I like the combat, but endgame is waiting for the latest Emergency Mission (raids, basically) to pop, otherwise you're idling in the lobby. Well, I guess there are other options right now, like playing in the casino, doing Ultra Hard free field explorations, solo content or trying to get a high score in Endless Quests. Localization isn't going to be that straightfoward, it involves setting up new infrastructure, accommodating clients of various platforms, not just a translation for quite literally everything. There may also be some internal changes made to accommodate the latter, like the UI elements. Translations aren't always 1:1 either, and it's also nearly a decade old game so there's a lot of stuff to cover. The business model may also change too, since these are usually designed around the region they were released for. Monster Hunter Frontier is another good example of all this, so much work would have to put into a western release which makes it no surprise that Capcom would never bring it over.

The fact that PSO2 is coming to the west at all is surprising enough.

pso2 casts are fleshies that couldn't handle their photons, so they had to be put into robo-bodies. They're also affected by poison, I'll have ya know.

Problem is that their t-atk is shiet -- the difference between a newearl and a male cast is pretty distant. Casts make great melee and ranged characters, but this only matters if you're a poopsock min-maxer (like me!)

This mostly influences how early you can equip end game shit -- a cast would require more levels, but that's mostly irrelevant if you bring mags into the equation. Still, that's like, a 5% damage loss? I think the ratio is 20 attack = 1% damage.

Sega shit like sonic and miku might have a chance to appear once before the game goes to shit. I wouldnt count on it though.

For equipping stuff? Nah, currently, the most demanding equips are 15*s with like, 900 offense requirement, and so long as you haven't fucked your mag, you should be able to equip them.

I invested like, 50 t-defense points into my mag so I could equip King Vardha units, but then they lowered the stat requirement for units. Eventually, they added the ability to delevel mags, but it costs 50 excubes : 1 unwanted stat point, and that's ridiculously fucking expensive.

Depends. The two traps are skill trees and mags. For skill trees, they hand out reset passes every time there's a class balance patch, and you get one per character, so you can bank those and use them as needed. For mags though its trickier. Depending on how bad you fuck it up, you might be spending a ton of in game currency to fix it. Usually if you fuck up that bad and its early on, people will tell you to just make a new character. The paid alternative is to just pay 3 real dollars for a new mag.

The Switch version is cloud bases in Japan. Does this mean they've actually put in the effort of porting it during translation,

Techer is a more supportive tech (Spell) user. They can increase the max HP of others with Deband Toughness (+25%, I believe), and decrease the damage they take by some % with Deband Cut. They can also buff attack, and crit rate with Shifta skills

They're desired, but when you have several techers in an MPA (Multi-party area) it of brings DPS down, because they're not that good offensively. You can make a wand-whacking build that's pretty fun, but it's really dependent on one specific weapon (Lavis Cannon, or Atra Ex Wand)

Force is a more offense-oriented spellcaster, focusing on damage, and "compound technics" (mixing two elements) more than supporting others. That being said, you'll probably want to sub as Techer anyways, because it has lots of nice stuff that boosts damage

Summoner is pretty good, but the flavour of the class is awful. Basically, instead of weapons, you get eggs as drops, and hatch a pet. You then feed your pet other eggs (SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST) to level them up, and increase their stats.

Pets can take damage, which knocks them out for a bit, so you'll have to change to another pet.

Does this one bring back the exact same type of auto-targeting PSO had for guns and techs? In all the games that came after that I've played, ranged attacks felt like complete shit to use. Narrow LoS cones, highly gimped range for the lock-on, lock on not really being a lock-on at all so you miss constantly, etc, it all made playing FO and RA completely miserable.

There's assist if you're not locked on, lockon range is pretty good though switching between target might be stressful if you're not used to it.
You can use TPS mode if you really want to.

Well, look on the bright side. At least compared to the GRORIOUS NIPPON servers, you'll be capable of talking with the other players, and ever if you out yourself as playing from out of region you won't get banned.

The gameplay is the traditional grinding for cool drops cycle, and the gacha is largely separate from that. Gacha shit can be bought from other players with in-game money if you don't want to do it yourelf.

This is the current price of it on the JP servers. It's basically chump change that you could get in a couple days of playing on a brand new character but probably because it uses the old outfit system and not the newer one that has 3 different types of outfit equipment slots. It shouldn't be expensive on NA if it ever comes out there.

The more you play the more likely you are to forget to tend to the infant and leave it to die in some manner, so you can think of it as a self-correcting problem.

Probably not but the game has thousands of cosmetic items that would never be seen on NA if they just did a 1:1 copy of JP servers. If they put everything ever available in gacha then the rates would be horrid due to the sheer amount of items and if they chose the dripfeed option, they would never catch up to the JP servers.

There's no way they're gonna do nothing about it since it's the game's main money maker.

F2P games generally don't require subscriptions to use. Path of Exile on PS4 requires it, though to go online for some gay reason.

I've been playing MHF for about a year and the game is more or less in its twilight years. Other than something of a news hiatus (which will hopefully get an update this 12th anniv or on Wednesday), a lot of older content is completely irrelevant to the point where you'll never have to actually gather for supplies or to make equipment. Zeniths are better than Gen/GU deviants but they're kind of getting tiresome and there's nothing to really justify the hunter power creep, and the Japanese are still grinding Raviente a lot. The grind scale for various aspects are kind of all over the place

Would prefer to see the monsters and or the content in general be adapted to mainline in some way, or even recycled into a standalone game. I can still enjoy the gameplay as-is now, but this kind of bugs me since there's practically like a lost age of this weird MH2 romhack that goes away as you escape high rank. On the other hand, what I've heard of the game's high rank and earlier G-Rank cycles makes some of the grind sound a lot more tedious than what's around now.

Not really, you have to git good to make Gunner powerful. A fresh Gunner with no idea what to do is actually probably one of the more useless classes. Hunter is one of the most useful ones to have as a subclass so it's a very safe choice regardless of where you go afterwards but you should choose whatever you think will be fun.
