Honestly user, I'm bored as shit and that's a really good question. Thanks.
I've played most and don't know of any good ones that I haven't played.
But I am. I’m going through Breath of Fire IV right now.
What other Breath of Fire games should I play as well?
I grew up
And yet here you are.
I don't normally find them fun to play besides tactics games, and I just got done playing one of those a few weeks ago.
I want to try out Dragon Quest, but my computer is a toaster. I tried playing the NES games I - IV, but I can't stand playing RPGs from that era.
because i wanna make a jrpg.
Because I've yet to find one that isn't
>JAPANESE TEENAGE BOY IS THE CHOSEN ONE, MUST FIGHT OFF EVIL AND EMBARKS ON A LEGENDARY ADVENTURE ACROSS THE LAND. HE EVENTUALLY UNCOVERS A LEGENDARY WEAPON/POWER THAT HE MUST USE TO TAKE DOWN THE BIG BAD
play Suikoden 2
t. Snoy
Without knowing this game, I bet the final boss is either god or some sort of ancient deity.
i play games for the gameplay
I'm looking for a modern one right now where you collect party members. Like 20 or more. Any advice?
I'm going through FF12 right now.
I'm waiting for my DQMJ2 to arrive
Suikoden 2 is old (like 1999 -2000) but is probably the only jrpg that does having 60+ potential party members reasonably well
This. Japs need to make more games like Dragon's Dogma, Zelda, Deus Ex, Nier, Soulsborne, etc.
But plenty of jrpgs have good gameplay though?
It's grandia you fucking pleb
Does Dragon's Dogma count as JRPG?
I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time and just got Yuffie. Although I think I may be a bit overleveled
i dont know, what one should i played
Because I don't have the fucking time and playing a jrpg in a hour bursts drives me up the fucking wall. I'm currently trying to make time for Metal Max Returns though.
I've got a severe itch to play Ar Tonelico, any Saga game, and Secret of Mana co-op.
Play Kamidori
FF7 is actually piss easy if you aren't retarded. Protip: never unequip the enemy skill materia.
because my depression prevents me from starting up any of my seven hundred games no matter how badly i want to play them
how's Suiken Densetsu 3? It getting a western translation seemed like a big deal during e3. And I heard some pretty ungood things about SoM.
3 is the best in the series.
I would if I could think of one to play, especially one I haven't played before. I don't want to buy a switch until Rune Factory hits, so no xenoblade 2. Can't think of any others that I haven't played that are out.
Does KH3 count?
>Protip: never unequip the enemy skill materia.
it sure seems that way. It's really fun to use enemy attacks and the ones I got so far seem way better than magic in a lot of cases. Can I sort them in some way? I have to scroll down a bit through a bunch of empty slots just to use some and it bothers me
Labyrinth of Refrain, Neptunia have female MCs.
Holy fuck this scene was from Grandia? Had this scene in my head for like 20 years and been unable to remember what's it's from. Thanks OP!
Really solid. The story is a bit weird because you starting character decides which of the three evil factions "wins" and becomes the last bosses (spoiler, its the main bad guys of whatever main character you picked). The gameplay is nice though. There are a good number of characters and each one plays fairly unique. Each character has multiple classes and class paths they can "evolve" into that determine how they play. You can make some pretty fun parties that way. Its overall a pretty solid experience, probably my favorite of the mana games.
play Genius of Sappheiros
Started Nier A tomato a couple of days ago. Why is this game getting praise for its gameplay? I mean, I'm still at the beginning and maybe it'll get better, but so far it seems pretty mediocre, not any different from the first game or DOD3.
Get Beta, Heal Wind and Big Guard and you'll be set for the entire game.
I wasn't aware people praised automata for its gameplay. It's just a better version of the original Nier.
Want to replay Wild Arms 2 but it's got like 6 hours of tutorial
Play smt strange journey, you play as an american space marine killing and recruiting demons while investigating a black hole in antartica
Man, I'd really like to play something like this, but it's incredibly hard to find a game that falls under the classical JRPG category these days. It's been years since I've last seen one.
>it seems pretty mediocre, not any different from the first game or DOD3.
That statement is beyond retarded. Either you haven't played D1 and 3 or you haven't played automata. Come clean.
Does Paper Mario TTYD count? Game is so fucking tedious in how the levels are designed and how progression through them works compared to Paper Mario 64 or Super Mario RPG.
Otherwise, I've been on the fence about continuing my 9 hour Vagrant Story save file, my 13 hour Suikoden 2 save file, or starting something else. On VS I looped back around to an old area and just entirely forgot what the fuck I was supposed to be doing so its just going to be a ton of backtracking and loading. For Suikoden 2 its similar but the idea that I was probably missing 5-10 characters because I wasn't talking to literally everyone and backtracking just got to me at some point after defending that castle you take over.
Retarded shit for 12 year old boys
nier has never one time been praised for its gameplay
people like to jerk off to 2B and then think it's also really deep cause 2B or not 2B, get it? cause hamlet
nier is a shit series
Perfect for you, then.
I am. Playing Secret of Mana right now, loving it. Will play Seiken Densetsu 3 next, then The Last Remnant. I'm unironically enjoying all the jrpg re-releases the switch is getting now
Lisa the painful
Xenosaga II is bullying me currently, battle system is quite different from the first one
I've had the Last Remnant in my library forever, is it worth a run through it?
kino art
Yep, played that series to death, was hoping for something else to scratch that itch.
Dragon quest 11 is the best modern classic jrpg if you're looking for that old school fantasy user
I've run out of ones I want to play. Ones that tried to add some level of mechanical depth i've played to death, or hate with a passion, and the others bore me. But I sure did like them when I had barely touched any. I think i've probably played through a few hundred by now and have simply lost interest. I always have time for the first disc of Legend of Dragoon, though. Even if it kinda sucks at times.
Not him but.
Same. Can't decide if I want to wait for an updated PC release, just play the old pc version or get it on the switch.
But isn't the protag also some kind of chosen one?
>The Last Remnant
I really liked this game, but then I found out about the anti-grind element and I kind of got fucked by the scaling
I haven't played it since beating it when it first released, but I loved it at the time. Really novel combat system, great OST, good cast of characters
I am and did
Remake when ;_;
Because they're all so generic. Some stories, characters and scenes over and over again. Once you've played on JRPG you've played them all.
If you wanted to be an asshat who worried about similar things you could argue that by being a protagonist at all, by that the player character, you are in fact the chosen one. Even Baten Kaitos sorta gets around this but doesn't avoid it completely.
>It getting a western translation
it came out like a day after its announcement.
unless you are talking about the remake.
Yeah, that's the only one I can think of, but I'm waiting for the Switch version since I'm a seiyuufag. I guess there's also Tokyo RPG Factory stuff, but I couldn't even make myself finish the Lost Sphear demo.
As much as I want it, I know in my soul it would turn out terribly.
Is there a JRPG where
>The MC isn't silent or a generic nice guy
>The final boss isn't god
>There's no chosen one plotline
>There's no super special weapon mcguffin
>There's no power of friendship stuff
because i'm playing fallout 3
Have you ever played a jrpg in your life?
Yes, plenty. But you wouldn't know them.
this. I tried Trails in the Sky but it's really boring. I heard it gets good in chapter 2 but i just can't find the urge to play it.
nothing else appeals to me, i've played every good JRPG there is
I've played lots, and they all have some of that.
Waiting for Dragon Quest 11 S to come out.
>I've played lots
Sure we believe you, kiddo
you put so many qualifiers in here that it's obviously not easy to find that many games that apply. "generic" "nice guy" "chosen one" "mcguffin" are all vague tvtropes-tier words redditors use because they don't have good brains
there's been games mentioned in this thread like this. Not like you really want suggestions, only stir up shit.
You've made a thread just the other day and anons gave you plenty of responses.
Unironically Final Fantasy VII
Im playing octopath traveler. Currently sperging out about whether or not I should shell out for equipment at level 12
This, I chuckled upon realizing that.
All of those are more of a WRPG thing.
Most of these apply to all genres of games though. Not that you needed to be blown the fuck out any harder but eh.
I tried Paper Mario 64 and there are way too many enemies around for how braindead it is. I got into Koopa's fortress and got locked into a room with three different paratroopa encounters and just closed it.
Thinking of starting over Covenant of the Plume though.
I am.
money is easy dude, just take Tressa to that level 40 cave in Coastlands and bam.
The MP recovery necklace from her parents is definitely worth it.
Alright. What the fuck is SaGa and is it any good?
V is fucking amazing. It’s nothing like the others (or anything else for that matter) so don’t go expecting another run of the mill BoF, but it’s seriously one of the most tightly-designed games ever made.
>JAPANESE TEENAGE BOY
What jrpg have a japanese MC?
shameless repost from yesterday
>what is it?
An experimental JRPG series that is heavily inspired by old-fashioned open world CRPGs like Ultima 4, moreso than other contemporary JRPGs like FF.
>why should I play it?
It's very open-ended and deep mechanically. It expects you to be patient and observant, rewarding you with rich gameplay.
here's also a pastebin

Saving myself to start FF5 four job fiesta on sunday.
i tried saga 2 recently, monsters scale with # of battles you've won, which i just found to be ultra gay and dropped it on the spot
persona, but yeah you're right most of the time it's a fantasy world
I just recently beat Megaman Legends
Is it true that Last Remnant is basically a SaGa game, user?
Because I'll be at work for another 20 minutes, and then I have a little anime to watch when I get home. I'll play a jrpg tonight, though.
>not any different from the first game
You're lying about having played games. Plain and simple.
kinda burned out. I played through all of the trails in the sky games back to back, 200+ hours in total, doing everything there is to do. now I'll take a long break until I decide if I want to continue with coldsteel or trails to zero
yes, in all but name. The game shares much of the old developer staff, and people who played RS2/3 will instantly recognize most of TLR's mechanics.
It has Platinum's name attached to it, that's the only reason. It's flashier than the previous games and that's all it has going for it, the gameplay is a straight downgrade from the original Nier.
but user
i'm playing an mmojrpg
But I am, Collection of Mana is pretty fucking sweet.
I am. I just started up FF Mystic Quest on the Switch, and i'm in the middle of a X-2 playthrough.
Same here, it's pretty good for a GB game, I imagine if I had played it as a kid on an original GB, I would have loved it to death.
Jrpgs are shit and barely count as rpgs.
Japs have shit taste and none of them have ever played a real tabletop rpg before.
>the gameplay is a straight downgrade from the original Nier.
I know people who played Nier like to pretend they're special and shit on Automata, but at least try to keep it about the story and music. No one's going to believe a shitpost that fucking stupid.
The Ultimate Pleb Filter
Yeah, i thought it being a game i never played when i had a Game Boy, i'd never be able to get it to it, but it'a held up incredibly well. If i had it back then, it would have been one of my favourite games
Dragon Quest V
whats her name
Great. I loved Last Remnant but haven't played any of the actual SaGa games, time to give them a try
finished trails in the sky FC
imo story is decent at best, character are good, but the game isnt good enough, i didnt care about the world building or npcs life story or problems that people was talking about. gameplay was boring
Is Grandia any good, I tried playing the second one but couldn't stop cringing, but I remember some kid talking about it in high school saying it's the best and shit.
Anyone else pissed they fucked up the HD release for this?
Grandia 1 is better IMO, the gameplay isn't quite as refined and more grindy, but it's longer and is generally a happy and lighthearted adventure.
How did they fuck it up?
Why does everyone say this is hard, it's just too open-ended
youtube.com
You better hope they fix this before they release.
>i didnt care about the world building
Disgusting.
Because i took a break from final fantasy adventure to play tropical freeze
Looks like an emulated PS1 version with some kind of filter, but at a good frame rate.
But I am, I'm playing Dark Souls.
I dont get it playstation was built on jrpgs
Its fine not as good as the first two because it fucked up the gameplay
>Collection
>It's just 1 and 2
Why?
Never played Grandia, what is the issue?
The Japanese voice option is actually just them having stolen an existing fan-made undub because it reverts to English in the same places. Also it's based on the PSX version instead of the Saturn version so it has the PSX version's worse textures for environments.
Because I'm eating breakfast. After that I'm probably going to play some Trails of Cold Steel
But I am.
FFXIV
I wish I lived in the timeline where XIV isn't an mmo, the game looks so cool but I can't stand the mmo shit
Finished doing aurica's phase 2 ending. I'm not sure if I need to do misha first as I heard it will give me more context on what happened to her or just straight do phase with shurelia. Any suggestions?
>>There's no chosen one plotline
I don't even think any game fits this, unless it's some open-world do what you want game like Tropico, Kenshi.
Disregarding that, and if you consider it an JRPG, which I do, then Vagrant Story
Misha's story is retarded, don't bother.
Don't ff7 fit the power of friendship one?
It's been a long time since I played it.
Because I'm at work.
I’m driving
Can you elaborate on that? You could also post full spoilers if you need to.
still going through wild arms 3
It's been years so I don't remember it too well but basically all of Misha's phase 2 is her throwing a tantrum about not wanting to sing despite that she's the only one who can do it while Lyner is frustratingly dense about the entire thing, and gameplay wise you spend the entire Misha section running between a few areas while nothing really happens. I'd heard people saying that Misha's route is the important one but far less happens in it than Aurica's route; you aren't missing anything by skipping it.
I remember attempting to play this and the first time you actually get to traverse the overworld literally any random encounter would straight up oneshot you or something, fucking weird
finish Aurica
return and finish Misha
end with Shurelia NTR
you DID separate saves before changing phases, right?
forgot to mention, while it's true that Aurica's route is more awesome, I really liked Misha's Cosmosphere so I say it's worth doing her route. Also the lolification.
Let me guess, you only consider action combat gameplay, not party management, turn-based combat, character building etc., right?
>it's an RPG
>made in Japan
Yes. It's an action JRPG.
I see. I'll try to look for more info if her route is a lot shorter to manage than aurica's.
Yep. I'm planning to at least unlock all the music without doing the bad/incomplete because I hate doing them.
playing ffvii for the first time then going to persona 2 IS or dqvii (ps1, already played 3ds)
it's because i hate bugmen and their degeneracy
You probably only played like an hour of a Final fantasy game, stop lying.
But I am. Started Romancing SaGa 2. Like it so far.
Haha...
Which JRPG has best chemistry between each party member?
one of these is not like the others
This game is nearly impossible if you don't have a guide to know you what npc to talk to trigger a quest.
The open ended is one of the things that make it hard.
playing Trails in the Sky, it's alright
I genuinely can't tell if some of those are real or not
because story focused games are boring as fuck and i've already beaten all of the EO series
ADD
I'm currently playing through Tales of Symphonia for the first time right now, I like it so far.
Just do it, it's worth all your time
I'm playing Underrail
Just finished my NG+ run of Persona 5 and planning on continuing Dragon Quest XI later since the Luminary is coming to Smash. I remember I dropped it because of Veronica's death. So I'm pretty much using Smash as motivation to finish the game.
>played suikoden 5 for the cute girl MC
>realized after I beat it that it was a boy all along
what the fuck was I fighting for
I'm playing 4.
FF8
FF5
Secret of Evermore
Tales of Symphonia
I pick up another when the story in one of them gets boring.
Paper Mario Thousand Year Door.
>Persona 5
>A JRPG
HA!
just registered for a random run. Gonna play the Japanese SFC version. Ah shit here we go again.
never played any of the Mana games before but the Trials of Mana trailer made me want to play one
is the remake of Secret actually decent if you don't have nostalgia for the original?
Im doing it. Actually playing Inazuma Eleven 3: Team Ogre Attack Spanish Traslation
I love the fact that you can recruit Aphrodite in the chapter 4 instead of wait until the post game or close to the final.
Have you played inazuma eleven games? (NDS and 3DS ones)
Why does nobody play Parasite Eve or pic related anymore?
because they're old as shit and anyone who liked them has already played them and no zoomer would ever touch them cause they aren't on MTV
The Valkyria Chronicles games are good for that.
I play PE at least once a year. Never played your pic though.
TWEWY?
I miss ds era, so many good JRPG.
>playing 4 jrpgs at once
>2 from the same series
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Any good Sci-fi or Kung-fu ones? Kinda board of using swords all the time. Would be nice to punch of blast something for a change.
The MC was hand picked by the ruler of that domain, and the power of friendship (and homolust) are literally what stop Joshua from destroying Shibuya. The gameplay is also extremely limited and gimmicky, no matter how badly the cult following want to pretend it's a masterpiece.
can't you play DS on a hacked vita now?
>still no release date
>promo demo at E3 had the same audio issues the unofficial undub had
Please don't fuck this up. This is literally my fav. game please god.
Only Kung-fu JRPG I can think of is Jade Empire.
Cause im at work
Playing through Valkyrie Profile without a guide but just took a quick peek at one and realized my playthrough is ruined and I cant get the true ending. At least its an excuse to replay it, im having fun
>Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?
I just woke up and I still have an affinity booster that is still active in Warframe
>Does KH3 count?
Why wouldn't KH count? Because it's action gameplay?
I'm gonna play Adventure of Mana for Vita tonight probably.
>jade empire
>jrpg
>5th day of post-game depression
I can't handle it bros. She was the purest cinnamon roll.
my vita's buttons are busted, my ps3 controller is a fake one also so I can use it for vita.
Cause I gotta go to work right now so I can get money to buy more vidya.
I am on my 3rd runthrough of Xenoblade X atm though. I almost want that to get a rerelease just so Hope can get more fanart.
Oh right Bioware. Still, played the shit out of that one.
I'm straight
Because Grandia Xtreme was meh and 3 was garbo.
Sure you are bud. We can change that.
Xtreme was way more garbo than 3. 3 at least had good combat and a cast that evoked some emotions out of you. Most of them being disgust. Xtreme was the blandest shit ever. Watching paint dry is less boring.
Thanks mate but I'm good.
>Only Kung-fu JRPG I can think of is Jade Empire.
That's a damn shame, I already played Jade Empire but that's a WRPG and kinda why I was asking. That and Mass Effect for sci-fi.
Kung-Fu would be a great theme for a JRPG there really should be some where the main guy does Kung-Fu instead of swinging a sword around. There really is a lack of Sci-Fi and Kung-Fu in JRPGs for some reason. Sometimes you don't feel like "hitting 'em with your thword" ya'know.
Kingdom of Paradise
Going by user reviews and the remake devs themselves, it's poor.
>i didnt care about the world building or npcs life story or problems
Absolute pleb opinion.
I really like Zidane/Steiner/Vivi/Garnet in FFIX
Also Xenosaga has a pretty good party once you get to the third game and learn everyone’s backstory
its boring turn based boomer trash
You'd probably have better luck looking for Chinese wuxia RPGs. As for sci-fi, there's Robotrek.
I am.
Been replaying BOF 3 and 4, Legaia 1 and 2, Suikoden 2 and currently DQ 8
SMT strange journey has a sci-fi feeling to it
>turn-based
You don't even know what the term JRPG means
>Kingdom of Paradise
>dude still uses a thword
Well I guess it's better than nothing.
To my side, my noble einherjar!
that was my jam babe
>look at picture
>robutt has a thword
I should have expected this.
I play Vagrant Story every now and then, but I don't make threads about it.
Xenogears and Xenosaga both only have 1 sword wielder but they aren’t even introduced until late game and the second entry respectively
this game was all kinds of fucked up
like fucked up translation
fucked up programming
fucked up storyline
fucked up gameplay
it's just fucked up
I need a good one on PC. Just finished Grandia 2 and i'm at a loss. I have all emulators if anyone wants to recommend one.
Because I am waiting on the Romancing SaGa 3 remaster. Otherwise no other JRPGs outside of SaGa Scarlet Grace catch my eye.
Have you played any of the Xeno games?
Emulating the first Xenoblade for Wii is a great entry point but Xenosaga and more so Xenogears are really worth going back and giving a try if you want a kino story.
turn based boring shit with little girl cartoons?
You ever play Xenogears? That's the ultimate marriage of kung-fu and sci-fi. Heck I think 2 or 3 party members fight unarmed and the combat features a combo-system.
It's also not a jRPG at all, but play Godhand. It's a 3d-perspective beat-em-up but you manually create your combo from a list of all the moves you've learned, it's my favorite game for making you actually feel like you're fighting, since it also has a nice dodge system.
I tried that once last year, wasn't really my thing. The general idea is great, but what I don't like about the 4 job fiesta is, giving the same jobs to everyone in your party makes your characters too similar.
I think, I'll adjust the rules and do a more casual version of this and make it a 4x4 job fiesta, rolling 1 job for each party member at each crystal.
Trails in the Sky trilogy
Tales of series(except Zestiria)
Hack GU Last Recode
World of Final Fantasy(only if you're somewhat of a fan of FF)
You haven't given enough info. For all I know you could've already played most of these.
Do you really recommend the story from Xenosaga? I've played every other xeno game in the series but I skipped saga because it has so many negative things said about it. I know there are heavy similarities between all the games stories, will Saga throw anything new at me if I've played the other games already?
gay
wrong
gay
gay
How is the Grandia HD Remaster looking?
Go back to dragon age tranny.
sasuga zestiriashitter
Why didn't Citan tell Fei that it was human meat?
I beat Xenosaga like two weeks ago and now I'm just starting up Fire Emblem 6.
No but this does look like pretty much exactly the kind of game I was looking for. Thanks.
Like shit. They smoothed the sprites and it runs at a higher res but the textures are the same from the original. They did literally nothing to improve the game and actually made it worse.
What are some JRPGs that aren't boring as fuck the first 2 hours and instead throw you into the story immediately? None of that "here's a 1 hour backstory cutscene before you get your first actual battle" or "you're a humble boy from a small village and oh no your village burned down while you were away" shit. I want to get to the combat within 5 minutes.
As a bonus, what are some action RPGs that aren't Tales of whatever?
SaGa is a series made by the mad man Akitoshi Kawazu. There were already other JRPG series when he finally got off of Final Fantasy II, then decided to make a RPG series for more diehard fans. So he looked at experience points and levels and said fuck that shit, then made you shove monster meat down your monsters gullet and you have no fucking clue how it even transforms and just take it in the ass because your red bull turned into a fucking fly. You deal with the hand you are dealt because Kawazu forced it on you, and you fucking like it and want more. Then he made the Romancing SaGa games and said fuck the main story. Seriously, you don't even know if you are doing the main quest, a side quest, or if they are even one in the same. Then you just get hopelessly lost in not knowing where to go for a quest, how to get a new quest, or how to accomplish a quest, but you fucking love it anyways. Then you actually start solving it on your own by accident and without a guide because you aren't a little bitch and you realize how fucking awesome the game is and it is probably the only adventure there ever will be in a JRPG. Like holy shit, are other JRPGs even trying?
>What are some JRPGs that aren't boring as fuck the first 2 hours and instead throw you into the story immediately? None of that "here's a 1 hour backstory cutscene before you get your first actual battle" or "you're a humble boy from a small village and oh no your village burned down while you were away" shit. I want to get to the combat within 5 minutes.
they don't exist. boomers love their corny shit
You're in for a great ride, user. Have fun.
>SMT strange journey
>sci-fi
>no thwords
Thanks, I'll play this too.
>giving the same jobs to everyone in your party
well you're not supposed to do that, unless you do one of the gimmick variants. When you choose from a pool of more than 6 jobs it's imo not a challenge anymore.
Star ocean 2, the characters and story are boring so far.
There is only one. Hybrid Heaven. You can also build up combos for your moves and chain them together. You also learn moves from enemies by having them perform them on you. Yes, you can do pile drivers, brain busters, and headbutt aliens.
Well, Dark Souls is a JRPG too, it checks both of your two requests.
Played through the whole series already.
Is there any good jrpg that I can play on mobile/Gameboey emulator to get into it?
I need something while traveling by train.
You should try Drakengard
Most kino moment in JRPG history?
based
Final Fantasy Legend I and II.
Ys VIII is pretty good
More kino for me as I didn't know of the cultural reference when I played this as a child.
Final Fantasy 6 has a pretty quick start, it does have an intro cutscene but you're in the game firing lasers at enemies within 5 mins of that.
as for aRPGs that's still a pretty loose term. Kingdom Hearts is a good game but that's more action and less of an RPG whereas The World Ends with You is more RPG than action.
>None of that "here's a 1 hour backstory cutscene before you get your first actual battle" or "you're a humble boy from a small village and oh no your village burned down while you were away" shit. I want to get to the combat within 5 minutes.
Wild Arms 2 starts you right into 3 different missions in combat with each MC. Then after that you get the standard jrpg intro as the story sets up.
I don't know what you want. Most big rpgs need to set up a story if they want a world with even a modicum of depth to it.
Saga is the biggest case of missed potential in the series, which is saying a lot considering Xeno is pretty much built on missed potential.
Saga 1 has the best directing and storytelling, but the character models are ugly, the gameplay drags toward the end and there’s a grand total of maybe 4 songs that ever play outside of cutscenes. Most dungeon crawling is done with sparse ambience which really doesn’t help when the game already drags.
Saga 2 was given to a different team and resulted in shitty character redesigns and, in the English version, some bad VA changes. However I much prefer 2’s battle system and the presence of music during gameplay. The fact that it’s only 20 hours prevents it from dragging like the first game as well.
Saga 3 is where the team finally managed to get their shit together and provide nice graphics, a large but high quality sound track, and a story feels more eventful than 2. But since they had to cram 3 games in one the storytelling still isn't as good as the first game overall, though it does have some standout moments.
As for the overall plot, I think it does have some interesting things that Gears either didn’t touch on or didn’t go into much depth with. I think Gears is the better game overall, but at the same time I have no doubts that Saga would have been better if they could’ve fulfilled their original vision. I spent $100 for the trilogy after playing Gears last year and don’t regret it, so I’d say it’s at least worth a shot emulating the undubs.
Unlimited is much more of a filter than MS.
Still a great game, wish ER wasn't so strict though, RS3 was too lax but MS has the opposite problem.
youtube.com
>has a shitton of skills to upgrade
>like 3 of them are actually useful
Just like my gaijin RPGs.
Isn't Grandia way too long? Like at least twice too long? Like 120 hours, half of it feeling it like a drag?
Magic or phys. this playthrough?
The default ruleset states everyone gets the same job until they get the job they've actually been assigned(you get to the next crystal). So maybe he doesn't know you're supposed to switch when you're able.
That is DQVII
Nah, That's Xenoblade 2.
user, you should be arrested for recommending that game to anyone. I remember when I was a kid I traded my copy for another kids Banjo Kazooie, I warned him ahead of time that the game wasn't that good but he was bored of his game. He came in on the Monday crying about how shit the game was and we traded back.
Hybrid Heaven makes children cry, don't endorse this.
>not pic related at the beginning of disc 2
>not finally getting through babel tower and being greeted by the best track in the game
>not chuchu getting huge and becoming a party member for no reason
This one
finally someone that agrees with me. The gameplay in the original Nier was actually thought out and fun to use the grimoir book spells.
Nier Automata bored me to death and was basically an inferior rehash of the original nier.
>This game is nearly impossible if you don't have a guide to know you what npc to talk to trigger a quest
I beat it blind. No quest guides, no mechanic guides. Hell I even beat Unlimited Saga blind.
It is amazing how this is just leaps and bounds better than any other JRPG I have played. I hope no ones else in the genre is trying because too many games in that series are stellar, and that one just has an excellent blend of mechanics and exploration. No other video game gave me that sense of adventure. People think an adventure is some sort of theme park with everything laid out for you. No. Romancing SaGa is an adventure, it is hidden in there and you have to fight tooth and nail to wrest it from the game.
Magic lacks high single target DPS in TLR, so forget doing a pure magic playthrough if you want to do everything, some stuff like The Lost is pretty much impossible unless you kind of cheat and use weapon arts on people like Wyngale, who start with weapon levels high enough to not need to use physical attacks.
On the other hand, battles with lots of large unions are trivialized if you have a lot of magic users.
XCX. I want to play, but the dub puts me off. What do? I was so disappointed when it came out, that i didn't touch my wiiu since.
What do you mean by skills to upgrade? There is a reason to be proficient in many weapons due to stat down skills tied to certain weapons and other AoE attacks.
All the Xenoposting in this thread makes me very happy.
What is so bad about Hybrid Heaven? Better than most JRPGs I have played. You get to run around, jump, go through the environment, and combat was a blast.
I could not figure out how to level up in that game
My big issue with it was that movement was slow and it used a wrestling-styled grappling system. Furthermore I recall the game feeling really linear, you go into a room, suplex an alien and use the keycard on the door right in front of you to encounter the next alien, etc. Perhaps I'm not being fair but on paper it should have made me super excited but it didn't, N64 controller probably didn't help matters.
>The gameplay in the original Nier was actually thought out
Are you out of your fucking mind? It was the most braindead combat I've ever seen in a real time combat game.
>Nier Automata bored me to death and was basically an inferior rehash of the original nier.
Nevermind, you're just an idiot that's mad Automata was popular.
JRPG with heavy story and preferably the one with cool twist?
You know I wasn't asking specifically for Sci-Fi Kung-fu but like Kung-fu and Sci-Fi but both these recommendations have been Sci-Fi Kung-fu.
I was thinking there had to be some JRPG out there where you play a guy like Ryu and you go around punching dudes learning new Kung-fu styles and combos along the way. Using your Chi as a stand in for mana. That kinda thing.
SaGa games were the only game series out there who actually did get what the classic Ultima games were about, it's kind of sad that even the west largely misunderstood that and rather focused on the immersive sim aspects of the later Ultima like 7 instead of providing an actual adventure in a world crafted to feel alive and believable.
Coupled with Kawazu being a hardcore tabletop nerd who made his own homebrews, it's not surprising the games are so focused on making you truly feel immersed in a world and have a real adventure, as in you're just dropped there and Kawazu tells you to fucking stop asking questions and just DO THINGS HOLY SHIT.
Having excellent mechanical depth is just the cherry on top, can't believe the madman came up with that god system where gods actually exist and function as such.
I already beat The Lost and his other versions with magic playthrough?
There was a period some years back when we had constant threads mainly about Xenogears \ Chronicles and they were really nice. It was virtually the only thread on the board that didn't have constant waifu feuds or shitposting. There was plenty of wonderful theory crafting about cut story arcs and future sequel ideas, certain games bring the best people together.
By using your skills over and over again. The more you use a body part the stronger it gets. If body parts get hit they could level up in defense as well.
You did have the ability to run and do mini dashes during combat, though it does slow down once either you or the enemy initiates an action but by then it is like turn based JRPG move selection. It is a very linear game, but it is a focused one which is what I enjoy about it as well.
How many worms did you grind?
Surely you could emulate a SNES or PS1 DQ game?
>learning new Kung-fu styles
Don't know about this one
>go around punching dudes
Legend of Legaia
Well there's Legend of Legaia too. That has a combo system like Xenogears but is based around magic parasites. IIRC all three of the main characters use martial arts mixed with magic.
Explain why the franchise is currently in gutter then
Any specific themes you enjoy? Some of the stories I've been surprised by:
>Valkyrie Profile 1 + 2 (get the true ending for 1)
>Bravely Default
>Xenoblade Chronicles 1 + 2
>Desertpedo
Disc 2 was a mistake.
Thanks that works too.
So any specifically sci-fi ones beside the one user already dropped? Basically the only things I'm trying to avoid is medieval fantasy and swords.
How did they manage to make an unfinished PS1 game so fucking kino?
I will never stop Xenoposting til the day I die
The gameplay in og Nier was shit anons. The only things it had going for it were cool-looking magic and more genre-shifts; the actual combat that you spend most of the game with is just better in Automata. Try replaying the game.
Nier easily has better music and a better story, so I can see preferring the original overall, but gameplay is one area you really can't argue.
Scarlet Grace localization reveal put SaGa on my radar, maybe I should give Minstrel Song another shot.
I remember trying it once and being totally fucking lost. I really like the idea of an open-ended experience that encourages experimentation though, and that was my favorite aspect of XBX.
Xeno games. Blades have enjoyable gameplay unlike Gears and the first Saga game, but Gears and Saga are where the stories shine.
Alternatively Nier is fantastic.
Not that user, and I personally love the game, but XB2. XBX started the downward spiral with its censorship, then Shulk being in Smash made things worse, before XB2 totally killed any chance of a good discussion on this board.
Phatnasy Star comes to mind but I think it's just scifi fantasy with swords
It sucks because the things that make it so great are often the reasons why people hate the games. It is amusing, someone would point out a mechanic or the method of progression as a flaw, when it is one of the numerous reasons why I enjoy the series so much, and RS:MS in particular.
>stop asking questions and just DO THINGS
The problem is if you don't talk to the right people ro do the right things then you can't "progress". So all that happens is you have a standard RPG that requires you to use a guide because it's more open-ended that a normal, linear rpg.
because they're boring af and im not some autismal reddit cocksucker
You have to go back.
>How did they manage to make an unfinished PS1 game so fucking kino?
presentation.
But also where all the good stuff happens. The game was pretty trite up until you accidentally turn half the NPCs into a cronenberg monsters. Whoops.
If Xenogear was actually good, it won't lose to FF7 back then.
Smash's DQ trailer hit me right in the nostalgia so I'm replaying my favourite ones, so III, IV, V, VII, VIII, IX and by the time I'm done, XI-Definitive should be out.
>Nier easily has better music and a better story
Even this I don't agree on. I liked the story in both games, but Automata did more with the overall storytelling. I think people like to forget how repetitive the sidequest stories in Nier were. Seriously, how many of them were "Can you find my lost loved one for me?" only to end with you finding them, after they died, while they were trying to run away from the person that sent you after them? Compare that to something like the vagrant couple in Automata which ended with this song here
youtube.com
I still love Nier, but Automata's gameplay and level design shit all over it, and the story and music are just as good, if not better in places.
Super Mario RPG
Star Ocean 2 comes highly recommended. I think the main character uses a gun and it's as sci-fi as it comes. I've never played it but it's often recommended to me for having a cool skill-system.
>I remember trying it once and being totally fucking lost.
Welcome to SaGa. From Romancing SaGa and onward it is a normal feeling, even with people that have many SaGa games under their belt. Sure I may have beaten SaGa Frontier, Romancing SaGa remake, and Unlimited Saga, but I was still fumbling around with the Romancing SaGa 2 remaster in where I wanted to go or how to complete or even initiate certain steps in a quest. It is part of the experience, and it is rewarding finding your own way.
It's where the good stuff happens, but that stuff gets summarized in slide shows and overshadowed by tons of copious character drama that dominates the disc 2. And then there's the problem of the gameplay getting shittier than it already was on disc 1.
Which one?
Treasure of the Rudras
>Eyepatch knight has to win a battle tournament while chasing an awakened Giant
>Scholar accidently unleashes an ancient evil while doing research and has to fix it
>Girl trying to fix environmental pollution
Majority of quests aren't essential in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song. Maybe what ever starting quests you need to get the certain character you have out of their starting land and the final boss. It is one of the things that makes the game so great.
This, five doesn't get enough love. Probably because they made it a tad stressful with the resets thing, but that ended up greatly contributing to creating an atmosphere of danged and oppression.
Xenogears almost was FF7.
FF7 even used much of the early story beats from Takahashi's early draft which is why there are so many similarities between the two. They're very much siblings.
I bought DQI on android yesterday. Only ever played VII when it came out, never beat it though.
Anything I should know about the first game before I play, other than it's old and archaic as fuck?
Just completed DQ11 a while back, absolute masterpiece. Hard to follow something like that up, but I'm thinking about starting Ys 8.
Rude...
I thought it was supposed to be FFVIII.
Metal Max
>So all that happens is you have a standard RPG that requires you to use a guide
>Talking to NPCs requires to use a guide
Literally millions of people beat all the games in the series without using guides, even Unlimite.
Scarlet Grace, the latest mainline, was almost completely disassembled in one month with the combined effort of hundreds of thousands of players who got together and kept sharing information, tips and their own experiences in their playthroughs.
People forget how the social element of games was that, sharing info, talking with your friends about the games, SaGa games are made with that in mind, talking with other people about what happened during your playthrough so people would not just wonder what would happen by taking a different route or a different choice, but also put 1 and 1 together and figure out how things work.
Some of the finer and more subtle things will stay unclear until someone gets a guide or hacks the game, but none of those things are noteworthy outside of minmaxing, which is completely unnecessary.
Hell, even with guides it took people around TWENTY YEARS to get a more or less complete understanding of how Romancing SaGa 2 or 3 work.
Can anyone recommend RPG's that are character driven, rather than plot driven? I've recently played Valkyrie Profile and Suikoden 2 and really enjoyed the character exposition parts, so I'd like more of that. I'd also prefer the tone of the game to not be comedy based but I'll take what i can get.
I guess loosely, games that require you to do a small qust to recruit a party members are good targets, even tactics games like Tactics Ogre\FFT. You learn a bit about the character in doing so, which is nice.
I value Disc 2 more than I value Disc 1. Disc 1 is a dime a dozen JRPG I can find done better multiple times over. Disc 2 is a one of a kind.
Absolute kino atmosphere, wish there is another game with similar setting (trapped in small, futuristic "world" trying to get outside)
Busy busting my ass off in Banjo-Tooie. Jolly Roger's is a weird level.
chrono stones here user, good games.
>Cloud gives a friendship speech at the end of the game
>Everyone makes fun of him
>Let's mosey
A one of a kind mess.
no crack for octopath
>Anything I should know about the first game before I play, other than it's old and archaic as fuck?
All of the best gear is completely optional.
One is in the final dungeon
One in a destroyed town
I forgot where the last piece is
>sharing info, talking with your friends about the games
Games have been designed around that for a while. Guides are just the final step in evolution of that. First we talked with friends around us. Then we talked with people online. Then we pooled info and organized it online. Then people wrote up detailed guides.
Well, that's the entire problem.
Sure, I can get to the point of having a single Cachexia hit for around 100K, but how much did I have to grind for that? And I should also be on NG+ to avoid even more grind for the weapons.
You can play the game however you like, Rush solo runs are a thing, but the problem is, is it worth grinding worms for literal dozens of hours to pull that shit? The only one who decides that is you.
Unfortunately, magic is by design geared to provide utilities more than single target DPS, so while you can eventually bypass that, you have to consider how much you value your time.
Xenogears Myth orchestral album FLAC + CUE
mega.nz
Nah, Xenogears started out as a pitch for FF7 after Takahashi and his future wife finished up work on FF6. They were turned down because their story idea was deemed too dark for Final Fantasy. They were given the go ahead on making it though as a stand alone game.
>Anything I should know about the first game before I play
have a threesome with the town slut and the princess.
your MC uses a gun AND a sword
I'm playing Pokemon W2 and SMT: Strange Journey on my DS.
Only jrpg I've really loved was skies of Arcadia. I'll never find something like it again.
I just semi finished FFX. my problem with like all jrpgs is that they always overextend their welcome. Every single time.
There's romance in the first DQ?
Octopath is an obvious recent one, in that there isn't much of an overrarching story, each of the 8 characters has their own personal storyline to explore
I am though. The music in this area is smooth as hell.
>have any form of criticism for Automata that isn't "I wish it was LONGER because it was so epic!"
>get called "bait" every time by at least one person
The game got memed into mainstream popularity and 70% of its fanbase are easily impressed teenagers that never touched anything in the medium beyond the surface-level stuff so they regard it as gods gift to gaming. I wouldn't even mind it if these people weren't so full of themselves and obnoxious, its on the same level as Undertale
>my problem with like all jrpgs is that they always overextend their welcome. Every single time.
Nah, that's really not all of them at all. There are some that definitely give that feeling, but not many of them are like that. FFX is overrated to begin with. If you're going to play FF games, shoot for IV-IX. Those 6 are all great. The first 3 are pretty good as well, especially the remasters/updated versions.
play the game and find out, dumb emoji poster.
I was playing Grandia and i kinda got bored
I've never played a breath of fire game and I kinda wanna check one out. People here saying 3 is the best, is it a self contained story like Final Fantasy or do I need to play 1/2 first?
i'm playing xenoblade on the 3ds
>Pretend you have real criticisms of the game
>The only things you say are "I'm angry that it's popular" and "Real fans of Nier hate it because of reasons I can't really explain well"
I won't deny it's a mess, but I appreciate a failed attempt at a magnum opus way more than a success that was prosaic and safe.
I'd take 100 disc 2s over a disc 1.
>in 1 you canonically fuck the princess
>in 2 Moonbrooke is literally party cumdump (blood relation makes it even hotter)
>in 3, you canonically fuck someone to make 1 and 2 happen
>in 4, Torneko is happily married
>in 5, marrying is part of the plot
>in 6, lol who the fuck play 6
>in 7, (young)Maribel has thing with Keifer (in manga), in game also has tsundere lines for Arus
>in 8, you marry at the end
>in 9 and 10, you are a dickless angel
>in 11, Gemma.
Well I fucked that spoiler up
>but I just like the first game's concept more with the gestalts and replicants,
I love both main story concepts equally, but the presentation of Automata and its sidequests put it over the top.
>dad/daughter
No. He's her onii-chan. Always has been. Shitty localizations are irrelevant.
They're self-contained. 3 is a very good entry. I personally think 4 is the best but you won't be disappointed starting with 3. 1 and 2 are ok but very standard rpg's, so it's your call if you want to play them. Enjoy.
agreed. RPGs that are manufactured to please everyone are the most boring thing imaginable. It's clear that Xenogears would be controversial and I loved it.
I've had an itch to play a jRPG for a while now. Tried Radiant Historia, but it feels like I'm playing a VN with the occasional battle thrown in rather than an actual jRPG.
Maybe I'll play Chrono Trigger while I wait for FF7 to go on sale next week.
>pic related
Yeah, I don't mind the simplicity just because it's on my phone, I hate playing complex games on it because of touchscreen.
Fantastic
Whenever I sit down and play one I find myself wishing I were writing scripts/stories for them than sitting there playing one. They also require too much investment for me, these days
Side quests in the first game were awful, I'm talking about main story. Automata had better presentation of the story, but I just like the first game's concept more with the gestalts and replicants, and how its just a dad/brother trying to save his daughter/sister.
Both had 11/10 soundtracks I just found something to be more memorable about the original. Might in part be because Automata has dynamic music meaning you spend a lot of time not hearing the full pieces.
>muh brother-nier
You're acting like papa-Nier wasn't released in Japan as well. They chose to only localize that version because they thought it meshed better with Western culture and I agree, Japs value a brother/sister relationship a lot more than Americans do. That also explains why Taro said brother-Nier is the "canon" version.
I guess my main hesitation is how it punishes you. The thing I really liked about XCX is it encourages experimentation to the point that when you die you lose no progress and are just teleported back to the nearest location. I really hate playing a game for an hour only to die and lose all my progress.
Are you me? I usually hate mobile games but I did the same and am pleasantly surprised by how great a fit the game is due to its simplicity.
From what I can tell just talk to everyone since they give hints on where to go next, and torches are for use in caves so you can see more than a centimeter in front of you. And don't be afraid to grind a bit.
Legend of Mana is great, and I hear good things about Radiata Stories as well. Both of those are a little more lighthearted though.
But I am
Based and keen edge of justicepilled.
>You're acting like papa-Nier wasn't released in Japan as well.
Putting "muh" in front of something won't make it right. The real version is brother Nier. That's the version referenced in the official guidebooks, and even though it was possible to play the dad version in Japan (no one did) Automata only referenced the real version with the brother. Localizations are irrelevant and only serve to ruin jrpgs.
Well I have plenty to play but I'm busy playing Lobcorp right now.
Have DQIX and PQ2.
>but I appreciate a failed attempt at a magnum opus way more than a success that was prosaic and safe
Imagine being so pretentious you want something more than a good video game from a JRPG.
Kawazu confirmed in a Famitsu interview that the RS3 remaster is going to have a new dungeon as well as other additions.
famitsu.com
FOUL THIEFmind
This galaxy will never get a true mecha JRPG with kungfu ever again.
who are you talking about?
Okay guys help me out here. There's this 1 RPG that i remember only playing for like 20 minutes before i knew how to even read english and could never find it ever again.
The game started in some village with a mountain on it that nobody should even go on. You for some reason go up there anyways and not even 5 minutes in all hell breaks loose. The game was 16 bit, probably SNES so it's not Golden Sun that's for sure...
That would be you, user.
That isn't a problem in SaGa. You can make a hard save at the inn along with saving pretty much where you want mid dungeon. It has been a feature since the Gameboy games.
Seriously no one told this guy about Resonance of Fate?
I didn't say any of that shit but you're basically proving me right because you immediately start your strawman with
>"pretend to have criticism"
as if its simply inconceivable that someone would have "valid criticism" in the first place
I have no clue. Breath of Fire II? Though you go in a cave for that.
>I didn't say any of that shit but you're basically proving me right because you immediately start your strawman
>The game got memed into mainstream popularity and 70% of its fanbase are easily impressed teenagers that never touched anything in the medium beyond the surface-level stuff
Sorry, I forgot that only you're allowed to pull stuff out of your ass and that when anyone throws it back at you, they're just using "logical fallacies".
Please recommend me something close to skies of Arcadia.
I also liked okami, Zelda wind waker, my favorite 2d snes rpg was seiken de-- of mana 3, I didn't care for ff6 or chrono trigger. Grandia 2 looked too generic to me. Ni no kuni looks good to me but I don't have a ps3. That should give you an idea of the kind of tone I'm looking for. Feeling of adventure and SOUL, charming comfy towns and cast, but not too weebish.
I liked the styles of Ff9 and golden sun but never finished them.
>wants to pretend
>implying
Galachad's eyebrow wiggle makes this 10x better
Cool, sounds like my kinda game.
Is Minstrel Song a good starting point? I also have a DS flashcard and a CFW Vita so I got a lot of options.
There's no implication. The game is aggressively mediocre on all fronts. It's nowhere close to a masterpiece.
>I guess my main hesitation is how it punishes you.
No pain, no gain, that's what they say.
Besides, SaGa games allow you to save anywhere, anytime since their inception, one of the most important reminder we give to newfriends is to always remember to save on multiple save files to avoid losing progress, SaGa games do not hold punches and you have to earn your shit.
Scarlet Grace is more forgiving in that since unless you manage to completely deplete all your party's LP you won't incur in a hard game over and the game has a separate autosave slot that covers your ass every time you initiate a battle, but at the same time, if you really can't beat a battle you'll have to give up and restart before that, which means any gain you made in said battle is lost.
Any recommendations of Jrpgs with with great battle systems? Watching stuff about the FF7 remake got me interested
Xenoblade Chronicles
If you are willing to be hopelessly lost then why not, but I personally had to reset my file a few times before it clicked with me. If that sounds too daunting then there is still SaGa Frontier and Romancing SaGa 2.
>aggressively mediocre
>I have no actual arguments whatsoever so I’ll just spout shit to make myself look intelligent
Depends on what you're looking for, mechanical depth, action integration, elegance in design, unique system and concepts?
What specifically are you looking for?
Galahad is so fun is MS, they really nailed that paladin feel with him.
>Sorry, I forgot that only you're allowed to pull stuff out of your ass and that when anyone throws it back at you, they're just using "logical fallacies".
You argue like an utter faggot
And you're retarded to boot. I was talking about the discussions surrounding the game and its fanbase at a meta-level and not raising any of criticisms of the game itself and somehow that translated into the usual strawmen for you
but nice punctuation and girly passive-agressiveness fag, no shit you love the game so much
Because I just finished Tokyo Mirage Sessions last week and need a break from jrpgs before starting another one
It warms my heart when I see SaGa fans on this god forsaken site.
>I have no actual arguments whatsoever
The story is boring and doesn't really make sense right from the get go. The character all know about the reaper game but are somehow angry about being given a chance to come back to life? Most of the playable characters are interesting when Neku isn't busy being an angsty bitch, but Joshua is an annoying faggot. The map is incredibly limited and gameplay offers no freedom of exploration or choice with how you progress, and there aren't any sidequests. The music is okay, but some of the songs are stupid and the way the game is set up, you only hear most songs for 15 seconds at a time before they switch. The battle system is just gimmick shit. It's not fun. I'm sure you're going to go on and on about how Nomura's faggot style is totally awesome, and being different automatically makes the game good.
Oh yeah sorry meant to say something more on the actiony side. I haven’t be able to get through most jrpgs I’ve attempted, I really liked ff crystal chronicles and SMT devil summoner for ps2
Have lots of fun user
Main character's gun is a skill and he loses soon after starting. Star Ocean is Star Trek in that you may start off sci-fi, but you'll be stuck on a medieval planet swinging swords. But you can get Opera who uses an energy rifle so there's that.
Rogue Galaxy
Lost Odyssey
Last Remanent
Valkyrie Profile 2
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Help I’m playing Chrono trigger and when I use techs I can’t tell how much MP I’m using. There’s a big number and a dash and a little number but sometimes there isn’t a little number. And does dual tech use MP from both characters? Is there a way to see how much MP it’s costing the other character?
I’m a retard
falcom shills are really the worst, huh
>You argue like an utter faggot
You're the absolute fucking king of faggots. You're probably gargling cum right now. You whined like a faggot about the fanbase, pulled numbers out of your ass, and then when I said that you were an idiot who was mad the game was popular (which you objectively are) you started crying about logical fallacies just like every other pseudo-intellectual mouthbreathing retard from reddit.
>I-It was just meta level commentary!
No, you're just a dumb faggot.
>nto the usual strawmen
Literally the only people that complain about this are underage faggots from reddit desperate to sound smart and logical.
>punctuation and not talking like a retard is for girls!
I know this is going to come as a shock to you, but this site wasn't always overrun with subhuman ESLfags and phoneposters.
Looking forward to the remaster, hope it's good. Also going to play Dragon Quest 11 once I finish Baldur's Gate 1&2. Last JRPG I played was Berseria so looking forward to it.
They took too long to finish, +60% is talking and fighting repetitive fights just to lvl up.
SaGa Frontier is your best bet
Can someone recommend some JRPGs with depressing or bittersweet stories? Those are my favorite kind of stories.
>The gameplay in og Nier was shit anons.
Sure, but Automata was even worse, since it dumbed down the combat even further and replaced guarding with a dodge that's even more overpowered than guarding in Nier was, and enemy animations being readable was ditched in favour of red flashes to warn of all attacks. Plus Automata completely threw out the entire fishing system when that was actually decent in Nier if you weren't a retard who fished at the wrong spot and hated the system for it.
Playing Final fantasy tactics on my phone. Works well after getting used to the controls which took some time.
>I was talking about the discussions surrounding the game and its fanbase at a meta-level
>strawman
You have to go back.
>Is Minstrel Song a good starting point?
MS is hard for a newcomer, unless you have some real determination and are willing to learn from a lot of mistakes, you probably won't have a good time with it, it's made as both a remake of the original SNES game and a compilation orf sorts of all the mechanics the series came up with up to that point, and more.
I suggest you to to start with the DS remakes first, they're linear but they still teach you a lot of the basics in both battle systems and mainstay mechanics, they're also pretty short and easy so you should be able to finish either one in 20 hours or so with no problems.
On your Vita you can play the PS games and RS2, but RS2 is one of the more open and more challenging games in the series, so again, it's up to you to see if you can deal with it, Frontier 1 is a better entry for beginners, while 2 is one of the more unique entries and a bit more unforgiving than 1 in the long run.
Vandal Hearts 2
Nier, first one
>since it dumbed down the combat even further
I know that the people who hate Automata are deluded, but holy shit.
>Plus Automata completely threw out the entire fishing system
At least play the fucking game instead of watching a 5 minute youtube video and then crying.
Paper Mario series
Valkyrie Profile series
TWEWY
Tales of series
FF Type 0
Souls series
Dragon's Dogma
But I am. I'm replaying through Xenoblade 2. Just reached chapter 9
I really want to, but I got drift on my left stick, so I had to send in my controller to Sony, and now I'm waiting for a new one. It's been nine days, user, I want to play games
Are you Japanese?
Lufia 2
RUBEDO
>I know that the people who hate Automata are deluded, but holy shit.
Nice argument.
>At least play the fucking game instead of watching a 5 minute youtube video and then crying.
Are you retarded or did you never actually fish in Nier to understand the problem? Yes Automata still has fishing, but in Automata it's just casting your line and pressing confirm when the hook bobs, that's it, that's the entire fishing system in Automata. Nier had an actual fishing system with proper gameplay to it which was again, entirely thrown out in Automata.
I just picked up SMT IV:A again after a break or playing non-RPGs. Just got my ass handed to me by Odin but got a full set of new gear afterwards. I can’t seem to make a demon with Mediarama to pass on to my MC. Meanwhile he’s loaded up with the four elemental -dyne spells so I may end up skipping straight to Mediarahan or Salvation at this rate.
Was on a 2 year jrpg kick. Now I'm playing Baldur's Gate.
Because I cant stand shitty plots, too much fanservice and mashing a button to go through random battles.
I think you'd really like Chrono Cross. It's a very colourful game with lots of exploration, it's a little open-ended, or rather there are tons of side-quests to recruit characters. Give it a shot, and try to recruit as many characters as you can be bothered to, it'll take you all over the world.
Pic related, a potential party member.
You sure? Cover art looks like a typical medieval fantasy looking Wizard with a knife on his hip and the second image result is a guy in armor holding a sword.
I'm on the final dungeon in DDS. Don't know if I should jump into DDS2, go through the Xenosaga series, or finally play Raidou
Is the Collection of Mana worth getting if youve never played one of the games before or are the "new" versions bad?
>The story is boring and doesn't really make sense right from the get go.
Subjective and the game is nowhere near as convoluted as you make it out to be.
>The character all know about the reaper game but are somehow angry about being given a chance to come back to life?
Being forced to fight soul-destroying graffiti monsters against your will as well as dealing with the revelation that you’re dead will make most people understandably angry, yes.
>Most of the playable characters are interesting when Neku isn't busy being an angsty bitch, but Joshua is an annoying faggot.
Neku stops being an angsty bitch around day 5 or so and congrats, you got the entire point of Joshua’s character, what was actually acting that way to piss Neku off.
>The map is incredibly limited
And you somehow missed the entire point of the Reaper’s Game and why it is that way.
>gameplay offers no freedom of exploration or choice with how you progress, and there aren't any sidequests.
>what are the Secret Reports and Tin Pin Slammer?
>The music is okay, but some of the songs are stupid and the way the game is set up, you only hear most songs for 15 seconds at a time before they switch.
>implying multiple battle themes are a bad thing
>implying you just don’t have shit taste
>The battle system is just gimmick shit. It's not fun.
So I’m guessing all of the people that enjoy the battle system are just secretly lying to themselves, huh? This is one of the stupidest arguments you can make in that regard.
>I'm sure you're going to go on and on about how Nomura's faggot style is totally awesome, and being different automatically makes the game good.
Nice projection there, bud. I’m a fan of traditional games as much as the next guy but I genuinely love TWEWY for just being a really good game. Hell, I don’t even like Nomura all that much.
>Nice argument.
>they dumbed it down with more ranged combat options, weapon switching, alternating combos, and air juggles
You're a fucking retard.
>Are you retarded or did you never actually fish in Nier to understand the problem?
I 100%d both games. You have not played through Automata. These are facts. The fact that you're pretending the spots you fish in Automata don't matter make it obvious.
YS VIII
Sounds like Xenoblade 2 to me.
I will never understand why people love to misrepresent other peoples arguments on a website where you literally just have to scroll up for a second to see what someone actually said. Or greentext someone's supposed argument, except making it sound like it was uttered like a retard and even adding nonsensical exclamation points to make your hypothetical person sound even dumber than you're already making them up to be. Keep doing that shit if you want but any semi-intelligent person can just click on whatever post you replied to and read that you're basically talking out of your ass.
You have no idea, user.
I hope you like mecha and Kamen Rider because boy, you're in for a ride.
>Subjective
No.
>nowhere near as convoluted as you make it out to be.
I never even implied that the whole story is convoluted. I said the premise and the way everyone acted at the start didn't make sense, because it doesn't. If you can't read, you're too stupid to bother arguing with.
>It's supposed to be angsty and faggoty and not have any exploration or options!
Just kill yourself.
> once I finish Baldur's Gate 1&2.
That's what I'm doing right now, first time just hit this tower full of traps out in the wilderness and it's kicking my ass which is actually welcome change of pace because everything else has been a cakewalk so far. I'm still kinda down on it but I think this tower is slowly changing my opinion.
>The fact that you're pretending the spots you fish in Automata don't matter make it obvious.
But I didn't say or imply that.
Thanks friends
>Starts as the best class in the game
>Never wanders around, always found in the same spot so don't have to waste time searching for him in pubs
>Gives you the Ice Sword for free so you don't need to waste 20k on it
>Highest LP in the game
>Top tier HP, Str, and Vit growths to compliment his role as tank
>Good Compassion too, for when everybody dies and he needs to bring them back up as well as to help him deflect attacks
but people who want an easy Netherworld ending almost always choose to kill him instead
>I will never understand why people love to misrepresent other peoples arguments
>The only things you say are "I'm angry that it's popular"
>The game got memed into mainstream popularity and 70% of its fanbase are easily impressed teenagers that never touched anything in the medium beyond the surface-level stuff so they regard it as gods gift to gaming.
You can stop pretending your post was misinterpretted or that you have a point now. You're an angry idiot. You're not fooling anyone.
>local pawnshop has copy of EVO for snes for $120
>mfw considering it
Finish FFIX, it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.
Frontier looks neat, I'll try that.
How's Frontier 2? Those graphics are sexy as hell.
Seconding OG Nier, but Automata is decent as well.
Dragon Quest V has a story that's simple but sincere and ends up being really touching.
I was in your boat and the game's are very enjoyable, even the GB entry has its charm. It just comes down to whether you mind spending $40 on some roms.
On one hand its $40 for some old games, but on the other these are 3 great games that'll last you awhile.
>suggesting cross without even mentioning the music
user, what are you doing?
Mojo best party member
They could have at least put Digital Museum in this to give us more Grandia 1.
>sperging out this much
>doesn’t even know what subjective means
>somehow misses why being forced to destroy monsters against your will or be killed is something most people wouldn’t like to deal with
Lmao, struck a nerve there?
>But I didn't say or imply that.
>Automata completely threw out the entire fishing system
>if you weren't a retard who fished at the wrong spot
Both games required you to fish at certain spots. You claimed Automata threw out the whole system, and brought up that Nier required you to fish certain areas, which is something Automata didn't do. Yes, you very much implied that Automata didn't require that.
>B-But I didn't mean that!
Fuck off and actually play the game.
>Grandia 2 looked too generic to me
You don't know what you're missing lad.
Still, not nearly adventurous as the 1st one, maybe not at all honestly. Skies literally took insiration from the 1st Grandia.
DQIV > DQV
You could have fixed it yourself, it's a really common issue but fortunately an easy fix.
>Lmao
I knew people pretending TWEWY is a masterpiece were idiots, but damn.
>sperging out this much
But you're the one who wrote a wall of text screaming "It's supposed to be shit because of the story!"
I really love this scene. It's peak 90s JRPG presentation and writing.
>somehow doesn’t get why getting Erased or be forced to kill shit is something most people wouldn’t like to do
>misunderstands TWEWY’s basic premise
>calling anyone else the idiot
Just take the L, goddamn.
The tower has a nice story to it. Enjoy.
>You're an angry idiot. You're not fooling anyone.
And then everyone clapped.
.
Really? I mostly see retards complaining that their "criticisms" about how everyone who likes automata does so because of their dicks are discarded immediately.
Do you really think that's unfair retard?
You could always try to state your complaints that you cry about being discarded here but I'm sure you won't.
>explaining why someone is an idiot or missing the point of a game is somehow sperging out
This your first day on Yea Forums or something?
>doesn’t get why getting Erased or be forced to kill shit
As opposed to literally being dead and having no chance to come back?
>misunderstands TWEWY’s basic premise
Literally never happened, you dumb faggot.
>calling anyone else the idiot
Yes, you are "the" idiot.
>Just take the L, goddamn.
Right back at you. The game is shit, and all you've done is say "Well I happen to like shit because it's a different kind of shit and I'm a faggot so I think it looks cool!"
Lufia 1, 2 and 3
Turn Based combat is boring no matter how good the music and story are..
>missing the point
How fucking stupid do you have to be to think that disliking something means you don't understand it? Saying something was the point of a game doesn't excuse those aspects from being shit. Anyways, you type like a dumb ESLnigger so nothing you say matters.
SaGa Frontier 2 is the SaGa game that is a lot more story focused, as in it actually has story in the forefront like a standard JRPG. Though there is a complaint with many people that have to start the game from scratch when they get to the final dungeon because they simply aren't strong enough.
>How's Frontier 2?
Frontier 2 is particular because it's the only game in the series made with a strong story focus, relative to how SaGa's narrative is usually handled anyway.
It is similar to RS2 in a way because the game works on a generational system in which you play as different generations of characters, but this time the game is effectively "linear", as in you don't have a lot of player input in how the story develops, but rather, you can play different, self contained scenarios in a non linear chronological order.
The game is written and designed as a history chronicle covering the stories of two characters that are the opposites of each other, but live in the same world, those stories eventually intertwine at times, and you'll also play as other side characters related to both of those "main" protagonists, the game is also very much structured as a theater play of sort, and is very dramatic in terms of narrative, it's pretty unique and you'll probably end up crying quite a bit because it's not really a happy story.
Gameplay wise, it's a transition game, it takes up all the advancements made with Frontier 1 and gives a good polish to it all while reintroducing older key mechanics like weapon durability and adding a lot of other new ideas like the Duel Mode, different currencies, elemental channeling, Quells vs Tools, cross combos and whatever else, at the same time it's also unique because it lacks a few key mechanics such as BR and the party size goes from five to four party members, which is a bit disappointing, due to the game's closed scenario based progression and not having BR it also requires you to play more carefully than other games, there's also some notable difficulty spikes here and there and the narrative is hard to follow due to the cast size and the minimalistic narrative, so you'll have to pay extra attention even compared to other games.
It's a good game, but also very unique even in the series' context.
> start the game from scratch when they get to the final dungeon because they simply aren't strong enough.
That can happen? Holy shit. Is there a reason you can't just grind a little before you enter?
You are a complete moron. It is you who should kill themselves. Spare us these retarded "arguments" please.
>"arguments"
The sad part is that in your tiny little head, you think this made you sound clever and witty.
No, you dumb motherfucker, anywhere you fish in Automata the process is exactly the same because in Automata the entire fishing system is nothing but waiting for the lure to bob and then pressing the button to reel it in. Fishing in different areas does nothing but result in a different item pool. Fishing in Nier in different locations had different fish who were actually of different levels of reeling in because Nier had an actual fishing system beyond Automata's braindead garbage.
This is what Automata fans are like, I suppose.
Alright I'll throw it on the pile, I'm playing Xenogears right now though.
>Fishing in Nier let you catch different kinds of fish
>But all it did in Automata was catch different kinds of fish
>The entire fishing system was thrown out because one (shitty) aspect was different!
You haven't played through Automata and just want to complain. Like every Nier "fan" who cries about Automata, you're an idiot.
Not it made me sound clear so that you may easily understand that your posts aren't worth spitting on much less replying to.
Her's another to let you know that your assumption that someone's being witty by putting a word in quotation marks is fucking hilarious.
You have absolutely no business calling anyone a moron, holy shit.
>As opposed to literally being dead and having no chance to come back?
More so because staking people’s lives on a deadly game as well as having to deal with dead friends and shit, as well as being constantly hunted down by Noise and the like, is kind of a shitty deal.
>Literally never happened, you dumb faggot.
Whatever helps you sleep at night when it comes to you somehow not getting TWEWY’s premise, dude.
>Yes, you are "the" idiot.
>no u
>Right back at you. The game is shit, and all you've done is say "Well I happen to like shit because it's a different kind of shit and I'm a faggot so I think it looks cool!”
>source: my subjective ass
Goddamn, you are a sad motherfucker.
>How fucking stupid do you have to be to think that disliking something means you don't understand it? Saying something was the point of a game doesn't excuse those aspects from being shit.
Claiming that a game is shit because of nitpicky arguments and reductive reasoning is a sign of stupidity, yes. As well as claiming that those aren’t just subjective arguments and are actually objective faults.
>Anyways, you type like a dumb ESLnigger so nothing you say matters.
How ironic.
What should I play on my psp this summer?
I'm hesitating between Suikoden II, FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre, FF6, Valkyrie Profile or maybe Persona. Any other recommendations?
>Not it made me sound clear
>You have absolutely no business calling anyone a moron
Thanks for the chuckle, you dumb fuck.
I will if you tell me where i can get some legit dragon quest apk.
>muh OG nier was better because it had the superior fishing system
What the fuck am I reading?
as much as i love xenogears and agree with every post related to it, i still have to go with this
>Is there a reason you can't just grind a little before you enter?
SaGa Frontier 2 works on a scenario based format.
You select an "episode" of sort from your world map and play through it with a fixed cast of characters available for each episode.
Once you're done with said episode, you can't replay it, you can't go back to it either which means a lot of areas are a one time only deal, so you NEED to take your time, explore and make the best of it, if you rush through them chances are you'll miss on a lot of things, including loot, and loot is a key factor in SF2, not to mention a lot of it is very well hidden.
The final dungeon is notorious for being a huge difficulty spike and due to the aforementioned system, you have a finite number of quest to develop your characters and get good gear, which means not taking your time and making sure your characters are up to the challenge means the game can be effectively unbeatable, especially since you can't resupply or rest during scenarios AND once you enter the final dungeon you can't exit.
Also, SaGa games are particularly famous for their tough final bosses, in SaGa, the final boss is the real deal, it isn't like Final Fantasy or other games that have a final boss to put an end to the story and then give you an array of post game superbosses to have a challenge, in SaGa games the final boss is the FINAL BOSS of the gym, and will test whether you paid attention, understood how to play and deserve to finish the game.
Moreover, Frontier 2's final boss is one of those bosses that have optional harder versions you can trigger, meaning that if you choose to skip the minibosses in the last dungeon, the last boss will get stronger and get new abilities AND forms depending on how many of those minibosses you pussied out of fighting, making it even tougher.
>Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?
I'll start in a few days with the fourjobfiesta
>staking people’s lives
They're already fucking dead, you stupid piece of cocksucking shit.
>is kind of a shitty deal.
>you can either die forever
>or fight to come back
Just kill yourself.
>to you somehow not getting TWEWY’s premise
But you're the fucking retard who doesn't even understand the rules of the game based on your post. Which part of the premise have I misinterpreted? Be very specific and cite exactly where I say something that runs contradictory with the game.
SaGa Frontier 2 has a world map, but not like a traditional JRPG. You have flag posts around the world that pop up with various dates. You can select them and do that chapter and when you are done more chapters will pop up. Then you select the next one. Each chapter is contained in a certain area. Now you can see how this is a problem because you cant just simply back out of the final chapter since you exhausted a lot of the previous ones to get to that point. You cannot revisit chapters you've done.
>because of nitpicky arguments
>the plot is dumb and the game is too straightfoward and has no exploration and gimmicky combat
>nitpicky
Do you know what any of the words you're using mean?
>How ironic.
Apparently not. Stupid fucking ESLfag.
Gameplay isn't only about combat, it's also about game design. The people who made Nier never played a video game in their life.
Have you ever seen Cyber City Oedo?
Frontier is pretty much that, except a lot crazier.
>it's also about game design
Don't bring up differences in level design and traversal between the two games. His head will actually explode.
Oh you're chuckling huh? I'm fucking slain forever now. Everyone's convinced you're not an idiot now for sure. Congrats.
And now I remember why /jrpgg/ deserved to die.
>Triangle is jump
>Menu is square
Man, remember back when basic controls weren't standardized yet?
i stopped my breath of fire 2 playthrough so i could play through pokemon platinum again and reminisce on when pokemon wasnt shit
once gen 6 happened it just started losing its identity year after year
what are must play DS games bros? so far ive downloaded TWEWY, ghost trick, and SMT strange journey
No please, let it rest in peace.
I don't want an episodic, censored, ultra edgy, cuh-ra-zee action combat remake in 2074 at $99.99 + DLC
A REMASTER, on the other hand...
>Everyone's convinced you're not an idiot now for sure.
Now I'm in full blown laughter over how pathetic you are.
have you played Suikoden 2 yet? If not go for that. Breath of Fire 3 or 4 might be okay.
The SaGa remakes and Metal Max 3/2:R are must plays.
Best place to grab apks for final fantasy and dq?
I'll never forget the suffering of my first run, I actually completed it 3 years later but it was hell on earth (compared to other fiestas I won)
Speaking of Xenogears, you guys DO listen to the Bulgarian Women's Choir, right? They performed and recorded the two best tracks in the game.
I just beat mother 3 a couple days ago and I'm a little tired of jrpgs at the moment. I'll probably try another one later.
7th Dragon
Etrian Odyssey 3, 1 and 2 as well if you're a hardass
No, I've only played the first Suikoden. It was reall great but kinda disappointing. The whole point of the game is to recruit a ton of characters and make your own party but the vast majority of the time you're stuck with story characters and have no choice in terms of composition. Is II any different?
what is SaGa? or what do i type in the search bar i mean so i can find the rom
They also performed some of the most notable Ghost in the Shell soundtrack songs
I bet you'll just keep replying to inform me of how much your laughter is escalating all the way to bump limit.
That is the funniest thing ITT and possibly on the board right now.
Go ahead by all means.
Oh, hey lucca
Probably SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny or what ever the remake was.
>what is SaGa?
We've been talking about it in this very thread, but here you go:
SaGa 2 Hihō Densetsu: Goddess of Destiny
SaGa 3 Jikū no Hasha: Shadow or Light
Oh it literally is lucca. So Xenogears is in the same universe as Chrono Trigger apparently.
I already played chrono trigger and it is the peak of the genre. I don't need to play any more jrpgs
Nice bait
>They're already fucking dead, you stupid piece of cocksucking shit.
>he hasn’t even read the Secret Reports
>he doesn’t even know what lives mean in this regard
>he doesn’t even get why the basic premise of do stuff or you’ll die, especially when Reapers will send Noise after Players to make Erasing them even easier, is kind of a shitty deal. Especially when they can take away what you value most to make things even harder on you.
Again, imagine being so fucking retarded that you don’t even understand this about TWEWY’s premise.
>But you're the fucking retard who doesn't even understand the rules of the game based on your post. Which part of the premise have I misinterpreted?
That being forced to kill shit against your will or die isn’t exactly a good thing.
>Do you know what any of the words you're using mean?
Do you? Because what you just said is the epitome of nitpicky shit.
>Apparently not. Stupid fucking ESLfag.
Again, how ironic.
Radiant Historia, Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Heaven, Ace Attorney, Hotel Dusk, Bowser’s Inside Story, etc. The DS has a ton of great gems.
>The entire system is completely different aside from the fact that you catch fish in both games
>This means it's exactly the same
You did well getting me to waste this much time user.
Chrono nigger is such overrated shit. Its a cadualized ff4 which is already easy as shit, and the relies in le ebin time travel to be memorable.
>he hasn’t even read the Secret Reports
I've read them all. Usually TWEWYfags try to ignore them because of how retarded they are with Nomura's autism. I'm impressed that you're stupid enough to bring them up in defense of the game.
>do stuff or you’ll die
>or you'll die
>That being forced to kill shit against your will or die
>or die
You're too damn stupid.
>this rpg is too straightforward and has no exploration
>nitpicky
What the fuck is wrong with you?
>Again, how ironic.
Right, you're an ESLfag. You have brain damage by default.
>They performed and recorded the two best tracks in the game.
if that was the case they would have performed Dark Daybreak and Grahf Emperor of Darkness.
>aside from the fact that you catch fish in both games
Everytime Gestaltfags open their mouths to cry about Automata, their collective level of retardation hits new heights.
dang there's a page that records your runs?
I've been a fool, I've made new twitter accounts for my runs
At the beginning it happens but once you have your main base unlocked when it does happen you only lose 1 or 2 slots out of 5. So yes, it does happen often but the impact isn't huge. The last 1\3 of the game is entirely your party though, not including the main character of course.
Oh, wtf. I don't remember that. Cool, let me know if you run into Gato.
when you click "sign in with twitter" on the left
you can also click on the symbols to see the proof of victory over neo exdeath, shinryuu etc.
>What the fuck is wrong with you?
By definition, that is nitpicky, dumbass.
>Right, you're an ESLfag. You have brain damage by default.
>if I can keep repeating it, maybe that can cover up how I have no arguments at all!
I will when Octopath traveler finally gets cracked.
>I've read them all. Usually TWEWYfags try to ignore them because of how retarded they are with Nomura's autism.
And your source is? Because from what I’ve seen on TWEWY threads, people usually collect them because they genuinely want to learn more about the story and all of the little details and what not.
>You're too damn stupid
>he says while failing to understand why people normally wouldn’t want to face soul-destroying monsters
Christ.
>By definition, that is nitpicky, dumbass.
No it's not, you fucking idiot. Those are two huge parts of rpgs. Complaining about them isn't a nitpick. Open a dictionary, you stupid ESL piece of shit.
You can get the 2.0 patch that changes the controls back to the JP originals and replaces the awful english dub with the original voices.
Your save from the original will still work as well.
>one who bears his fangs at god
Is this track not using synths for the voices? It really sounds like it.
Play Seiken Densetsu 3 instead, its a similar concept but better game in my opinion.
>And your source is?
You retards all pretending that it's a concise and well wrapped up story not full of Nomura's bullshit. People literally say that the main game is great and to ignore the reports and the extra chapters.
>why people normally
Being dead isn't "normally" by any stretch of the word. People want to survive. People want their sister who died with them because of their own stupidity to survive. If you were given a chance to come back to life after you died on your own, then you would take. "But they don't want to fight monsters" does not apply when they already fucking died and it's their only way back.
>nitpick
>definition: engage in fussy or pedantic fault-finding.
Also, complaining about how a game’s entire premise is based around being trapped in Shibuya and forced to fight monsters is nitpicky, yes.
>engage in fussy or pedantic fault-finding.
Yes, and complaining about core elements of the genre does not fall under that definition, you stupid subhuman illiterate monkey. You pretending that those things don't matter don't magically make them not a huge part of rpgs.
Fiddling with the emulator a bit. How do people feel about widescreen hacks? Haven't done much PS1 emulation in a while.
>complaining about how a game’s entire premise is based around being trapped in Shibuya and forced to fight monsters is nitpicky
I've been reading the entire conversation, and he never complained about the premise. He complained about their reaction to the premise. Don't try to put words in his mouth because you want to backpedal after calling exploration in an rpg a nitpick.
>Play Seiken Densetsu 3 instead, its a similar concept
apples and oranges. For starters, SD3 has an entirely different combat system, is deceptively linear and doesn't have the field actions of OT.
>People literally say that the main game is great and to ignore the reports and the extra chapters.
Bullshit. I’ve seen people recommending new players to collect those if they want to know more about the story as well as to try out Another Day for how off the wall it is.
>But they don't want to fight monsters" does not apply when they already fucking died and it's their only way back.
Except it does when they don’t want to fight and get ripped to pieces by monsters, dipshit.
how?
I tried blowing inside the stick, but I'm to dumb to do anything harder than that
no synth, that's the bulgarian women's choir, they're fucking awesome.
>Bullshit
No, try reading threads.
>as well as to try out Another Day for how off the wall it is.
And to ignore new day because it upsets them.
>Except it does when they don’t want to fight and get ripped to pieces by monsters, dipshit.
It does not fucking apply when they lost their lives and it's their only chance to come back. They all want to come back to life. If they didn't. They'd just sit the game out and wait to disappear. You're so fucking stupid. Being dead is not "normal" like you tried waving it off as. They aren't kids that were picked for a death game, they were kids who died on their (save Neku) and were given a chance to come back.
