why do people consider this shit to be better than Mario 64?

For me, it's the presentation and visuals. Mario is a launch 64 title and while it's not horrible or bad, it's a great game, it's just that Banjo-Kazooie took that concept and made it its own. Its main protagonists are unique and to this day still unique among video game protagonists. There's a reason it rivaled Mario 64 and even Ocarina of Time and in the case of Tooie, Majora.

Because it has more than 0 good levels in it and actually requires you to use your character's moves, so it doesn't take take people 20 years to discover the playable character has a slide kick
