Blender is open. I need an OC design for a top-down dungeon crawler I'm gonna make (for practice)
Post your vidya OCs in this thread.
Blender is open. I need an OC design for a top-down dungeon crawler I'm gonna make (for practice)
Lol blender.
Kindergarten is that way ->
one sec OP
blender is a fine 3d modeling app.
this shit was from 2013 on RPG Maker and I lost the files after I lost my old laptop
Basically amazon but instead you order heros for quests
here you go OP his name is Major Maggot
Read the Gunslinger by Steven King and make a Dungeon Crawler out of that.
SKELEGUN
Are you an Autodesk shill?
2.80+ is bretty good if you know what you're fucking doing.
I do still consider it the jack of all trades though because the tools of the base package still suck ass.
You literally have never done serious modelling for a game, have you?
I wanted maybe a more girly character, maybe if I can make the squid knight ~~sexy~~cute somehow...
Haha this is very cool. Totally reminds me of Worms.
My OC. Do whatever you like with my wife, goodguy or badguy is ok.
After using Blender for 6 years, I know what the fuck I am doing. I have all my egnine / shader mods, I would way prefer Blender than Maya or 3dsMax
Post her body user. I wanna see what she wears.
All will be Adobe.
All will be Autodesk.
Rex Machina, cybernetic detective.
Please don't bully me I'm well aware my art skills are shit.
Blender is shit though, no-one uses it professionally, no-one will ever use it professionally, it doesn't have anywhere near the tools it needs to be useful to anyone but beta orbiters and Brazilians.
Hold on there Mr. Autodesk shill.
factorio.com
Didn't know he used blender, neat.
>2.78
Get with the time, grandpa.
>indie
>professional
Those are just a bunch of eastern europeans and some australian working out of a house.
>let me just move the goalposts a little
That's not moving the goalposts.
faggot
artstation.com
You underestimate its power.
It absolutely is. The original claim was that no one uses Blender professionally. Factorio is a professionally developed game. If that doesn't count somehow you are moving the goalposts.
Looks like fanwork he made while at Fromsoft, there's no way any development studio one would consider professional would use blunder in their production pipeline. It's so bad that SFM porn is still preferable over blender porn.
Factorio is not professionally developed.
>factorio.com
A lot of people use it professionally but not in any big AAA game studio or Pixar. Plenty of professional freelance artists use Blender though, and there is nothing wrong with it if you know how to use it properly.
>Factorio is not professionally developed

Seems to make an awful lot of money for something non-professional.
SFM is just faster, Blender pron is becoming more and more prevelant as GPUs get better and better and Cycles is a real option for fully rendered animations. Blender porn looks fucking beautiful also.
>power.
potato kniches
What do the new versions add? Maybe it's worth my time, probably not.
>2013

>unless it's a AAA studio it's not professional
Also, Next Gen, a feature-length film, was produced with blender as its main tool. Artists employed at mayor companies all around the world use it; hell, here's a half hour speech by one of them youtube.com
Well Blender has only gotten better since then.
What about it?
youtu.be
I take it back this looks very polished and very cool the graphic additions to the edit tools seems a bit obnoxious but it gives it a really polished look. I might stick with 2.7 since I don't wanna get used to a new UI, but I will upgrade when I have to reinstall.
Don't switch to 2.8 yet, many addons don't work properly. Also, they keep changing the UI and breaking shit every other day with their Nightly releases.
Does Filmic work? I won't switch to anythign until I know I'm getting Filmic. Literally, get a $200 rendering engine for free.
What exactly are you looking for? Western/Eastern inspired? Something badass? Male? Female?
What's the theme of your game?
The view transform? It's now the default
You mean the tonemapping?
Female. No theme yet. Wanted to do cartoon medieval probably, but if there is a really good character I'd rather start with that since this is just for practice.
pls include this op ill be happy
Color management. I installed a filmic mod for the colour management to replace sRGB, improved my renders from semi-realistic to physically based.
Cool! Sword!!
how can you have enough creativity to begin making a dungeon crawler yet not think of your own designs
Yeah, that's been supported for a while. The settings are under scene->color management, using cycles of course.
Same play for Eevee too if that's your thing.
I actually just checked, the color management options don't change between rendering engines, which makes sense considering it's really just post-processing.
damn you drew these yourself?
these are nice
What purpose do people like you have white knighting for a massive corporation that charges millions in licensing fees for a bloated, overhyped program? Blender finally being good enough for industry quality work threatens you how?
>but not in any big AAA game studio
so you'll never be able to make amazing games like Fallout 76 or Anthem with Blender
damn
Well, I probably can't help but have this tomboy. Good luck, hope the practice helps you learn something.
This actually looks fucking incredible, especially all the viewport changes. However I've been reading that a lot of my addons haven't been exported to 2.8 yet (I need Retopoflow in particular). Some are being worked on but some are pretty much dead so there's no chance they'll be ported over so I'll need to find a replacement.
Is there a way to install 2.8 alongside 2.79 or will a new installation override the first?
No but you have to download a seperate mod for it, it doesn't come with Filmic, you have to download it yourself.
Cute, tomboys are god's gift to mankind
builder.blender.org
No installer since they're Nightly releases, they're just compressed archives, which means you can extract them anywhere.
Nice. I love darksin tomboys. Darksin tomboy romance mangas are heaven.
i think it's pretty good just a little clunky to get used to
Noob at rendering here, I've only ever rendered stuff in Maya, and I used V-ray and Arnold. Is the stuff you're talking about specific Filmic/Eevee materials you can apply to get a better look than just using default blender materials? Or does blender not work that way?
Zremesher and Zbrush quality dynamesh when lads
make a fake Pokemon and post it to /vp/
There are indeed engine-specific materials. Blender internal uses a very limited set, Cycles is the one everyone uses, and Eevee uses the same as cycles. You can even use Pixar's Renderman if you know how their materials work.
However, Filmic is not a material set, but rather an OpenColorIO configuration: it essentially changes the way colors and light are processed, and produces better-looking images as a result.
Cycles. Not sure what Eevee is, but it seems like it's the replacement (finally) for Blender internal. Filmic is not a mod for the rendering engine, but a colour management workspace thing(not actually 100% sure what it is). Essentially it is a decoder for the raw data that comes out of Blender's rendering engine, then converts that raw data to a viewable image format. For a long time (since the 90s) everything has used sRGB, and it's good enough for a lot of things, but it's not good enough for realistic phyiscally based renders. because when you are raytracing, everything needs a fuckton of light otherwise it wont be realistic, you need a colour workspace that isn't designed for 90s jpeg encoding. here comes filmic, in short filmic let's you set the lightness or darkness of a render, and it is much MUCH less sensetive to light, so you can have a realistic amount of light in your scene without your entire screen being white when it's rendered. Stops everything from looking like plastic essentially. Absolute essential for anybody working in Cycles, ever, doesn't matter what you're doing.
Do you draw pr0n
Interesting. I haven't gotten much into rendering but I'll definitely keep this in mind if I want to produce good renders. There's just so much to learn when it comes to 3d.
It comes with it by default since at least 2.79.
Yes.
I used to run a CYOA quest.
Yes, 6 years in of casually watchign tutorials and making shit when I'm bored and I'm still a massive fucking noob. There is a reason you take school to get good at this shit. If you wanna truly get good on your own, you have to force yourself to do it, force yourself to improve at whatever cost, otherwise it takes too fucking long to go through an artist's natural journey to mastery, because by the time you get there, your craft will be obsolete and nobody will want to lay your game or see your art.
Used to.
That's really fucking nice. I remember discovering it from an Andrew Price video a few years ago and my mind was fucking blown. It was like all those "one easy step to instantly improve your renders" clickbait videos finally paid off, and I found the one easy step to realism.
Damn I'm on 2.77. I guess I should just update to the latest stable release (2.79b?)and start making use of it. I hope none of my shit breaks
Tomboyish mechanists are my fetish. Good shit user.
I like the look of this character, the steampunk style clothing. I feel like this would be a great character if she looked more like a tinkerer and had some sort of recognizable unique piece of clothing like the shorts or the helmet having something very over the top about them. Very cool design, and you are really good at anatomy, definitely could be a professional mangaka.
Oh yes. Give me a tomboy mechanic, builder, tinkerer, technician with a flat chest, short hair, and nothing but shorts, boots, and an apron on.
You guys have like a blog or anything similar?
You can also just download it separately like I did (I'm on 2.78), but that's probably more difficult, the advantage is you retain your user settings if you haven't properly saved a profile for them.
>apron on
My brother of another mother. An apron/overall and nothing else is literal godly perfection.
I don't.
I dump all my stuff here on this site.
It's all just for fun, we can even start a new game right now if we were on /qst/.
amen brotha
let's make a game, I'll make the sound track and sound effects, and can probably help with level design and story (I write DnD modules regularly). I can also probably figure out how to do some basic coding, I've done programming before in Java but I fucking hated it cuz I was bad at it, and it wasn't like a beginner class where you have a specific problem to solve. They tried getting me to write PID loops and I fucking dipped.
Nope. I just casually scribble on paper and i'm afraid of digital. Also I'm not nearly good enough to have a blog, yet.
Draw me character references so i can put them in blender.
(I tried googling various ways to say ref sheet and every time I looked it up I'd get shitloads of furry art, even if I googled ref sheet template, so no example image)
Wait wait wait, user stop, you're getting ahead of yourself.
The CYOA thing was just for fun and I only used a video game aesthetic for the quest so it's easier.
It isn't actually a game.
Use "turntable"
I just saved my userprefs and reloaded them in 2.79. Things are working just fine except for having to change left/right click and horizontal dolly zoom over vertical which for some reason didn't get saved in the userprefs. Only downside is I gotta reinstall my addons, but I saved the zips so it's only a few clicks. Filmic looks fucking great, I didn't expect to get such good advice from a random Yea Forums thread. Thanks to all the anons here for the info.
Glad to help anytime. Glad you figured it out also, it really is an absolute life-changer compared to sRGB.
You get what I mean when I say it stops your renders from looking like plastic.
Yeah it's a huge difference, even when using default blender lights I use for working instead of emission shaders on planes for when I set up a lit scene. It's literally a "click this option and everything looks 10x better" button.
These are god tier dude. Love them.
Steal some creature designs from the Cambrian fauna from the burgess shale.
>no-one will ever use it professionally
Stopped reading right there. people ARE already using it professionally.
Just kys
Taking a lot longer then it should
Wait a sec, i thought this was to post general stuff related to games that was created by us? Is it just character designs? Well, then sorry for posting that
That "realistic" lighting completely stops at the window. Why the hell is the window a white block, the eye doesn't work that way. And the only thing I can think of why they did that, is that they thought with the logic of a camera.
>the eye doesn't work that way
You fucking retard.
I'm probably not gonna use this or even make a game so go nuts
I unironically love this design. Have u drawn some other cool characters in this style?
But will she upgrade my heat sheild?
unused design for a failed platformer I was working on
Why fear digital? Litteraly any mistake you make can be undone, and being able to draw on multiple layers is great
and his cute gf
Look at your window, is it a retina burning white block? Fucking gamer brainlet.
>tfw immediately thought of her as well
My man.
>have baby together
>it comes out orange
>hurr durr my eyes
Retards like you never understand this. It's not simulating an eye you subhuman fuck, it's simulating a camera and film.
I took Maya for class that switched from Blender.
Not him but can you tell me if there's any significant difference between the two?
Take my idea for a LttP rando sprite: Teddy Bear. Inspired by some picture of a lil Teddy Bear on a bed with a sword and shield fighting a nightmarish monster emerging from the closet
That's beyond retarded, but what you say aligns perfectly with you nu male faggots who want games to be a cinematic experience. Remove yourself from the gene pool.
Reminder that this person is allowed to vote.
>the eye doesn't work that way
good thing 3d cameras aren't meant to simulate an eye
The sad thing about this troll is that every troll has some loose logic behind it. Somebody had to manually think of this concept. Somebody out there has a brain retarded enough that it is possible to, if even briefly, and controlled at that, but still possible to think this string of thoughts.
not him but there is none if you aren't hyper-professional Pixar AAA Dice EA Disney.
Inspector Lupin, reporting for duty!
