Here are my thoughts on why locking pokemon out feels different from the usual gamefreak fuck up.
Every franchise can be defined by certain core aspects. Upon altering said core aspects the franchise begins to lose its identity. People are fine more or less with every gimmick or change gamefreak has introduced over the course of series because they generally did not change the core of pokemon.
What is the core of pokemon? I believe that what makes pokemon different from every other monster catching series is the connectivity between games of the series. There are no other monster catching games where you are actually capable of moving a creature from a 2004 game (Ruby/Sapphire) all the way to a game that came out in 2017 (USUM). The fact that this is possible to this very day is a testament to the uniqueness of pokemon mainline titles. Now however every single game starting with SS will be a walled garden, incapable of being penetrated by any pokemon not found within its regional dex. Certain pokemon will remain locked behind in the past until the day gamefreak in their infinite greed decides to allow them to return for another game's pokedex. I have no doubts they will use this as a selling gimmick.
This "policy" is an attack against the very identity of the franchise. This is not just a hiccup, this is not a spinoff, they have gone out of their way to say that this is what pokemon will be from now on. They are devaluing the series that has for the longest time proven to be above any other monster catching game for the features it provides players with. Now with future pokemon games limited to a selection of specific pokemon instead of the entire library, it is vastly inferior to other games of its genre, be it in terms of graphics, animations, or story.

Black and White were the last quality Pokemon games. 3D brought framerate issues and making models for all 700+ Pokemon has clearly eaten up too much dev time to really put the proper amount of polish these games had in the days of 2D.
If Gamefreak went back to sprite artwork Pokemon would see a massive jump in quality from the abysmal XY and Sun/Moon. 3D should only be saved for the battle focused games or spinoffs like the Orre titles, it just doesn't mesh with mainline Pokemon.

Because I have transferred all of my Pokemon from every game from Ruby onwards. I want to be able to keep and use my Blaziken from 2003 because I have a lot of sentiment for it.

Being realistic, the concept of 100% compatibility with all Pokemon from previous games while ALSO introducing new Pokemon was going to collapse under its own weight eventually. They could not keep doing it forever. They'd already taken measures to limit the issues caused by that scale (future proofing models, reusing models and animations etc.) but even with that, there's going to be a wall.

I think it fucking sucks that it has to happen, but unfortunately it was going to happen at some point. I say this as someone who is an super-autist when it comes to this stuff too. I care extremely immensely about certain long term bros, namely pic related, my Gardevoir from my first playthrough of Emerald who has been a legitimate comforting factor in my life for at least 13 years now, and has been with me since my early teens.
I'll be okay with this long term as long as Home isn't just Bank on mobile. If I can see or interact with my Pokemon in Home in some way (think Pokemon Ranch of Poke-Pelago) then I'll be satisfied. If it's just sprites in a list then that's bullshit though.

They're using the same models, and that helps, but it doesn't mean they can literally just copy paste the code and make no changes and it suddenly does what they want. There is still work involved. There's going to be a point where the only choice is to limit the scope itself by not having every Pokemon able to be in the game.
It's the unfortunate truth of game development. You can't make more and more content forever and support older content forever without it collapsing on itself. There's a reason no developer has done anything like this besides with Pokemon.
So long as I can interact with my mons in some way, I'll be okay. But that's just me.
This is a good point though. The whole thing would have gone over a lot better if Sword/Shield had a meaningful presentational difference but it doesn't seem to. It's laziness because of the team taking executive decisions as final say. Many companies such as square enix have teams that actually care about the games they're working on and the playerbase, and will make things work even if they're told "you don't have to do x".
FFXIV has two new races that can't visually wear the 1000+ existing headgear pieces because of their unique heads and hair. They'd need to rework every headpiece model in the game for these two races, so the director told them to not bother, and told the community that they'd work on it over time. After announcing this, a handful of devs spent their free time remodelling 400+ sets of glasses, masks, circlets, crowns, etc. to work on the new races, without the director's knowledge. Because they care.
Similarly, one dev worked on a full mahjong game to be implemented into the gold saucer, using his free time out of a passion for mahjong and other fans of the game in the community.

I'm not supporting it by buying it. But I support the decision because I know how hellish developing a game like this full of values that players can work with and has to be balanced between two separate groups of people.

I'd say the bigger issue is the e-sport part since a lot of pokemon's values are getting closer to each others while also having the same typing. Some are being left out.
