Would recommend you get pic related and a Samsung 860 EVO hook up the adapter to the EVO and use the migration software from Samsung to copy the HDD to the SSD. I can not tell you man after the 2 hours of a full copy and putting it into my hardrive bay connected. It was so quick that i was at the login screen in 26 seconds and the home screen loaded in 16 seconds or less. It was such a dramatic shift that it only takes a minute or less to get everything up and running. Files no longer stutter and at the same time everything loads blazing fast. I highly recommend the SSD upgrade to anyone at this point.

they're years behind nvidia in efficiency and architecture. as a recent example we can take a look at their upcoming navi architecture. we know the best card they'll offer is around ~2070 performance which sounds impressive and makes them seem competitive till you realise the 2070 is still on what is essentially 16nm and even on the bigger process it's using less power than that amd competitor card which is on the latest cutting edge 7nm manufacturing process. the 2070 also has a bunch of extra shit like RT cores but even the it still uses less power. keeping that all in mind imagine how far ahead nvidia will be when they release their own 7nm cards. they'll completely slaughter amd. that's why a lot of people aren't happy with navi even though it actually sounds good.

Only because they lack support for ROMs, video editing etc. Video editors have CUDA support for your Nvidia card to make it easier and unironically on emulators like CEMU and RPCS3 AMD does not do a good job and Nvidia does. I will say on the CPU end they are finally putting up an effort though and it is worth looking into.

It is time to say goodbye to my old friend the 970 and upgrade. I will miss it. Best cost/benefit I've ever gotten out of a graphics card.

ryzen 1600 had loads of problems the latest revisions don't have including shit inter-core latency and low clocks. the 2000 series alleviated those problems slightly with architectural optimisations which reduced the latency and allowed for ~300mhz higher clocks. the new ryzen should completely eliminate those problems though. we're looking at potentially 5ghz overclocks. that's over 1ghz compared to ryzen 1600 and the 20% higher IPC will allow for massively better performance.

General rule of thumb is that the first numbers in the processor/GPU spec denote type and generation and the following numbers denote tier, letters appended to the end of the product number describe special features.

For example, Intel i5-6600K

Intel is the manufacturer, it is an i5 which (used to) means it has 4 cores and no hyperthreading, it's a 6th generation processor which means it uses the Skylake micro-architecture and a 600 model, putting it above the 6500 and 6400 in performance. The K on the end means the processor has an unlocked multiplier and can be overclocked if you have a compatible motherboard.

799 MHz is standard for DD3, your speed will actually be 2000 MHz, but you can check by opening task manager and look at your Memory speed

i5 might just manage it but make sure you've overclocked that shit to the max. dual cores are basically dead nowadays because more and more games are being optimised for multi threaded processors. it'll get even worse next gen because of the powerful ryzen processors in the consoles.

I used 4x4 GB of the same RAM clocked at 1600Mhz too.
2 normal sticks, 2 low profile.
The two LP sticks still work fine but the two normal Vengence sticks with the big coolers gave me problems even at 1600Mhz and just weren't stable.

So recently I replaced them with 2 G.Skill SNIPER sticks I got for really cheap that are advertised as 1866Mhz sticks and that combo at least runs stable.

you should have changed your ram voltage to 1.65v as all ddr3 can run stable at that voltage but it also allows for more stable clocks. that's what i did. the msi motherboard comes with a feature called "memory try it!" and you can choose a whole range of memory frequency presets. whatever you select on there it automatically clocks the ram up to 1.65v anyway. i've been running this stable 2133 mhz for years now.

it is my modern standards no matter how anyone twists it. hexacors are the current sweetspot. i also own assassins creed origins and that absolutely rapes my cpu in towns even at medium settings. quad cores are barely cutting it now.

Only thing to worry about is your RAM which is dirt cheap to upgrade. Otherwise, I would imagine 1060s and GPUs around it will be good for 1080p. It's the most popular GPU on the market similar to the 970 was when Witcher 3 came out.

Just look for motherboards using the same socket as your processor. Unless you've got an ancient CPU that doesn't support it there should be mobos out there that can handle 32-64gb of ram for whatever socket your CPU is.

In my opinion they're not worth it. Raytracing cuts your fps in half anyway, it does look good yeah, but the performance hit is just too big.
I would wait for the RTX 3000 whatever series, at least they will bring legit performance improvements.

Yes, it's probably not going to be much different from what we already see, but at least devs will put some effort on it for marketing purposes. BF5 raytracing is a joke for example because the devs don't really care about the PC market.

because you can get these at a 3rd of the price of an actual i7 and the performance is pretty minimal stock vs stock and it's a cheap upgrade to an old pc (sub-$100) without having to spend $300 on a whole new mobo, cpu, ram or one of the overpriced i7s of the same gen which can go for around $150
