characters often get hate not because of who they are, but simply the timing of their reveal.
The Hero would have forever been 'the anime swordsman who was revealed at E3 instead of Banjo', and definetely would have overtaken Incineroar for at least a month.

Seeing Ken was pretty rad, but the Simon/Richter trailer should have been the final trailer. Ridley was a great start, with Ken/Incineroar separating the obvious western pandering characters. Having Richter show up as the final character reveal would have been fucking nuts.
