that's not how you spell battlefield 3, user
2142 Titan was closer
>microstutters your server
>times out your client
Titans were some epic shit
still remember the first time I played this on a demo CD which just had the Gulf of Oman map and didn't know how to get into a vehicle so I just swam from the aircraft carrier to the shore
BOAT SPOTTED
I'm looking at 2142's code and bot support for titan was never in officially but it does look like they experimented with it at one point because there's partial AI code for controlling titan movement and turret operation.
Maybe they intended to have it but couldn't get it done in time? I'm decades late to the party and I'm not familiar with the mod scene but there isn't a single mod that does full titan support for single player.
I'm looking into what it'd take to build off the code that is in the game and get it working, if it's even possible. Right now I'm thinking the problem is that no one has ever really tried.
>so I just swam from the aircraft carrier to the shore
fpbp
As for bot movement on a moving arena, one solution I know of is to create a fake copy of the space's collision hull off in some far away place and simulate navigation and movement to that static hull remotely while visually, the action, is happening live on the field. Because physics and navigation are happening on the fake (real) copy that's static, it wouldn't interfere with the real (fake) titan moving over the field given it's just a projection of sorts.
No idea what it would take to do that or if the engine could even support that trick in any capacity.
The next problem is boarding and leaving the titan. You simulate physics and and collision to a static copy but the AI still has to know where the real (fake) titan is situated over the play area. I have no idea what tools they use to guide bots to their objectives.
Most kids won't understand it, and I say this with no nostalgia goggles whatsoever- Battlefield 2 was peak multiplayer FPS. You may not like that, but that's what it looked like. We're 15 years past this and 64 player servers barely work. Where are our 128 v 128 Battlefield? Why did they massacre our boy?
Yes
nope
nope
nope
Don't play with my heart like that, /g/entooman.
Don;t you get me hype like this not today
>manage to get into enemy base
>instead of stealing their jet, place an AT mine right in front of it
>run and wait
>guy spots empty jet, bolts to it and hops in
>explodes
>eventually jet respawns
>same guy runs over, looks under the landing gear for any mines
>hops in, starts to take off
>hits a second AT mine I placed a bit further down
Absolutely no guarantees. Very little work has been done here. But I'm interested, and hopefully others can get interested too some time.
Tons of people still play the Battlefield 2 demo online.
>battlefield 2 is 14 years old
but why?
I can't believe how well this garbage aged, to this day it still is one of the best games I have played.
>last big multiplayer FPS designed exclusively for PC
>every game after it got downgraded more and more for console-babbies
Fuck consoles, man. Anybody who didn't protest against the consolification about 15 years ago: you guys are the reason gaming sucks now.
2142 was absolutely the best BF game IMO. just the map design, the commander actions, the class unlocks, the shenanigans with the vehicles, etc etc.
I always think of it and Enemy Territory Quake Wars in the same thought, guess they're just really similar. God I miss those games.
Yes. Due to 2142 not getting the Titans to work properly, yes.
Wake Island 2007.
I would still be able to navigate that map even with my eyes closed.
BF Vietnam was peak and nothing ever came close after
Supreme taste user
God I miss my drone.
No, but it's still the best battlefield game.
the servers always seemed empty. did noone buy this game?
Is there a current solution to play online again? BF2Revive was a magical time
I have this urge to beat someone with a brick when they say Bad Company was the best one

Why did they ruin the music
was always servers when it came out. Pretty much when BF 2 came everyone migrated.
Daily reminder BF 2 was what EA used to test shit like charging people for maps (Booster Packs) and they went further in 2142 putting dynamic advertisements in the maps
when you heard this you knew you were getting a good map. When you heard the ching chong version you knew you were about to leave the server
>when you would listen to this over and over because it literally took 10 minutes to load the fucking map
WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO LOAD??!
>when you get the karkland
kek this. bf2 wake island was not fun imo
>that mid 2000's military aesthetic
Wake Island - home.
youtube.com
I built a PC with Raid 0 specifically to speed up my loading times in BF2. I could usually be one of the first 10-15 people on the map.
every ching chong map was too big for their own good and basically free kills for anyone good with jets. Wake Island the Chinks would basically lock you down on the battleship for 30 minutes
AH SHIT HERE WE GO AGAIN
Half-life 2
Holy shit, I remember I downloaded the demo back in the day, played for a couple weeks and then bought the game. Played a few matches in the full game and eventually went back to the demo and played that shit for 5 years straight, nearly every single day. Shit was comfy as fuck and I always played with the same group of people. Fuck man I miss those days.
Why don't we start a coalition and bitch like the WoW fags did until EA brings back BF 2?
lol dumbass
Play Project Reality
why do dogs not like phones
ENEMY BOAT SPOTTED
fuck no..
Operation Flaming Dart - Home
>be commander
>spam chat nonstop for hours
fun times
It had a awsome main theme t
zoomer franchise
>tfw never managed to get through that mission where you have to stop the train
underrated game though
We really should. Anyone know anything about that?
Why do modern games have suck quick TTK? In BF2 you really had to earn your kills since you had a large amount of health which made the fire fights better? Now in every game you die in 1 second and 9/10 times whoever shoots first wins.
>new patch is released
>excited because it usually is bundled with a new map as an apology for the patch
God where did it all go wrong?
Short attention spans
Same reason why the commander mode only appeared again in BF4, and why destructible command structures like radar sites and artillery guns never came back either.
*blocks your path*
youtu.be
damn i remember this loading screen and that song
>buy BF1942 collection pack at Comp USA for $20
>load into game after extensive patching
>playing as axis
>some ally fuck right away is harassing me with his plane and won't leave me alone
>he's coming right at me dedicated to killing me even if it means kamikaze
>pull out panzerfäust at last second by accident and blow him out of the sky seconds before he slammed into me
and thats how I fell in love with this series and was a devoted fan.......until consoles ruined it all
The one and only thing 2142 did wrong was start the trend of class consolidation and making them self sufficient.
>spamming nades in Karkand for hours as support and seeing people get absolutely assblasted
I hope you guys did this.
>tfw constantly had to divide my gaming time between BF 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004
The struggle was real.
If japan got some capable pilots in the start it was basically a US spawnrape match, f35s were shit compared to j10s.
I was the guy who got your capture point all the way in the back and you were the only guy on your team who noticed and tried to do anything and kept getting buttfucked by me
I was the transport heli guy
BF2 ha the best feeling chopper flight model, shit had actual weight instead of feeling like RC models
Wasn't it that the special unlock medic gun was objectively the best gun in the game and made the medic the best class?
There was that one MEC map that had low bridges at their spawn and it literally made no sense and was dangerous as fuck to fly under them but I did it every time with a loaded chopper
>20 years later knife is still nerfed from all the butthurt
youtube.com
I remember the #1 guy in the entire game had a macro and just prone hopped all over
daily reminder that battlefield v is fun
>playing hide and seek 1v1 match around silos and warehouses around last point
Good times, still remember raging after dying to claymore or some shit.
>those frontal dolphin dives
ah man those were the days, the salt, the tears, the absolute butthurt
>playing modded BF2 with a bro
>the two of us vs like 30 bots
That was some good shit.
I was the guy who would sit in the tank all game, pick a tricky vantage point and just shell the other team for 20 minutes
youtube.com
*crack* sip
Yes, g36e or something. That burst was insanely overpowered in terms of accuracy.
>spams infinite grenades
>attrocious hitbox
>anything other than infrantry only is fucking retarded. Jet planes are broken as fuck.
I played this so much back in the day but god damn this fucking nonsense. The grenade spam was common in those days, CoD did it too. BUT WHY? It's extremely retarded.
It seriously made me stop playing because how fucking bullshit it was.
Only anger, no fun
I think to stop this I just played as Commander so I could call a UAV on a whim at my position
it was actually almost always better to crouch since the dive only extended the length of the knife but left you stuck on the ground for half a second.
it made shitters angry because they would always aim where you used to be instead of on the path downwards where logically the hitbox would be and so they were so fucking about it that they completely disabled going prone for the entire bad company series for years afterwards.
It was annoying because the moment you captured the enemies last point, all you heard was them respawning constantly and the ching song of grenades beingprimes
what? BF2 loaded so much faster than 1942. You just had shitty HDD or RAM.
>The times the titan pilots actually move the Titans closer to each other so the guns underneath bombard the cap points and people are launching over to the enemy titan constantly
>Those tight corridor fire fights
Timesplitters?
yup
>and why destructible command structures like radar sites and artillery guns never came back either.
God that shit is how I made my living.
someone wanna tell me why there was puffs of white smoke coming out of people instead of red?
>BF 1942
>nice drivable ships
>holy shit is it wonky as fuck for anyone on top of it
>BF Vietnam and 2 they didn't even bother
>BF 2142 of shit drivable spaceships wtf....it's still wonky
How come they couldn't fix this?
Its been years so I dont remember it very well but I do remember my server eventually devolving into a dolphin diving fest, like every close quarters and sometimes even medium range encounters was just people spamming that shit. I do remember going prone though.
All I remember about Titan gameplay was it was literally one hallway
If you could get past that (which was hard AF) then you automatically win.
playing this game at home against bots was my life
>putting years of time and effort into something which takes a few seconds, when it isn't even realistic
Such is the life of high TTK fags
if you meant that rolling shit yeah sure but only shitters did that
it was only effective on stupid people who didnt know to aim on the lower part of the hitbox.
once you figured that out, it was free kills where the stupid idiot who dove locked themselves into a position over the maneuverability of being able to sprint and adada
I couldnt even get this shit to run when I was a kid since I fucked up the account creation process somehow. Had to play with the bots.
ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE ENEMY UNITS ON THE MOVE
>get into the walker
>accidentally step on something awkwardly
>now stuck in that weird glitch where the walker won't stop moving and your aim was fucked and you had to get out to fix it
How was this never fixed?
nah
medic patch tf2 was the best
I think Quake 3 was peak FPS. Still holds up, gameplay was simple with a high skill ceiling. Jump, strafe, crouch & shoot is all you needed.
Remember Team Fortress Classic.
>EXCUSE ME. I'M IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION
I mean like this youtube.com
I remember a girl in highschool sucking my dick as I played BF2 on the PC. Shit was so cash.
Why can't they just make a game like this again, easy to learn, hard to master competitive games.
Sniping was really cool. Come to think of it, I think the red dot and hold + release to fire was a neat mechanic.
They did it's called fortnite.
>vanilla Q3A
>not CPMA
stop trying to fit in zoomer
everything was neat
>conc jumping
>the shit you could do with the engineer to lock people in spawns
>demoman bomb that kills everyone within 500 feet
>rocket jumping
>getting gud with the spy and blending in
Only one that sucked ass was pyro.
I remember sucking some user's dick while dressed up like a girl as he was playing videogames in highschool.
What ever happened to that free game where you could assassinate JFK? It has been completely removed from the internet.
I preferred OSP 1v1, but CPMA is ok if you like rocket jumping everywhere and not timing items.
You’re weird
I thought you meant when they did this stuff
youtu.be
Based. 2142 was the best multiplayer FPS of all time.
This is why bf2 was garbage after it being new.
JFK Reloaded, here ya go buddy
fileplanet.com
it was peak "modern" battlefield
Soulless
Vehicle physics are hard, its whwhy helicopters feel better in gta3 than in gta 5
1942 and Vietnam are better but 2 is still good. 2142 was the last good one. Bc1 is where it really started to go downhill.
Anyway peak fps is duke3d/seriousserioussseriousserioussam/ut99/q3a
bf2 was a broken clusterfuck
the vehicles were so broken you had to play on infantry servers
where the garbage netcode and the trash engine combined into one huge shitpile
Why? Because learning movement techniques was too hard for your underage brain at the time? Remember, movement was a huge deal back in the arena shooter days, specially with unreal and quake. That only changed with the casual shitfest that was counter strike, the call of duty of its day. Movement in bf2 added a high skill ceiling to infantry combat that forced shitters to either adapt or get fucked.
This post is the epitome of "they hated him because he spoke the truth"
That's not 2142
bf3 was console trash
based pod rammer
>32 players
nope
fuck that shit just downloaded BF hub and will install BF2
BF2hub is still populated. Wish I could say the same for 2142.
If they won't remake 2142 I'll be mad
No.
Peak fps was Doom.
Original Doom.
If you disagree with this, you're objectively wrong, have shit taste, and you're probably underage.
BF2142 WITH GAY LESBIAN TRANSEXUAL NIGGER MEN ECKS DEEEEEE
