Why do people get mad when someone pre orders a game?

I dont understand why preorder any game. there is never a shortage

So it's in my mailbox on release day.

i often preorder digitally, so i can pre load it before release

Is there even a reason why some people think they need to play a game day 1 on release? My backlog is full enough so it's never a big deal to wait a week or more for a new game.

Maybe they don't buy a lot of games or they go a game at a time, maybe he's been waiting for that game for a while, plenty of reasons user.

because all your friends are playing it day 1, and so are millions of other people. its a completely different experience playing something on day 1 compared to playing something a few weeks down the line

Because you could just pirate it and get it for FREE

It encourages poor business practices that further reduce the quality of the market. Rewarding developers for releasing frequently games that are broken on day one and require extensive patching to be made serviceable is not something that should be done. That is not to say that frequently the preordered game is just straight up shit and the revenue is generated not due to any of its inherent qualities but marketing programs.

tl;dr it enables those that shouldn't get money for making shit games, get money for making shit games and then make more shit games.

Because, in the past, one-third of full games used to be released for free, and the game itself would cost less than $20, but then plebs got into gaming with the introduction of consoles (which lowered the barrier of entry into the pastime), and now conditioning from Corporate Giants have programmed NPCs like you to stay plugged in to VIDEOGAME CULTURE, when really you were just supposed to play for an hour and then go outside.

You wouldn't have seen john romero sitting on his ass all day. Cliffy B? John Carmack? Gabe Newell?

Those guys ruined everything.

You guys ruined everything, then you came from other websites and ruined Yea Forums.

Now everything is bad.

hes a small guy

Get a job.

because, the more people that pay for a game before its finished, the more likely those games will be released in an unfinished state

I don’t care how someone spends their money, and there’s zero difference between spending the money now or the same later.
So it’s a bit retarded that you get more shit just for spending it earlier.

Yea Forums gets mad at everything, why do you even ask this.

I am an ancient one. And Old God. I know you think you're one of the originals, and so picking on people newer than you feels like your right. But you're nothing. No one. And to think anything else? Makes you worse than them. So sit down. Shut up. And try to play nice. Okay, tiger?

He is the one.

Because the retards who preordered will cry about the game being shit and how it was unavoidable. It's like leaving your car unlocked in a crappy neighborhood and then complaining it got stolen. They've asked for it. And everyone has to listen to that crap every fucking time. It's tiring.

.. foot tall

Consoles have been around longer than personal computers. Try again.

pre order exclusive content

Sometimes the pre-order is cheaper than day 1. But they dont tell you.

probably something to do with purchasing a license for something you can't even use yet

my money, my decision

Woah I literally would kill myself if I couldn‘t play the game with one gun having a golden skin, which will probably get released as regular DLC at some point!

You make terrible decisions mate.

Shoving money at a publisher before you even know what you're actually getting is just stupid. Pre-ordering should only exist because of product shortage, like say people pre-ordering Teslas because they only produce so many. It doesn't belong in videogames where you have no trouble just buying a game as soon as it comes out. The pittance "pre-order bonuses" are pathetic and it's even sadder people shove money at publishers for them.

fuck off casual. who the fuck doesn't want to play a new game they've been anticipating for months or years?

There were several times when I was a teenager, so I got into the habit of pre-ordering. I almost never do it now though.

because a ton of triple A games get released unfinished, rushed, or in a shitty state of being
this is defended by "they can just fix it with updates", something only possible on consoles in the last 12 years or so
the slope has been steep
by preordering, the incentive to make a good product is diminished because the money is already in their pocket

Casuals are the people pre-ordering and buying games day one most of the time. They don't even finish them, they just GET HYPE at latest release from big name and splurge money on it. You're the minority if you're actually a dedicated fan of a franchise on day one most of the time, calling other people casuals for waiting is stupid.

Pretty clearly a good enough game to buy. I did pre-order Killing Floor 2 though so I won't tell you I haven't regretted it. But this one's a pretty safe bet.

Because it damages consumer purchasing power and hurts the industry on the whole.

If you can't get a second opinion, or at the very least ask somebody outside of games journo about the quality of the game beforehand, then you're making an uninformed purchase. Both of these are impossible to accomplish before a release without leaks or insider info.

Seeing somebody buy something blindly, only to become mad at the quality later, makes me livid because it's a completely avoidable problem. Everybody deserves a good game for their money, but idiots keep kneecapping themselves because of hype or whatever.

They think you're only buying digital for some reason.

It's a social commodity. Thousands or millions of people are experiencing something at the same time without spoilers and bring it up as a talking point when discussing current events, there's also launch parties and gatherings among peers so there's an experience that's more than just the game itself. It also drives anticipated people who have an emotional attachment to the franchise, genre, or medium as a whole.

Because it encourages AAA rubbish like Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda (anyone remember the remote controlled nomad that didn’t, even include a copy of the game)

because retards have no self-control

But what's even cheaper is when you play some of the 500 games in your backlog for the next 2 years and then get the game 75% off.

Oh shit you're probably talking about consoles. Never mind.

Because it's not a wise decision. You don't know if the game will turn out to be shit or not.

literally the edgiest thing I have ever read, and I also read that shitty post that guy made.

I preordered the original Forza Horizon from my local gamestop so I knew I could get a copy. That's the only game I have ever preordered. Really dislike the practice of preordering digital content, or for any other reason than so retailers can now how many physical copies to request.
