They don't have the resources. Not in terms of money, they obviously have a fuck ton of that, but the manpower or the talent to do it. For whatever reason Game Freak refuses to hire anybody. For a studio working on the mainline games of the most profitable media franchise of all time they only employ 143 people.

The leadership is just incompetent, and unfortunately until somebody else takes charge of GameFreak things will stay the same.

Most people were upset a ton of mons are basically just Kantomons but with a new design. You even have rock and fighting lines that require trade, Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan, a new bat related Pokemon, a tadpole turning into a frog like mon, a mole, etc. Too many mons borrow ideas off of old Kantomons, which makes them that much more boring.

Yellow was my first game. I remember being really excited when I finally played Red/Blue because I hated Pikachu and didn't want him as my starter.

Frankly, even though these are random environments that aren't designed for shit and probably just from the asset store, the idea of an actual open world Pokemon game where you actually see Pokemon to scale still has so much potential that even these trash mockups are still fun to look at.

What's wrong with wide open space if you can fly, ride a bike, or a ride Pokemon around?
Something all the games fail at is a sense of space.
All of the games so far have been too tightly packed in.
You never really get to explore and create a story for yourself in those games.
You're always being pulled along by some sort of block in the road.
If they allowed us to have multiple quest lines that tie together but have different starting points you could go anywhere and then be directed to where the story unfolds itself.
