I kinda liked N'nT even though I agree it was impossible for it to live up to the original. This looks just... Weird. And complicated in a bad way.
Early Oddworld games were amazing with just the bare minimum of mechanics they had. This looks just like a clusterfuck of all possible vidya cliches for the past 10 years.
>Timed possessions like in munch's oddyssee >Letting abe craft and build weapons which defeats the point of the cinematic platformer roots >Completely redesigning the glukkons >Making an extremely serious tone without any of the quips or darker humor
This entire revival of oddworld feels like the series was a "mistake" to the devs.
In the footage abe kills a slig and gets NEGATIVE QUARMA for it? The fuck? Killing the sligs ruins your quarma now?
Oliver Allen
>It's gonna be huge!!! large open world 3d version of abe's exoddus. >haha... jk.... it's just a 2d remake like new n tasty
Isaiah Myers
On the bright side, after this releases they'll finally start working on a new game. Right?
Sebastian King
So it’s literally just new n tasty 2.0? What the fuck happened
Logan Edwards
I'm saying this as a massive oddworld fan whom even backed new n tasty simply because it was oddworld..... this looks like TRASH. I don't understand what happened.. Why were all the games so fucking good up till after stranger's wrath?? I can never see myself playing this over just playing the og abe's exoddus.
Carson Bennett
This. Am I trippin or wasn't it promised to be 3d like Munch's Oddysee?
Eli Davis
>50 lockers to loot on each screen
Yeah, that won't get boring at all.
Samuel Kelly
>These devs are sitting on an IP thats insanely compelling >Make incoherent worse versions of classic entries
Based blink 182 poster. I mean if I was him, i would've made a larger scale munch's oddysee style 3d platformer but with abe's exoddus style. Like the factories, mines, etc.
Charles Moore
Looks fucking terrible.
Jason Campbell
I think the worst thing to happen to this series after New N Tasty outside of mechanical changes is the tone and visuals. Everything i see from soulstorm is uber serious and the factory design blinds you with lights and noise
Leo Davis
I thought it looked good. Why is it getting so much hate?
Isaac Collins
Oddworld was the first game I ever played. I wasnt even in 1st grade yet. 25 now.
I could only watch a few seconds of that gameplay before I turned it off. I can kinda dig the layout of the map...but the crafting and looting is just aids...jesus christ
Luis Cox
Abes Oddysee was a pretty fucking serious game for the most part my dude with majority of the comedy coming from abe bumbling about every now and then. The enslavement of the races and exploitation of the natural world was presented 100% serious
Ayden Sanchez
do these guys or Lanning even understand what made the first games good anymore? what the fuck is that mess of noises lights and traced bouncy things?
Evan White
It's okay but New & Tasty looked a lot better.
Luke Brown
I only played Abe's Oddysee and beat Strangers Wrath. Are the other games any good?
It is a very serious game but Soulstorm is not showing me much of the humor or cheeky moments from Exoddus yet. Especially with the new glukkons it just looks too different
Christopher Wilson
Never promised to be 3D anywhere at anypoint Never implied anywhere at any point in time
Mudokons are pacifists culturally and while they have been enslaved they merely want to be free and return to their roots and live off the land because they are hippies when you boil it down You can beat the entire game with 0 kills Lanning has confirmed from a talk several years ago
After NnT came out OWI released a poll on their website for their next project and Exoddus remake won by a huge margin. Many options were included: Sligstorm, Hand of Odd, Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klott, assorted sequels, and many original ideas They will most likely do this again after Soulstorm but who knows
OLD GOOD NEW BAD Honestly though it is a massive change from the classic games, of course its going to stir people up, but you know what? The original games will always be there so even if the game comes out and its mediocre, I know I still have OG Exoddus Poor Lanning worked himself so hard during NnT that he had facial paralysis(temporarily) from the stress and lack of sleep among other things. He's had a long minute to think about where the series is headed and I'll let him do his thing how he wants. It is his baby after all I'm holding out until the game enters its final build to pass judgement
i thought after how bad new and tasty was compared to the original, they would learn.
Michael Flores
Is this actually a real question??
Alexander Mitchell
I met the lead dev before he started work on new n tasty. Was suprised to see on his social media when he revealed the game he moved to Leeds to work on was an Oddysee remake.
Parker Foster
Exoddus is amazing. Basically Oddysee but with some improvements here and there.
Although, nothing tops Oddysee for me. That game was simply perfect, there's nothing you can add or take away from it to make it better.
Cameron Anderson
Hopefully this time we get to return to the remains of Rupture Farms as a bonus level like they intended to do in the first game
The moody pre-rendered backgrounds and slow methodical gameplay that the grid based movement provided is what makes Oddworld great. Sadly, these gameplay elements go against the what the modern industry claims is good design so now we get stuck with this modern garbage.
Noah Smith
God i miss pre-rendered art like this and i hate the 3D shit in the new games
Just lets artists add any details they want to make it look more rich but visually clear at the same time
what a fucking shitshow, it was too much to ask to get a new game instead of ruining another good old one
Cameron Turner
god that background really hits you in the gut when you're playing and makes you sick despite being so understated and minimal. How many millions of mudokon skeletons did the glukkons defile to make that much bone powder?
Hunter Foster
If theyre gonna punish you for possessing (a main gimmick of the franchise) and killing creatures it would make more sense if it punished you for exploding scrabs or paramites since Abe never does that in the old games.
Kayden Williams
oh my fucking god Is this The Outer Worlds platformer version?
>Franchise with messages about corporations and slavery >End up being sponsored by fucking Sobe drinks in Munch >Plaster indie advertisements in New N Tasty
You know im surprised Soulstorm has no mountain dew partnership
Im just not getting how using your wits to pit sligs against each other or blow them up yourselves would give you negative quarma in a franchise where the entire point is saving your people at any cost. I get lorne wants quarma to be more than just "you saved half the mudokens so heres a good ending" but hes being absurd now.
Kayden Nelson
imagine nintendo makes a new mario game but you have to craft with bottles and shit and instead of jumping on enemies you cause explosions to kill them
how are you not pissed
Gabriel Myers
>Plaster indie advertisements in New N Tasty
That because NewmTasty was made by indie devs. Those games were their own.
Aiden Roberts
They got a good chunk of money from NnT, far more than enough to do a 1:1 remake of AE like they did with Oddysee. My hope is that the game has a ton of replayabilty
It looks over-the-top in Comet Depot for sure due to how busy the place is and how much security it is bound to have, but there are still the lower-traffic areas that I'm sure will have far more platforming and puzzle focus than all this action and junk-tossing. I'm sure Necrum Mines(pic related) will be more stealth oriented as opposed to the depot. If the game is ALL like what we were shown then yeah i think it might be fucked
>End up being sponsored by fucking Sobe drinks in Munch I don't think were too happy about that one, infrogames kinda forced it on them.
Juan Sanchez
Lorne gave an interview where he was all "SoBe loved the message and theme of our games and we were really excited to have them in there". Yeah, I'm sure the big corporate drinks company loved your anti-corporate, anti-consumerism message.
Brandon Davis
he also gave an interview where one of the publishers they worked under "lost" their paychecks until they changed something in the game.
Eli Smith
all they had to do was clone their last good game without any crafting and shit
all of the remasters just look like shit that subtle sense of dark humour the originals had has been thrown out of the window in favour of cartoony childish arcadey slapstick its like they robbed it of the more serious and important aspects that made the game more focused and immersive, and just kept the gay
Jack Taylor
I think its too early to fully judge it. I played a lot of Oddworld games when I was little and I think Soulstorm looks OKAY so far. I do fucking hate the crafting though, part of the fun was findinv spots to manipulate enemies instead of building weapons. You were helpless and had to run away until you found a hiding spot, was some great tension. I dont like the new backgrounds so far either, used to look so fucking pretty. I do dislike the new Glukkons though, Ill miss the fun personalities of Phleg, Aslik and Dripik Hopefully some of the charming humour will stick around, loved the Slig cutscenes in Exoddus
