uhhhh . . . I KINDA meant games that are easy to pick up and put down but thanks for the JRPGS recs!

It's fine. Gets a little repetitive after a while.

Doesn't get more niche than the only Net Yaroze game that made it to retail.

Attached: 1488581-devildice_0006_layer_41.jpg (640x480, 285K)

Best in the expansive Crisis series.

Attached: 210571.jpg (450x395, 38K)

I never see anyone mention Popolocrois.

one of my favorite soundtracks in video games, simple game that's pretty fun to play(especially with a friend), soulful style and characters, literally only remembered by Mexicans(somehow)

Attached: 61UX8N9BVUL.jpg (500x499, 68K)

Kingsley's Adventure. Basically the Dark Souls of mascot platformers.

Attached: kin2.jpg (640x480, 49K)

Original Oreshika Ore no Shikabane o Koete Yuke is also pretty cool. You might not understand much of the story but if you have played the vita version it should work. There is also a psp version but sadly no fan patch for either version.

Attached: popo.gif (637x479, 283K)

The scoring system in this game makes absolutely no sense.

Fuck, you were fast.

Land of the Babes was a pretty good one too, finding the bonus tokens was fucking tough tho

threads of fate
umihara kawase
nightmare creatures
koudelka

I liked Syphon Filter.

Play this. It sucks.

Attached: 52518-Wild_9_(E)-1.jpg (640x648, 58K)

after a detective user found it for me a while back, I found the oddly named SWAGMAN to be fairly entertaining.

Bloody Roar
Tenchu 1 and 2
Colony Wars series

Devil Dice was fun, I never did finish the puzzle mode
Bombastic on PS2 was also good but its "Story" mode was a bit pants

Pepsiman
Bugs and Taz - Timebusters
Sheep Raider

Tenchu is honestly the most overrated action game on the playstation. It's style and ambition are impressive but the stealth, action and platforming are pure jank.

Alundra is the best Zelda game I've played that isn't Zelda
I'm still mad at how bad the 2nd game was

Attached: de.png (353x353, 275K)

releasing around the same time as MGS didn't do this game any favours
the sequel is good too

Attached: syphon-filter-usa-v1-1.jpg (600x597, 213K)

yeah i am like halfway through this, installed on my ps classic, i downloaded the second one too but it looks like they went with 3d graphics. I don't like too many 3d ps1 games desu. Crash games are decent and soul reaver

Alundra 2 is in no way related to the first game
Its got WACKY Pirates, a mini quest to look at different types of toilets and the word GI said too many times

This one used to come up often in 2002 era internet as a game similar to ff tactics and tactics ogre march of the black queen. Never got either running at the time and downloads took ages on dial up

Is weird seeing games that were important on release but simply forgotten with time become hidden gems for zoomers.

i mean, syphon filter got the recognition it deserved. it was always on TV ads, and i think it reached "greatest hits"

Fuck me. I had heard Alundra was awesome, so I rented Alundra 2 from blockbuster as my introduction to the series. I beat it, but I distinctly remember having a pretty negative or 'just ok' kind of impression. I really cant remember much besides pushing some boxes around

Attached: youtube_caramelldansen.jpg (973x765, 164K)

fuck I just remembered the MC wasn't even called Alundra FUCKING WHY

I liked it. It had some hype behind it though. I even gkt a vhs promo video in the mail for it

Carnage Heart
Mech Programming game

Reminder to get Grand Edition which has a full fan translation. Proper Esgares story mode and Lizard Kangz among other things.

I'm sorry for your lots bro
Here, have the OP for Alundra youtube.com/watch?v=Fje57_DM8x0

I always confused this and bubble bobble because of 'must a move'
I played something on ps2 that looked a lot like this. Funkadelic characters. Did it ever get a port or a similar game on demo discs or something?

I think I've played this in a demo disc, a platformer with a telekinesis gun of some sort if I recall?

>even gkt a vhs promo video in the mail for it
those were the fuckin' days man. youtube can't compare. those tapes were ours.

>colony wars
Every year id look for vidya to buy some friends of mine for their birthdays (they're twins) and one year was Colony wars, while another was descent maximum. They both ended up being pretty interesting

Deception 2.

The boss battles aren't great, but there's nothing wrong with the stealth or platforming. Even the boss battles aren't really bad, just a bit simplistic.

Red Sun was the best imo, I hope those new space fighter game are just like that.

Deception Collection for the PC or a new Deception game when? How are there no clones of this game?

Stealth is annoying because the meter is unreliable and the draw distance is crap. You can also just charge past enemies in most levels so there is no point in hiding at all. The hook mechanic is also all over the place, half the time your character will miss grabbing the legde you want to swing to. It feels like the developers had good ideas but no clue how to make them work.

This actually sold very well for what it is.

Hogs of War

Not him, but I part of the fun was killing as many people I could find, but I do agree with the last two points.

Since its here twice...
Jade Cocoon is an RPG where in you catch monsters in Cocoons
You take them back to town and your wife destroys her body to let you control and merge them
The game has some minor cool things, the base monsters will actually grow as they level up, they have distinct child and adult forms
Merging monsters generally results in a base form of monster with the other monsters skin
It used a 4 element system in combat and you could merge your monsters to either be pure of one element or a mix of up to all 4

After you beat the game you unlocked an infinite dungeon which supposedly had every type of monster possible in the game [Each base form of monster with each individual element]
There's legends of a mad lad with a backup generator who managed to clear 999 floors, he said it just loops back to 990, thus supposedly killing rumours of accessing the DARK INFINITE DUNGEON

tl;dr Jade Cocoon is alright if a bit slow on the combat
Jade Cocoon 2 is infinitely worse and also hilarious

Pretty good car combat game, ala Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8.

By the way, why hasn't car combat been revived with a BR game yet?

Attached: 37137_eur-Rogue-Trip-Vacation-2012.jpg (1396x1393, 286K)

Unironically Jackie Chan: stuntmaster is good fun to pick up and play and no one ever talks about it

Not OP, but I'll give it a second try, I had it on my ps1 but it used to freeze

And Elemental Gearbolt & that Cowboy Bebop game are claimed by me.

I play this once a year or so. It and pic related are my top two favorite games of all time.

Attached: 610gJQhtj5L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg (260x260, 27K)

I mean the game lets you have a harem, pretty ballsy move. I guess being desert people makes it ok.

Everybody's golf 2 (not kidding its a good game, had sir Daniel and gex as unlockable golfers if I can remember correctly, was pretty based)
The die hard trilogy game
Theme amusement park
Siphon filter
Track & field
Suikoden 2 (RPG, most Konami games that aren't sotn or Metal Gear solid from ps1 era are underrated compared to those games, although I'll accept that Konami isn't what you were asking for in the op)
Tomba is cool but you would have heard of it because of the meme
Crash team racing (no longer a hidden gem)
Gex 3 (2 is fun but aged like milk compared to 3)

These things are hackable right? For $30 not bad I can play SNES shit without having to pay $100 to play on my TV

Just download it off emuparadise buddy
>inb4 is off
Its not, there is a workaround script

oops im blind thought this was a ps classic thread. I know it sounds autistic but I wanna play these ps1 game on my big tv with the hdmi thing it comes with. I know pc play would cost me nothing!!

It's a hidden gems thread. Obscure games are obscure.

Quite different from nuPersona
They have aged, but are still very enjoyable.

The psp remakes are just as good. The us ps1 version doesn't let you do the snow queen questline.

Play the japonese version, which has no censures and the voices are better/fitting

Attached: image.jpg (298x300, 41K)

My first ever jRPG, not enough people love that game

Yeah, not exactly -hidden- if you google "best rpgs of all time" but name 3 people you know in real life who played it when it came out

What's the 2d sprite strategy game where your army is composed of "dolls" or something?

The art style was similar to SMT

Eternal Eyes bruv

Kartia? Rhapsody?

There are some really strange adventure games for the playstation. Pic related actually has good puzzles for an adventure game developed in japan.

Hugo: Quest for the Sunstones

Kartia my dude!

I remember asking my dad to either get me Hugo or Medievil back in the day. Thankfully he couldn't find the Hugo game.

Game is like OCD hell, you raze every inch of destructible object because it might be hiding words of power and shit. But it has 2 story campaigns and a multiplayer arena if I recall correctly.

Guys I've got Star ocean 2 on my back burner then mean to play it cuz I really like the Sprite art style.

do you think it's worth it? I bought a PS2 slim just to play the damn thing ( along with Ace combat)

Played this before MGS, knew about it though and still didn't see the difference when I finally played MGS.
MSG is based around stealth as a core concept and SF has like two stealth missions

Is syphon filter more about just blasting your way through?

Man, that song is so fucking good.

>Cheesing the octopus boss at lvl1
Nothing personnel, squid

A short isometric-ish third-person shooter that's a lot of fun and I think that still holds up.

Come back

The correct answer is Vanguard Bandits

> Vandal hearts 1 and 2
> Suikoden series
> Metal gear solid
> Castlevania

Fuck I miss 90s Konami

>RPG with awkwardly dubbed anime girl dating segments where your powers get better the closer you get to the girl
Yes, this was stupid. Still a guilty pleasure though.

Saiyuki Journey West and Mizzurna Falls.

Is the combat any good

Danzaiver, Gally and Lie: Fitting.
Alty, Erel, Midori, Child Tone Kakurine: Guess they are Ok.
Alty Master/Narrator: You can't beat Norio Wakamoto.
True Kakurine, Satsune, Keiya and Ihadurca: They don't fit.

Here's what you want. Ghoul Panic is the tits.

also the art style looks extremely similar to guardian heroes on the Saturn. Was it the same character designer

>Octopus boss
>Getting bumfucked by enemies when the trapdoors shut
>raging at Django
>scrambling to beat that final boss while the credits roll
God, what memories. I had no fucking clue what was going on, still don't, but damn it was fun. Never did beat the RPG mode though.

Lie: LET'S TAKE CARE OF THE WORLD

Can confirm. Game's great.

It's basically a TPS, outside of one mission where stealth is mandatory and another where the level plays out differently depending on whether you get spotted or not (If I'm not forgetting another stealth section)
Outside of that it's run and gun. Also you can do this: youtube.com/watch?v=gPvsUKZ1Cnc

Thank you!
One of the top 10 JRPG I played

OST in VH2 is so good it's just not fair so little people heard it
youtube.com/watch?v=Gbq6ikslBkI

Was a fan of the first one but I could never get into the second. The whole 'an enemy moves at the same time one of your characters moves' system just became more frustrating than it was worth to me.

Great taste

Beneath the weaker atmosphere and the pg-13 story which has nothing to do with the original lore, much of the first game's elements remain intact.

Combat is okay. Not a patch on anything like Legend of Legaia, Xenogears or Star Ocean 2 but it was functional enough.

Couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but the style was similar to a lot of anime/games at the time.

I wasn't a big fan of gameplay too (nearly dropped it during a mission with female boss), but the OST and story made up for it.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=nMBckRnq2Ys

Is the rest of the game as good as this track?youtube.com/watch?v=XUI1lf6gNfE

I prefer this version over Dreamcast one. Loved these minigames

You think GiTS was a hidden gem? Then i might as well say stuff like Tomba, bishi bashi special or MDK, you probably didn't know about those either.

Not obscure, try again you dumb zoomer.

Gladius

Saturn
Not obscure
Good game tho

Silent Bomber,
Akuji the Heartless,
Apocalypse

Apocalypse
Nuclear Strike
Bishi Bashi Special
Die Hard trilogy
1? yes
2 and 3? there are a lot more stealth sections than 1 so it's kinda a stealth-tps shooter hybrid

Thanks for stealing my comment you fucking butt pounder. I bet you like licking the inside of dirty hooker lower intestines as your favorite video game. You probably feed dimes into their vaginas thinking thats their slot machine for plays but you're too cheap to put quarters in there so you use dimes. Fucker nught faggker cock sucker. Thats as you use int putt you use insider suckin their vaggker. Fuck suckere lick sucker nught quarty chealiker. Fuckinks ing macher nught probably hoo you use video put your nught quartere vaggke fagin.

Muh frens
Both Apocalypse and Silent Bomber have still potential in regards to gameplay in my opinion.
Akuji is dated but it was an experience playing it as a kid.

>bishi bashi special
GOD BLESS YOU MAN

It's a pretty weird game, so I wouldn't know what to say. It was fun playing against a friend, but then again, what game isn't. I didn't play it all that much by myself.

It has. Check out Not My Car on steam

Pepsiman.

My african american cotton picker.

Panzer Front

Crazy immersive for a 5th gen game.

Attached: PSOGL2_031.png (1400x1050, 284K)

Akuji has some technical problems like fps drops but if you don't mind those, I think there's still an interesting game there.

>the dark infinite dungeon
Well thats a legend I missed. Wish blockbuster had this game back when I was renting sounds really awesome

Would be a good exploration piece of whats wrong with modern culture by comparing the two

I played it too but I didn't like it. Never was a big fan of space combat games.

Is that Gimli?

The gameboy version apparently has a bunch of extra content. Surprising how short the main dungeon is so I was curious if i missed something or got a bad end. But i guess some stuff was lost on gameboy too, or at least I think

It was such an obvious legend, an actual meme in that most everyone who played into the new game thought it at some point
The Infinite dungeon room has TWO doors, obviously there's a way to access the Dark door
Its also the place where you can catch boss monsters, just like on the back of the CD case

Fuck the english dub shit. Cant find the jap eboot for my psp.

FUCK the English Censorship too
Dubbin out the word nigga in my man Hams song
Replacing Beer with coke

Its amazing they didn't butcher this song
youtube.com/watch?v=u1KT_Hf381w

Highly recommended. Original gameplay where you can give commands to npc controlled tanks in your squad and a great, intuitive control scheme (you control your tanks tracks individually).

bumping for video games

Another fine, spooky, adventure game. From Softwares take on the Myst formula.

Attached: ps1_echo_night-120314.jpg (640x634, 50K)

Tonnes of people played it, the first one was amazing, there's like 4 paths through the story plus a bunch of dead ends/game overs, the 2nd game was hugely stripped down and the 3rd was graphically better but overall was quite poor. Now Darklight Conflict, THERE was an obscure space shooter

Attached: darklight_jpg_300x300_q85.jpg (293x300, 26K)

Not him, but I liked red sun

What's the best way to play PS1 games these days? With that PSIO contraption?

Vita TV can be CFW'd to play eboots I think

Attached: 52294-Hogs_of_War_(E)-1.jpg (663x650, 76K)

Vita TVs are expensive as hell now.

And I want something that's non emulation, I can just use my PC for that and do it better.

I have a hacked vita and it's great

Spamming the mortar and rocket boost combos was so fun. Also flying saucer shenanigans.

Attached: 1559102825439.jpg (1464x1476, 340K)

This shit was the best. Lost my copy in a move, it's so expensive now.

Nigga what? Syphon filter was huge, in part because of the success of mgs.

Azure Dreams

You can download the games for free and install them on a ps classic.

Japanese version is an incredibly specific mix of a product of its time and completely ahead of it in every way.

Attached: 5117428ZSJL._SX342_.jpg (342x337, 20K)

Modded ps1, spindle of cdrs, and backup laser assembly is still the best option in my opinion, but I've never tried the psio so I am talking out of my ass a bit. The psio is pretty cheap, but I've just been assuming something a little more elegant would come along soon. Fuck, maybe I'll just get a psio

My fav game along with FF9

Attached: 255px-DESTREGA.jpg (255x247, 25K)

Fun with another player but otherwise eh

It's not even a hack and slash rpg it's a fucking side scrolling best em up.

it plays like "Tetris: The Grand Master"

Raystorm. I still think it's one of the best shoot em ups ever.

Ore no Ryouri, cooking game where each dish has its own minigame

Attached: 2220288-ore_no_ryori__my_cooking__cover.jpg (960x960, 241K)

I know your probably just shitposting, but other than Syphon Filter (and arguably Duke Nukem but for other games), probably most of them aren't well known and would count as hidden gems for most people.

how are they hidden gems if they show up in every 'hidden gems' thread?

this is the best game of all time and will never be topped, the fact that nobody ever tried to give this recipe a go ever again after it is proof that they're all scared shitless of fucking it up

not really a hidden gem in nowadays Yea Forums, but it was still basically impossible to find in stores back then
(I never ever seen a copy IRL and only got to play it because my friend's dad knew how to burn psx games)

Colony Wars has been a mainstay on my PSP since the PSP came out

Good point, but in the context of mainstream popularity these games would be virtually unknown to any normie which was what I was getting at. Probably if I went into many hidden gems threads on /vr/ I'd get sick of these games but otherwise they're pretty unknown to anyone else

Ever notice that those who make these posts, while always missing the point of these threads, never seem to post a game themselves?

Attached: akuji.jpg (383x384, 38K)

>>the only Popolocrois game we ever get was a Story of Seasons spin-off
I read the story a long time ago but I am sure the ps titles are all about the mainplot. There are like 5 games not counting the 3ds spin off.

Armored Core: Master of Arena

Tobal no.1

Good shit

Let me tell you about hidden gems.

It's not a hidden gem if:
>it's a game that had sequels
>it's a sequel to a game
>it's based on a famous IP
>it was re-released at some point
>it was available on more than one system
>it was published by a major publisher (like square and eidos games which have all been discussed to death)

Yes some games are (rightfully) just footnotes in gaming history now, like Syphon Filter and Medal of Honor, but that does not mean they are hidden gems.
